Is it possible to get high page rank without backlinks?
-
Today while looking for expired domains i found many high pr domains, checked for fake pr found they are valid but there were zero backlinks pointing to them.Is this possible?
-
Actually, you are correct. Google's PageRank algorithm has always been all about links. Check it -
PageRank works by counting the number and quality of links to a page to determine a rough estimate of how important the website is. The underlying assumption is that more important websites are likely to receive more links from other websites.
More on http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/PageRank.
This being said, Google's toolbar PR is not nearly as influential as a ranking factor as it has been in years past.

Yes, it is rare, but possible. Given how many things make up the alogorithm, I'm sure there are many things at play that affect this, some of which have already been mentioned here:
1. content
2.relevance
3.design
4.visitors
5.backlinks -
I googled and found this statement on joomla forum " the site Page Rank it's a combination of: content, relevance, design, visitors and backlink so the back links is the last. I have site with no backlink and have PR3."
-
Not without going searching again, but it was only incidental and had no need to undertake this for many months now. It wasn't something I went looking for.
-
Do you have any examples of this Andy? I was under the impression that backlinks are exactly what gave you pagerank. I would assume those with higher PR you saw just had links that whatever indexing agent like OSE did not see, but Google did, and the ones with loads of backlinks were simply low quality or there were lots of links on the particular page.

Hi,
Yes, this is very possible. Page Rank doesn't just focus on backlinks, but many other factors as well. I have seen sites that have a PR of 4-5 and not a single backlink, but amazing content - I have seen sites that have a PR of 1-2 and loads of backlinks.
This is more common that you might realise.

Should I worry about backlinks like this?
So I am going through my backlink profile and of course those random backlinks popup from spammy type sites like this which are useless. Should I worry about links that come from sites like these? http://ppfinder.com/camy/shelvy

Should I get comment removed?
I left a comment on a site's blog post maybe 2 months or so ago. Yes, that blog has DoFollow comments on. It turns out that site uses one of those sidebar featured comment widgets, and has a crazy amount of duplicate pages due to an unruly wordpress install, pagination and attachments indexed. Well, I checked my google analytics recently and it shows that I'm getting 652 links from that site. Ahh.. Should I ask the blogger to remove my comment? Or should I let it go, and wait until google reindexes that site? My links don't technically show on all those pages anymore because since that time, the blogger has gotten more comments that are now featured instead of mine.

Backlinks through dofollow commenting
I'm interested in building backlinks to my photography business site by leaving good, engaging comments on other photographers' DoFollow blogs. Is this a good idea? Is it worth the effort? Through a little research, I've managed to locate more than 40 dofollow photographer blogs that have a domain authority of 35+. The idea is to take an hour or so a week to leave 10-20 comments on their blog posts. Would you consider this a good strategy? I rank on the first and second page of most of my keywords that I'm working on, but I want to rank 1st or 2nd on them. I used the keyword finder tool on google adwords to find the keywords that are the most searched for in my area. Surprisingly the competition is not large, so I'm fairly comfident I can get there. I've already optimized my site substantially and I'm looking into link building. Thoughts?

How to rank for many keywords
OK, so I've been diving into SEO pretty hard lately and learning everything I can. Something I'm not quite understanding is how to rank for a lot of different keywords. We're in the proofreading and editing space which can be broken down into many categories: general proofreading & editing essay editing book editing etc. If I consider the "essay editing" category, the main keyword I want to target is, in fact, "essay editing". However, I'd also want to target: essay editing service, edit my essay, fix my essay, revise my essay, etc. Basically, a lot of modifiers. I can easily target our main page for essay editing and essay editing service keywords, but how do I start ranking for those longer tail keywords? Is it simply building content that includes them? Is it getting links utilizing anchor text? Or is there something I'm missing? I don't see the point in building separate service pages for those other keywords; I think that's a waste and bad site architecture practices. I'm just looking for my "aha" moment on these longer-tail rankings. Thanks!

Do Local Listings like Yellow Pages and yelp count for backlinks??
I am wondering if adding your company with url on a local listing like yellowpages.com, yelp.com, merchantCircle.com, etc. actually counts as a "backlink"? I'm thinking it is not considered a link because I have never seen one listing in Open site explorer, either that, or it is considered a backlink, just not one important enough for open site explorer to show it. Does anyone know for sure??
