VisitSweden indexing error
-
Hi all
Just got a new site up about weekend travel for VisitSweden, the official tourism office of Sweden. Everything went just fine except som issues with indexing.
The site can be found here at weekend.visitsweden.com/no/
For some weird reason the "frontpage" of the site does not get indexed. What I have done myself to find the issue:
- Added sitemaps.xml
- Configured and added site to webmaster tools
- Checked 301s so they are not faulty
By doing a simple site:weekend.visitsweden.com/no/ you can see that the frontpage is simple not in the index. Also by doing a cache:weekend.visitsweden.com/no/ I see that Google tries to index the page without the trailing /no/ for some reason.
http://webcache.googleusercontent.com/search?q=cache:http://weekend.visitsweden.com/no/
Any smart ideas to get this fixed or where to start looking?
All help greatly appreciated
Kind regards
Fredrik

Oh my God Fred!! the weekend sub-domain has been completely blocked from being crawled using a robots.txt file sitting in the root of the sub-domain.
http://weekend.visitsweden.com/robots.txt
User-agent: * Disallow: / Please remove the '/' from there **immediately**

Hi Fred,
I just copied my first response:
Here is your redirection setup:
http://weekend.visitsweden.com/ being redirected via 301 to
http://weekend.visitsweden.com/no being redirected via 301 to
http://weekend.visitsweden.com/no/
So, I would suggest you to remove the interim URL without the trailing slash after 'no'. Let the original homepage, http://weekend.visitsweden.com/ also be redirected to http://weekend.visitsweden.com/no/ (the one with trailing slash) via 301.
So your redirection setup should be as follows:
http://weekend.visitsweden.com/ - via 301 to - http://weekend.visitsweden.com/no/
Essentially, we are eliminating the redirection loop here. Please try this and post back.
Best regards,

Hi
Again thanks for your quick response. Unfortunately we still have the same issue even though we have performed many checks and tests. Any more smart ideas on how this can be corrected?
Regards
Fredrik

Hi Fred,
Please wait for at least 2 weeks for the change to reflect in Google. This happens and depends on how popular your site is in terms of link profile, DA, PA etc..I still see "http://weekend.visitsweden.com/no" (without trailing slash) in Google's index. Let us wait for sometime. Nothing to worry about it.

Hi again
The weirdest this is that it does not seem to update. When I do a site:weekend.visitsweden.com/no/ the page is still nowhere to be found.
https://www.google.no/?gws_rd=ssl#q=site:weekend.visitsweden.com%2Fno%2F
Any ideas?
Again thanks
Fredrik

Hi Fred, now its perfect. It should soon reflect in Google and you will be able to see it in site: search. Good Luck my friend.

Thanks for the great input! Have now tried to do the changes as per your suggestion.
Does it look better now?
Again thanks

Dear Fred,
Here is your redirection setup:
http://weekend.visitsweden.com/ being redirected via 301 to
http://weekend.visitsweden.com/no being redirected via 301 to
http://weekend.visitsweden.com/no/
So, I would suggest you to remove the interim URL without the trailing slash after 'no'. Let the original homepage, http://weekend.visitsweden.com/ also be redirected to http://weekend.visitsweden.com/no/ (the one with trailing slash) via 301.
So your redirection setup should be as follows:
http://weekend.visitsweden.com/ - via 301 to - http://weekend.visitsweden.com/no/
This should fix the issue. Essentially, we are eliminating the redirection loop here.
By the way, both the URLs, with and without trailing slash appear in Google when searched with the following queries:

New Subdomain & Best Way To Index
We have an ecommerce site, we'll say at https://example.com. We have created a series of brand new landing pages, mainly for PPC and Social at https://sub.example.com, but would also like for these to get indexed. These are built on Unbounce so there is an easy option to simply uncheck the box that says "block page from search engines", however I am trying to speed up this process but also do this the best/correct way. I've read a lot about how we should build landing pages as a sub-directory, but one of the main issues we are dealing with is long page load time on https://example.com, so I wanted a kind of fresh start. I was thinking a potential solution to index these quickly/correctly was to make a redirect such as https://example.com/forward-1 -> https:sub.example.com/forward-1 then submit https://example.com/forward-1 to Search Console but I am not sure if that will even work. Another possible solution was to put some of the subdomain links accessed on the root domain say right on the pages or in the navigation. Also, will I definitely be hurt by 'starting over' with a new website? Even though my MozBar on my subdomain https://sub.example.com has the same domain authority (DA) as the root domain https://example.com? Recommendations and steps to be taken are welcome!

Google indexing "noindex" pages
1 weeks ago my website expanded with a lot more pages. I included "noindex, follow" on a lot of these new pages, but then 4 days ago I saw the nr of pages Google indexed increased. Should I expect in 2-3 weeks these pages will be properly noindexed and it may just be a delay? It is odd to me that a few days after including "noindex" on pages, that webmaster tools shows an increase in indexing - that the pages were indexed in other words. My website is relatively new and these new pages are not pages Google frequently indexes.

PR Dilution and Number of Pages Indexed
Hi Mozzers, My client is really pushing for me to get thousands, if not millions of pages indexed through the use of long-tail keywords. I know that I can probably get quite a few of them into Google, but will this dilute the PR on my site? These pages would be worthwhile in that if anyone actually visits them, there is a solid chance they will convert to a lead do to the nature of the long-tail keywords. My suggestion is to run all the keywords for these thousands of pages through adwords to check the number of queries and only create pages for the ones which actually receive searches. What do you guys think? I know that the content needs to have value and can't be scraped/low-quality and pulling these pages out of my butt won't end well, but I need solid evidence to make a case either for or against it to my clients.

Incorrect cached page indexing in Google while correct page indexes intermittently
Hi, we are a South African insurance company. We have a page http://www.miway.co.za/midrivestyle which has a 301 redirect to http://www.miway.co.za/car-insurance. Problem is that the former page is ranking in the index rather than the latter. The latter page does index occasionally in the same position, but rarely. This is primarily for search phrases like "car insurance" and "car insurance quotes". The ranking was knocked down the index with Penquin 2.0. It was not ranking at all but we have managed to recover to 12/13. This abnormally has only been occurring since the recovery. The correct page does index for other search terms like "insurance for car". Your help would be appreciated, thanks!

Redirecting index.html to the root
Hi, I was wondering if there is a safe way to consolidate link juice on a single version of a home page. I find incoming links to my site that link to both mysite.com/ and mysite.com/index.html. I've decided to go with mysite.com/ as my main and only URL for the site and now I'd like to transfer all link juice from mysite.com/index.html to mysite.com/

Google indexing issue?
Hey Guys, After a lot of hard work, we finally fixed the problem on our site that didn't seem to show Meta Descriptions in Google, as well as "noindex, follow" on tags. Here's my question: In our source code, I am seeing both Meta descriptions on pages, and posts, as well as noindex, follow on tag pages, however, they are still showing the old results and tags are also still showing in Google search after about 36 hours. Is it just a matter of time now or is something else wrong?
