Link building strategy - my weak link!

Please help me understand link building. I've read the articles on Moz, but they seem vague to me. Specific questions:
1. How do I get my webpage on good quality sites?
2. Guest blogging? Good or not?
3. What about when people pick up one of our blog stories and publish it on their site with a link back? Is that bad now because it is duplicate content???
4. Forum posts with a link in the signature? Good or not?
5. Directories - I get it that these are no longer good... are they severely negative? Should I take them down.
6. PR - Looks like this is bad... right???
7. Youtube - any value?
8. Pinterst, LinkedIn, Twitter, Facebook, Instagram? Any value to backlinks here?
9. What about sites like redit?
10. Anything else I should consider?

Check out Brian Dean at backlinko.com (I believe Brian is also here on MOZ) - he has some excellent ideas for getting links from quality sites with good content creation. Actually, he has some of the best ideas I have seen in a while.

Honest thoughts needed about link building / removal.
I have a small online business that has suffered through Google updates over the past year. Turns out that the links built by a previous SEO were harmful - yes, it's the usual story, I know. I've been in touch with an SEO about link removal/link building and have had a proposal. It's not cheap and I would need to dig deep, but it'll certainly be worth it if things work out. If it doesn't, it'll probably become impossible to continue the business. Personally speaking, it's a sorry situation. For link removal, the SEO's proposing to contact the webmasters followed by disavowing, if needed. There's 15k links, but I think a high percentage of these are from industry blogs that I sponsor that have site wide links. Have you heard many success stories about outsourced link removal? For link building, they will be targeting industry websites and blogs. The thing is, I know most of the industry bloggers anyway, and can probably reach out to them myself, if I can develop the right high quality content that they will want to feature. Call me a cynic, but I'm not sure how the SEO can do this. The quality of content on these blogs is extremely high as it's a very creative/visual industry that I'm involved in. I'm just not sure how much scope there is for a third party (with no knowledge of the industry) to do this effectively. That said, there's blogs that aren't directly related to my niche, and I suppose there's possible opportunity there. Maybe??! If the link removal is a good idea, am I better off trying to build links myself and combine that with the link removal service?

Link Building Techniques: Guest Blogging - Is it Okay or Not?

This includes exchanging money for links, or posts that contain links; exchanging goods or services for links; or sending someone a “free” product in exchange for them writing about it and including a link." So assuming you provide high quality guest posts to high quality blogs, is it okay or not to use this method as a link building technique?

My website is having around 170 K webpages and every web page is meant for individual keyword. e.g. keyword for every page is height of a movie star. What should be my link building strategy Should I link other sites to index page of my website (if yes then what should be the anchor text) ? Outsourced link building?
My company is looking at outsourcing part of our SEO - some supplementary link building to boost some deep links. What does the SEOmoz community think of outsourcing link building? Every company that I've researched seems to employ very low quality techniques, which ends up with a bunch of spammy/sidebar/links page/comment links. Are there companies that specialise in high quality link building? We would definitely be looking for people that would do things like write engaging guest posts, etc, rather than spamming our brand across the internet. Are there any lessons that you've learned that you can share with me?

Primary link building for new clients, where do you go first?
When starting out with a new client, where do you look first to build links for that client? I have a lot of close friends who have small businesses with not a very huge budget for SEO and I'm trying to wrap my head around how to do a significant amount of quality link building without breaking the bank. I've been hearing about going after niche directories, and my question is most of them have a ton of links on any given page. Is it even worth taking the time to approach these sites knowing they won't pass a lot of link juice?
