Is WordPress a Blog in the eyes of Google?
-
Hi,
My online Shop is based on WordPress with the WooCommerce plugin. Now, I have met a SEO guy who told me that's bad in the eyes of Google:
Because Google apparently sees my website as a blog and not as a E-Commerce site.
Wow, this statement really confused my, since I am working so hard on content and good rankings. Any opinions on this would be appreciated.
Best, Robin

Ahh ok I follow you! Well, we haven't run any actual experiments using 2 online shops like the example you mentioned (one using Woo & the other using another platform). But we have taken existing OpenCart & Magento sites that were already ranking for competitive terms and migrated them over to WooCommerce. The rankings dipped for a short period but recovered and have since superseded the rankings they had before.
I was skeptical of WooCommerce at first but it has become our preferred solution for eCommerce. I'm not saying the others are bad or anything.
To answer your question, I don't think it would make a difference if you used one platform over another if they were both structured the same and had similar social engagement, etc. As long as you keep things RELEVANT and keep the site geared around your target audience needs, you should be fine either way.
Hope this helps!!

No, it was a thought on a fictional experiment.
If you create 2 online shops with the same content, the results would be the same (forget about duplicate content for that thought experiment).
Now will the results still be the same if you have 2 different systems, e.g. Magento and WordPress? Given that URL structure, social shares and other ranking signals are equal.

Certainly Robin! I'm happy to share my experience and opinion
In terms of rankings, Google simply bases it on relevancy. I don't think you should worry too much about blog vs ecommerce. Woo Commerce is a great tool and IMO delivers the best of both worlds. It gives the ability to have an online store while at the same time, gives the blog platform where you can post relevant content for your site users.
To answer your question, I first need to clarify what you mean by:
"If you have the same content on all pages and one system WooCommerce (WordPress) and one Magento, would that make a difference?"
Do you also have a Magento store?

Thank you for your feedback. He didn't give any specifics, just said that Google puts WordPress sites in the 'blog' category.
Although, I don't know if Google is differentiating between blogs and ecommerce sites in terms of ranking.
The question is: If you have the same content on all pages and one system WooCommerce (WordPress) and one Magento, would that make a difference? My guess is not, but I am not an expert Thanks again for you answer.

Hey,
I Agree with Bryan, and I myself have ecommerce websites with woo commerce that have blogs as well. When you go to the posts section and add a post that should be going to the blog section on your website. Google is looking for good rich content on your pages explaining each product.

Hey Robinl!!
We have several projects that use WooCommerce. All have an online store and blog. No problems with any of them!
I am not sure where he is getting that idea from as I am certain Google understands that WooCommerce is a WP plugin that allows you to run the online store on the WP (blog) platform. Was this just his opinion or was there any supporting information that he gave you? Maybe based on another project he'd worked on?
IMO and experience, you are fine to use this set up. We have several sites set up using this same structure without any issues. We've even moved some Opencart and Magento sites over to use WooCommerce. They too are doing just fine!

does silo structure has a positive point on Google Ranking or not, and what is the importance of internal linking, how google see the internal linking content as compared to less internal linking, I'm trying an experiment I do a lot of internal backlinking in Website Unionwell as compared to Website B (which has apparently less internal Links) so with your experience in SEO field which site will get traffic rapidly.

Could this be seen as duplicate content in Google's eyes?
Hi I'm an in-house SEO and we've recently seen Panda related traffic loss along with some of our main keywords slipping down the SERPs. Looking for possible Panda related issues I was wondering if the following could be seen as duplicate content. We've got some very similar holidays (travel company) on our website. While they are different I'm concerned it may be seen as creating content that is too similar: http://www.naturalworldsafaris.com/destinations/africa-and-the-indian-ocean/kenya/suggested-holidays/the-wildlife-and-beaches-of-kenya.aspx http://www.naturalworldsafaris.com/destinations/africa-and-the-indian-ocean/kenya/suggested-holidays/ultimate-kenya-wildlife-and-beaches.aspx http://www.naturalworldsafaris.com/destinations/africa-and-the-indian-ocean/kenya/suggested-holidays/wildlife-and-beach-family-safari.aspx They do all have unique text but as you can see from the titles, they are very similar (note from an SEO point of view the tabbed content is all within the same page at source level). At the top level of the holiday pages we have a filtered search:
Intermediate & Advanced SEO | | KateWaite
http://www.naturalworldsafaris.com/destinations/africa-and-the-indian-ocean/kenya/suggested-holidays.aspx These pages have a unique introduction but the content snippets being pulled into the boxes is drawn from each of the individual holiday pages. I'm just concerned that these could be introducing some duplicating issues. Any thoughts?0 -
Dropped Out of Google and Bing
I am helping with a site that at one time I had on page 1 for Google/Bing. Site started to slip in rankings, then someone else did a makeover of the store and botched things by renaming pages, having errors in pages (multiple head/body), mismatch page names from sitemap, etc. Site slipped to page 4/5. I righted things, fixed duplication using canonicalization, made some other changes. Now site is gone completely from Google/Bing for desired keyword. No penalties. Site still shows if do search on domain name. Site is www.plussizeplum.com (plus size lingerie, sorry), keyword target is plus size lingerie. Anyone have any clues, tips, etc on why we fell off the face of the earth? Page Authority/Domain Authority are both comparable to most of the page 1/2 sites for same thing. Thanks for any advice.

Yoast Wordpress not working
Hey everyone, In looking through my site and doing some Google searches of titles we've written, it appears that all the posts we're making aren't showing up in Google search results. Example: If i paste the title of this post Netflix CEO suggests partnership with HBO, but HBO quickly nixes the idea into Google, it does not pull our post. Given the uniqueness of the headline, it should pull up our website in SERPS, but it doesn't. My assumption is that this Yoast plugin simply isn't working, but I doubt it's Yoast's fault. The site is not set to private, so that's not the problem. I'm also noticing that my sites description isn't showing up either. Can anyone help me solve this problem, please?

Do comment links on blogs help the blog itself rank?
Hi I have a blog - Carzilla.co.uk - and it keeps getting what are pretty obviously spam comments with links to unconnected websites of various quality. The blog is quite new and not ranking highly in SERPs for anything in particular yet. So my question is, is it better to let some of these comments through so google can see activity on the site? Or do spammy comments with links make the site look like a link farm? Any advice on what my policy should be - purely from a Google serps perspective - would be great.

Removing a Page From Google index
We accidentally generated some pages on our site that ended up getting indexed by google. We have corrected the issue on the site and we 404 all of those pages. Should we manually delete the extra pages from Google's index or should we just let Google figure out that they are 404'd? What the best practice here?
