Meta description not showing in search results
-
Hi,
One of my client's websites is not showing its Meta descriptions in search results. I've looked at the html and have noticed that they are using ' rather than " around the description tag (see below)
<meta name="<a class="attribute-value">description</a>" content='<a class="attribute-value">Student Accommodation in Portsmouth or Southampton - Fully Furnished Studios, Close to the Universities. All Inclusive Rent with WiFi. Going Fast, Book Now!</a>' /> Is this likely to be the problem, or am I missing something very obvious? The website is http://www.unilife.co.uk/ Many thanks, Ben

Thanks Tom (and also Sanuel)
I had hoped this was the case. Cheers!

Yes. That is the problem. If you'll look at Google Webmaster Tools, you'll see how often Google crawls the site. That will give you a good idea of when Google will "see" the change. Then, the search results themselves should reflect the change in the following few days.
Just one thing to keep in mind though: Google itself says it will not always show your desired meta description. It may highlight different text excerpts from your site based on the search query and other factors.

Hi Ben
That's very much going to be the cause of the problem. Once that is fixed you should see it appear in the next few days.

Meta Robots index & noindex Both Implemented on Website
I don't want few of the pages of website to get indexed by Google, thus I have implemented meta robots noindex code on those specific pages. Due to some complications I am not able to remove meta robots index from header of every page Now, on specific pages I have both codes 'index & noindex' implemented. Question is: Will Google crawl/index pages which have noindex code along with index code? Thanks!

How to optimise a page for a regional search without it looking clumsy?
What's is the best way to go about optimising a page for a regional search phrase. E.g. 'Physiotherapy CITY' and keep the text looking natural and not manipulated? Previously I've added the search phrase 'Physiotherapy CITY' to TITLE and H1 but this can look clumsy when used in the H1 tag. If I grade a page using MOZ on-page optimisation it will suggest I add the search phrase to the H1. What the recommended way of doing regional on-page optimisation?

Ecommerce Product Reviews - Show All, Most Recent, Sampling?
Just curious what you guys are doing in the way of displaying product reviews on ecommerce sites. I couldn't find much on best practices here so I'm turning to the Moz community. We're moving our main site to Magento and plan to launch it in a few months. Some of our products have 1,000+ reviews and we're wondering what the best way to show them is. I'm thinking just put them all on there (provided it doesn't slow down the page) to increase unique content per page, more keywords, etc. We've also thought of showing just the 50-100 most recent reviews or filtering the reviews and showing a sampling we choose. Thoughts?

Why Isn't Google Authorship Showing My Picture?
I have several clients and the Google Authorship images used display in the search results for all of them. About a month ago all of the images disappeared, however it still displays "by <name>, indicating that Google Authorship is working -- it just doesn't show the image (see screenshots). The image follows the guidelines, and we've got the rel author tag in place, with a link back to Google. </name> When I use the Google Structured Data Testing Tool it shows that authorship is properly functioning. I'm completely stumped. Does anyone have any ideas why this may not be working? Here's two examples of the sites with Authorship not working properly (screenshots below): criminalattorneylongislandny.com

Strange meta description shown in SERPS
Hi there, I recently stumbled upon a strange phenomenon in the SERPs. Here's the situation: A customer’s website is ranking for a keyword with the root domain. Strangely the actual meta description (as implemented in the source code) is not shown. Instead Google takes the H1-Header and a part of a short element from a contact form. Any clue/hint, how this could have happened and can be changed? Sorry, that I can’t name the domain and the keyword (in German), but I hope, the above explains the problem. Thanks in advance and cheers from Germany Sven

Does show/hide element with javascript impact SEO
Hi I am developing an ecommerce site and want to place text on all category and home page. The challenge is that 300 words of text for the pages does not fit into the design appropriately especially on the home page. If I were to use a show/hide element with javascript would this be seen as spam or a trick to the search engines. I do not think it is spam as it will be actual content for the site and the visitor can view it if they click on the show button. Would love to hear your thoughts?

Should I show and allow following of deep navigation links?
Hello mozzers, I am currently designing an e-commerce system for various companies, my pilot being www.containerpadlocks.co.uk. I you look on the left in the navigation, you will see only the top level categories are visible (and in the html). Sub categories are only shown if viewing a parent category, or a product in that category/subcategory. My question would be, should I be listing all my subcategories in that navigation (hidden from the user) to allow Google to index my pages easily, and will this promote more PageRank and internal links for my site, or will this just dilute my page juice? Many Thanks,
