Content of the Product Page
-
Hi Everybody :
how can you tell if the content on the product pages are accessible by google ?
please have a look at my product page :
http://www.fireplaceproducts.co.uk/stoves/aarrow-stoves/aarrow-ecoburn-defra-wood-burning-stove/
i used classes in product page to set the key features, construction ,...
i notices other companies done these as text and they get better ranks do you think that's the reason ?
also to test that i added the text exact same as the key features , construction ,... as additional information at the end of the product page , would you thin that would be considered as duplication ?
Kind Regards
Arta

Hi Arta,
Sorry, I was out for most of yesterday. And not quite sure what happened to the link. This is the tool I was referring to: http://www.webconfs.com/search-engine-spider-simulator.php
If you break your page up, you have basic information and cost at the top left with the image to the right - nothing wrong with that, but the buy button should also be in the Product Details up there at the top. As it stands, you have a price match and accessories before you get to it.
Then you have a big block of Special Offers. It is important to say if it comes with something free, but this doesn't look right at all. The heading for that (included free with this stove) is smaller than the product headings below. You need to box this off somehow and make it stand out.
Then you come to the drop downs and additional information. There is so much going on here - the use of the collapsable ones and horizontal tabs don't really work well together. Why not use all horizontal tabs? And I would get rid of any duplication you have in the Additional Information.

"how can you tell if the content on the product pages are accessible by google?"
Simple. Use seo-browser to see what is "crawlable" by a search engine bot. I have done this for the link you provided. Here is the result:
If you see it shown there, then Google can read it.
Secondly, make sure the product pages or folders are not blocked with any robots.txt rules, and that the page is set to "index/follow", which it currently does not look like they are, based off of viewing the page source.
Sumbit a sitemap to GWT with all the site URL's you want indexed.
As a sidenote, I found this on the page:
<title>Aarrow ecoburn stoves, aarrow stoves uk, ecoburn 5 7 9 11 stove</title>
Since the page is about "wood burning stove(s)" you will probably want to mention that in the descriptions and keywords. If you do get that page showing up in search results, that description could be a bit prettier. I doubt people will click on something that either looks spammy, or is something they cannot understand. Something like: "Fireplace Products UK offers a wide selection of Aarrow Ecoburn wood buring stoves for your home. Primary UK distributor of Aarrow stoves and ovens."
Page title should reflect the same. Right now, they all display the same info.
Hope this helps!

I like to use screaming frog or xenu. They basically crawl the links on your site and give you a report on the results. To put it simply, if pages do not show up in the results then Google probably wont either. Be careful though, the free version of screaming frog only crawls up to 500 pages.
You can also look at individual pages by typing "cache:[url]" into the address bar in chrome. This displays Google's latest index of the page. If it shows a 404 error then it has not indexed it - although this will often be the case with new products as Google just hasn't indexed it yet.

Thank Andy :
where would you imagine things should be ? would you give me couple of examples?
also would yo tell me what do you think about this website :
http://www.stovesareus.co.uk/all-stoves/multi-fuel-stoves/aarrow-acorn-4-view.html

Thank you for quick response !
so my question was how you know if your content is visible and accessible by Google , is there a straight answer for that ?
buy now button is next to price , but when product has price match option and accessories that users can add buy now button is underneath all those choices , do you think when users have a choice of buying this product cheaper or add accessories before go to checkout buy now button should still be next to price?
you are right about reviews we tried but cant get so many of them !

Hi,
I picked up a tool seo-browser.com from this post http://moz.com/community/q/what-recommendations-do-you-have-for-the-seo-of-this-site#reply_237515 by David Kley
It's a bit like a Fetch as Google https://support.google.com/webmasters/answer/158587?hl=en

Hi Arta,
Andy has given you some good tips there.
I found the page a bit all over the place with nothing where I would imagine it should be, but in terms of what the search engines can see, have a look at this tool. It will help you understand what Google can see on the page.

In terms of being seen as duplicate, yes but this content is essential - you can't get away from the fact the dimension / spec is the details and you can't change them, but what you can do is add more unique content to the page.
There seems to be a lot of manufacturers content on the page and I would assume that a lot of your competitors are using the same info - so this is where the duplicate worry would come in for me.
While this is quick and easy to use, its worth spend the time to add more unique content, and higher up the page the better.
You have Reviews section, have you been contacting previous purchases and encouraging them to leave a review - this will help to create unique content. If your using a shopping platform to create your store like shopify etc there are a lot of plugins to do this for you automatically so once set up you don't need to worry about it.
On a side note, it actually took me a while to find the buy button - it wasn't where I would of expected it to be, next to the price.

Duplicate content
Hi everyone, I have a wedding blog I submit posts to on a monthly basis for a link back. One of the staff said to change the first 200 character and I can post it on my own blog with no duplicate content penalty. Any thoughts? Best wishes. David.

What to do with high-traffic pages that are not related to e-commerce?
Hello folks! We run a webshop selling wine and spirits, which obviously serves the purpose to generate revenue. To add further value to our customers, we have a section on the site, suggesting food recipes. The main purpose of that section is to inspire and educate about how wine and foods can be combined. Rankings are getting higher on "important" keywords for our business, in terms of products and product categories. However, the recipe pages, which are less important, are getting much more organic traffic. So here comes my question: Having "less important" pages that do not convert in terms of purchases, but however do get loads of organic traffic, what could I do with these pages, in terms of SEO? Could they be used to pass link juice to other, more "important" pages, that we actually want to rank on? Thanks!

Can a homepage have a penalty but not the rest of the pages?
I've got an unusual issue. I set up a new website with new content and moved old (blog) content to the new site. On the old site, most of the blog content wasn't ranking after the Oct update. On the new site it all started ranking again after I redirected old URLs to new URLs. However while all the blog content ranks, the homepage doesn't rank for the new brand term. There are multiple articles in press that refer to the new website using the branded terms as anchor text, but it's still not ranking. Is it possible that the redirected homepage (and only the hompage) from the old site is carrying a penalty? If so, should I not redirect the homepage of the old site but all of it's sub pages?

Anyone used this service before? - Organic Content Distribution
I was pitched today by a "content syndication network" that claims to be able to syndicate across 200 "local news" sites along with syndicate the content to the editors and writers social sites, along with the publisher social sites for a flat fee. Just like a MarketWire.com service but NOT for press releases. For articles. The company offering this is www.befirstinc.com. Need to vett them out and make sure this is not a FTC nor Google Quality Guidelines violation for SEO purposes.

Few questions regarding onsite content?
1. How important is having the keywords you are targeting on the page? Lets say you rank position 10 for 'Plumbing Services London' but you don't actually use the word 'London' at all in the page copy, what kind of effect could you expect if you added the word in the content? Bit of a silly question really, I know it would have some effect but how important is it really? 2. What kind of effect would adding a blog with lets say 500 words of great content twice a week have on rankings? If you anchor text linked out of the copy would this alone help with ranking or is the reason for adding a blog to just use it as link bait to pull in more links, thus rankings are only effected when the blog starts to gain links?

Why links coming from this page are never found? (opensiteexplorer)
There is a very strong authority and ranking website that has links on it to some of our competitors websites and other companies. I used opensiteexplorer to check if these links were showing up as backlinks on competitors site but I was unable to find them. This 'powerful' page of links has been around for quite a while so I don't think time has anything to do with it. SEOmoz toolbar itself gives the particular page good rank, trust, and authority. Using this website (not sure it has any use) http://rapid.searchmetrics.com/en/ it finds the outbound links and domains. I was unable to find any nofollow or noindex things anywhere on the site.. Just looking at the site and it's links I would think it an ideal backlink target for my company. However using opensiteexplorer I am lead to believe this backlink is never being found? Any thoughts? Cheers

What are the best Content Syndication services?
Hi, I'm still trying to find the best methods to drive more traffic to my site ( geotherm.co.hu). Now I'm experimenting with Content Syndication, but yet I don't have any experience. Which are the best services? Are three sites that I should avoid?
