Domain name with a single digit
-
I have an existing campervan hire website which is being redesigned, rebranded and renamed (including the domain).
The website allows businesses and owners to list campervans for rent to customers. There are a huge amount of campervan hire companies and so not many relevant domain names. Also many are for sale as expensive premium domains.
We want something different that will standout. We're thinking of https//:camper7.com as its short and we think it would work.
Is it best to avoid using a single digit in a domain if it isnt a 2 or 4 or does it not matter if we think it could work as it would stand out? Any help or advice would be appreciated.
thanks
James

Register Camper1.com, to let your customers know you are the best!!!
No but seriously, think about what is going to stand out for branding, and help you in the long run. If you are local, perhaps a keyword driven domain mixed with your company name would work out better? Something like:
COMPANYNAMECampervanrental.com (BigJoescampervanrental.com)
or
LOCATIONvanrental.com (stlouiscampervanrental.com)I dont think the numbers hurt you in any way, but I cant see how it would be doing you any favors either. If you decided to do the ones you mentioned, (camper2hire or campers4u) I could see it being useful from a branding standpoint.

I personally don't believe numbers in the domain make any difference, but dashes might. This is due to more spammy domains having long dashed list of keywords in them.
Take a look at this piece on Moz, at the bottom you can see the consensus about "domain has numbers". Virtually non existent effect observed: http://moz.com/search-ranking-factors

Hi Martijn
thanks for your response. I'm just guessing that 2 or 4 would be useful numbers in a domain if used as camper2hire or campers4u for example, that's all. I wanted to go with camoer7 but have read lots of blogs suggesting that you should avoid using numbers so I wanted some advice.
Thanks again. James

Just curious, why you think a 2 or 4 in the name would work better than a 7? I've worked for companies with the silliest domain names and some great ones for branding. They both have their benefits but in the end it's still about the same thing: on what level can you do great marketing for them. If you're good you can rank any domain name in my opinion.

Cross Domain Rel Canonical for Affiliates?
Hi We use the Cross Domain Rel Canonical for duplicate content between our own websites, but what about affiliates sites who want our XML feed, (descriptions of our products). We don´t mind being credited but would this present a danger for us? Who is controlling the use of that cross domain rel canonical, us in our feed or them? Is there another way around it?

Redirecting multiple websites to a single website
I've been trying to run several truck accessory affiliate websites for a quite a while now. I've recently decided to combine all of my affiliate websites into a single community website. This way I'll be able to focus all my energy and link building into a single place and build up a single brand. My question is, how many websites do I try to redirect to the new website at a time? Do I need to spread this out? Or is it ok if I move all of my content and websites at a single time? I have around 30 websites that I could move to this new domain. Thanks! Andy

Recovery during domain migration
On average, how long does it takes to recover 80% of the rankings if two high authority domains are combined without chaging any content? I totally understand that each domain is different and search engines can treat them differently but if all the steps are followed to the T what are the chances?
