Product Descriptions for Localized eCommerce Store
-
Hi,
We currently have an eCommerce store that only sells in one country. We are going to open separate stores that will target different countries.
As far as product descriptions go my initial plan was to use the same descriptions but then block product pages from being indexed. However this has also ended up blocking us from being able to use Google's product listing ads (it rejects the data feed due to not being able to index the products).
Is there a way to copy the descriptions and avoid a delicate content issues without blocking our product pages from being indexed?
Thanks for your help!

I presume the other countries are using the same language--if that's the case, then the next question is: is anything on the page going to be different for countries #2, #3, etc.?
If the answer is "no", then you can use rel=canonical on the pages for countries #2, #3, etc. pointing back at the version at your site for country #1.
If the answer is "yes" (e.g. the price is different, or the currency is different, or shipping price shown is different, etc.), then set the rel=canonical to point to the URL for the current country's page.
In both cases, you'll want to use rel="alternate" hreflang= tags for ALL of the countries....on ALL of the pages. The idea here is that you're telling Google, on every page, what the other countries' versions of the pages are. Included in that is the page for the country you're looking at now. So, let's say you had www.bananas.com and also a version of the site in the United Arab Emirates, www.bananas.com.ae. You've got pages www.bananas.com/peel.php and www.bananas.com.ae/peel.php. BOTH of these pages would have:

Moving from no follow to follow links on our eCommerce site
Hi everyone, I recently taken on an SEO eCommerce account and found that all the footer links have a no follow attribute. I've requested that the no follow tags be removed as the pages are quite valuable (about us, finance, recycling, help centre etc). I've been asked what the risks are and all I can think of is a slightly increased number of pages for Google to Crawl. Are there any other risks you can think of? Does anyone have experience around making this type of change? For benefits, I believe that it will make our content look more trustworthy to Google and help with traffic through to those pages in the SERPs. Any other pros you can think of will be a great help.

But after Google crawl the Meta Titles and Descriptions shown by Google are something different that are not found in Content. Even i verified the Cached version of the website and gone through Source code that crawled at that moment. the meta title which i have written is present there. Apart from this, the same URL's are displaying perfect meta titles and descriptions which i wrote in Yahoo and Bing Search Engines. Can anyone explain me how to resolve this issue. Website URL: thenewyou (dot) in Regards,

Local City Pages
Anyone have any input on the tactics being used for a national company trying to target local city pages. For instance, you might be a national printing company and you are trying to compete against local printers in cities by creating a specific page for that city + print keywords.

Repetition of Product Names considered Spamming?
We have long lists of products are displayed on individual web pages ... with the only variations being in product dimensions and prices. Could the Search Engines consider these lengthy lists of products for sale to be attempted spamming efforts? (Example: http://www.just-insulation.com/overview_of_celotex_product_buy_cheapest.html) Thank you.

Should I include A Description Tag for an article page
Hi, I am wondering if i should include a description tag for an article page where the news on that page will change around five times a day. I am not sure if to fill a description in for local news or to leave it blank so the search engines pick up the latest local news and then the next day they show the latest local news again in the search engines instead of having a static description of the news page. any help would be great

Meta description showing in source code but not being detected by SEO Moz or other tools?
Hello fellow SEO enthusiasts, Re www.appetise.com Our developers have added a meta description and I can see it when I right click on pages to 'view source' as follows : Example : BUT - using the on page seo assessment tool on SEO Moz (and also using other tools which assess title, description and keyword optimisation) - they are telling us that the meta description is not present. Please could someone suggest why? If we can get the meta description picked up - we will reach A Grade for our core pages! And this will make us feel good - and hopefully shine through in our results :-). Any help greatly appreciated. Server located in Canada but site is for local business in Pennsylvania
My friend's website is for a local business in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania but the MOZbar shows that his server is located in Canada. Will this be detrimental to his SERP rankings? The site was just launched a week ago. I saw various opinions in other forums and I could not find similar questions in this forum. Thanks in advance. -Dan
