Wistia video rich snippet thumbnail images
-
Hi there,
I just wondered if anyone on the forum had experience of using Wistia video rich snippets and how to control the thumbnail image that appears in SERPs?
I have selected a thumbnail with the video information on the Wistia account, but a different one actually appears in the results pages (the image being used doesn't actually appear on the page at all, but it is elsewhere on the site).
Has anyone had anything similar and what did you do the control the thumbnail being used?
Thanks!

Thanks for the tips! I'll give them a try & report back!

If Google are pulling in a different thumbnail from the one you're stipulating in your Wistia account, there's likely going to be one of two problems.
- You embedded the video with an SEO embed before updating the thumb. This means that your schema.org mark-up surrounding the video will contradict with the variation of the thumb submitted in your video sitemap. Google may have chosen the default snippet in the schema, so check to see what's included in the source
- Your open graph tags are referencing a different image. As OG tags are in the head, they're often the ones Google take as the default for video thumbs.
You may alternatively have issues with Google randomly taking another image from your page to populate the video thumb, which I have seen happen a couple of times, but the above two situations are the most common.
I hope that's useful! If you need help solving the problem, give me a shout and I might be able to offer you some one-off consulting.
Phil.

Moving image directory location on redesign.
I'm getting ready to do a redesign for a client and one thing that annoys me about the directory structure of the website is that he has files buried deep in the directories. For example, the images are buried like four folders deep in some cases and I would like to move all of those images into an images folder directly below the root. All of those images, however, have already been indexed by google and show up in google images. If I start moving those images around, could it hurt his rankings?

Image Duplication
I'm feeling strong! Ok, so can Google penalise a website which has "duplicated images" - coming from a completely independent website?

Video Sitemap Help
MOZ Helpers, Currently our clients videos are hosted on Viemo and that will not change as our client likes the creative/artist vibe and community via Viemo. That being said we need to create a video sitemap. BTW, Our site uses wordpress. When someone in house uploads a video in the future we want them to be able to enter the video title, description, and tags on the video and when they hit "update" the video and information will get added to our video site map. Wistia has this option here http://wistia.com/doc/video-seo , but like I mentioned above our client has all videos via Viemo. I found a Google XML wordpress plugin, but that said it only works for Youtube video's. The Jr. developer is not confident in creating one himself from the Google webmaster instructions and asked me to search for another solution. Check out the attached pic, that is what I am looking for. Is their a plugin or another option where we can use for easy sitemap updating and management for our Viemo videos? Thanks in advance! How to push down outdated images in Google image search
When you do a Google image search for one of my client's products, you see a lot of first-generation hardware (the product is now in its third generation). The client wants to know what they can do to push those images down so that current product images rise to the top. FYI: the client's own image files on their site aren't very well optimized with keywords. My thinking is to have the client optimize their own images and the ones they give to the media with relevant keywords in file names, alt text, etc. Eventually, this should help push down the outdated images is my thinking. Any other suggestions? Thanks so much.

Snippets on every page considered duplicate content?
If I create a page that pulls a 10 snippets of information from various external site, would that content be considered duplicate content? If I link to the source, would it be recommended to use a "nofollow" tag?
