How to handle New Page/post with site map
-
Hi,
I've created and submitted to google (through webmaster tool) a site map with the WP plugin XML google maps.
Now I've created new pages and posts. My question is: do i have to recreate and re submit another site map to google or can i just submit to google the new pages and posts with the option 'FETCH AS GOOGLE' ?
Tx so much in advance.
-
OK, tx for the advice.
About sitemaps, If i want my images appear in google, do I have to leave unceked the option of media in YOAST?
On this moz article they suggest to exclude media from sitempas:
http://moz.com/blog/setup-wordpress-for-seo-success
Whats your opinion suggestion about this and other xml settings?
-
Yes that is exactly what I would do, just remove the URL from Google Webmaster Tools and add the new URL if the new sitemap is ready via Yoast.
-
So, if now I have created and submitted a sitemap to google webmaster with XML sitemap plugin, what should I do?
Can I deactivate and uninstall the XML sitemap plugin and resubmit a sitemap to google done with YOAST?
What you suggest is best at this point?
-
Always go with Yoast, it's the most used SEO plugin for WordPress.
-
Tx so much guys.
Another doubt I have: if I'm running and using the XML sitemap plugin, do I have to disable/uncheck the YOAST sitemap option or Can I leave it on? Also what would you suggest is better to use for sitemaps, XML Sitemap or YOAST?
-
Hi,
As mentioned above, you can do both. In a natural way you would wait for Google to crawl your sitemap and find the new URL in there. But by doing this via the fetch as Google tool you can speed up this process and submit it directly to being indexed. I would recommend this if Google is not crawling your site on a regular basis.
-
I cannot see why it would hurt to submit articles with fetch as google, but in general if you have a plugin controlling your XML sitemap, Google will get updated whenever something changes or something new is posted. Fetch as Google will just make it happen faster than if you wait for the bot to come and crawl the site.

How do I handle a redirect chain issue pertaining to a page that doesn't actually exist on my site?
I have a page showing up on the insights report as being a redirect chain. This page however does not exist as far as I can tell. It is not on my dashboard anywhere and pointing a browser to it produces a messy page with Wordpress theme error code spit out. How do I track this down to clean it up if the page does not exist within my Wordpress installation? The page for reference is https://butlermobility.com/dealers/downloads. As it stands today the dealers and downloads pages are separate. There is no downloads sub page within the dealers section.

Or I can get the old domain to redirect but not the internal pages. Thanks

Home Pages of Several Websites are disappearing / reappearing in Google Index
Hi, I periodically use the Google site command to confirm that our client's websites are fully indexed. Over the past few months I have noticed a very strange phenomenon which is happening for a small subset of our client's websites... basically the home page keeps disappearing and reappearing in the Google index every few days. This is isolated to a few of our client's websites and I have also noticed that it is happening for some of our client's competitor's websites (over which we have absolutely no control). In the past I have been led to believe that the absence of the home page in the index could imply a penalty of some sort. This does not seem to be the case since these sites continue to rank the same in various Google searches regardless of whether or not the home page is listed in the index. Below are some examples of sites of our clients where the home page is currently not indexed - although they may be indexed by the time you read this and try it yourself. Note that most of our clients are in Canada. My questions are: 1. has anyone else experienced/noticed this? 2. any thoughts on whether this could imply some sort of penalty? or could it just be a bug in Google? 3. does Google offer a way to report stuff like this? Note that we have been building websites for over 10 years so we have long been aware of issues like www vs. non-www, canonicalization, and meta content="noindex" (been there done that in 2005). I could be wrong but I do not believe that the site would keep disappearing and reappearing if something like this was the issue. Please feel free to scrutinize the home pages to see if I have overlooked something obvious - I AM getting old. site:dietrichlaw.ca - this site has continually ranked in the top 3 for [kitchener personal injury lawyers] for many years. site:burntucker.com - since we took over this site last year it has moved up to page 1 for [ottawa personal injury lawyers] site:bolandhowe.com - #1 for [aurora personal injury lawyers] site:imranlaw.ca - continually ranked in the top 3 for [mississauga immigration lawyers]. site:canadaenergy.ca - ranks #3 for [ontario hydro plans] Thanks in advance! Why is there a difference in the number of indexed pages shown by GWT and site: search?
Hi Moz Fans, I have noticed that there is a huge difference between the number of indexed pages of my site shown via site: search and the one that shows Webmaster Tools. While searching for my site directly in the browser (site:), there are about 435,000 results coming up. According to GWT there are over 2.000.000 My question is: Why is there such a huge difference and which source is correct? We have launched the site about 3 months ago, there are over 5 million urls within the site and we get lots of organic traffic from the very beginning. Hope you can help! Thanks! Aleksandra

We are wondering if we should add more colour or graphics to the home page. we are going through each section of the site to make it a more enjoyable experience for our readers. Can I use canonical tags to merge property map pages and availability pages to their counterpart overview pages?
I have a property website, for each property are 4-5 tabs each with their own URL, these pages include the overview page which is content rich, and auxilliary pages such as maps, availability, can I use a canonical tag to merge the tabs with very little content to their corresponding overview page which is content rich? I.e. www.mywebsite.co.uk/property-1/overview This page has tabs for map, town info, availability which all have their own url i.e. www.mywebsite.co.uk/property-1/map
