Why Moz Doesn't See or Count Our Backlinks?
-
Hi Moz Community!
We have been working hard to improve our Moz metrics, measuring against a high ranking competitor to help us set our goals.
Our Majestic and Webmaster Tools find tens of thousands of external backlinks pointing to our domain. That's all well and good. Moz's Open Site Explorer, however, only finds 900 total links - including internal links!
This being the case, we have worked diligently to build a variety of great external backlinks, creating Bitly links and encouraging clicks on those through social promotion. Yet, our competitor has over 7,000 external backlinks in Moz's index, while ours is not growing relative to their number of backlinks.
Can anyone share with us what they do to tell Moz about their backlinks? We already know we have many more backlinks than our competitor, from trusted domains with good authority, yet it seems Moz is not discovering them. We just want to understand how to use these Moz metrics to create meaningful calls-to-action. Otherwise, it seems like a gargantuan waste of time, and our team has difficulty getting buy-in from our company to put time and assets toward tasks based on our Moz numbers!

This is very helpful Chris.Menke (and SamWebber)! Thank you for the feedback and insights. What we have been frustrated with is that we know we are building quality links on high-ranking, authority domains, yet it seemed to us that Moz was not learning of these links. What we've tried to understand is how Moz discovers and adds these URLs to its index. Working on theory alone, that not all of them will be discovered or accepted for index, we just want to be able to tell Moz about these relationships we are building out there - hoping that it does move our metrics from where they seem to have sat for a while. Again, the key issue is that we want to be able to use the Moz tools, but if we don't [get] the demanded "get results", the subscription isn't going to get approved! Needless to say, we are working double-time to build quality links from great content, but - not being social media experts - we are sort of throwing stuff against the wall hoping something will stick. Not the greatest strategy in the world, we know! But faint heart never won fair lady.

Keep in mind Registrar, that domain metrics and page metrics are different. Moz is less likely to crawl deep into lower quality pages (even on a higher DA site) than Majestic or WMT. The goal/purpose of that is to hopefully give you a better idea of the links that may actually be helping you rank in Google. Not every link that shows in every link-tool actually is a benefit to your ranking. If you're links are not showing up in Moz tools consider their quality somewhat suspect and work on building link relationships with sites who can demonstrate that relationship on higher quality pages.

When will Dotbot see changes to my robots.txt file?
Dotbot doesn't want to know anything about my site, my Page Authotize is still 1 and my DA is the same. How long does it take to start getting results? In all the websites we have been working on, we have no problems, but in ours it has come up.

Why is moz telling me I have duplicate content, but neither the content nor the urls are duplicates?
I just upgraded our website to a new one. This is the first crawl of the new website. It is telling me I have 24 Critical issues, all of which are duplicate content errors. Thing is, the urls are not duplicates and the content on the page is not duplicated either. Example, here is one error where it says there are two duplicates: <colgroup><col width="595"></colgroup>

Does using Sucuri block Moz?
I am using Opensite explorer on my site which uses Sucuri and it shows 0 for everything. Does Sucuri stop MOZ from reading the link? I also suspect that using Sucuri has made my SEO suffer because the first page is always saying "redirecting" . Anyone with experience to this? Thanks

Changed URL from HTTP to HTTPS - 99% of my backlinks don't know though
Hi Moz community, I've got a question about all old backlinks pointing to the http version of my site: Firstly, how it impacts my site's backlinks for SEO and secondly, why does Moz and if you know why Majestic have different metric report values for the different URLs. The Back Story Two months ago I bought an SSL for my personal domain and changed my URL from http to the https version. I 301'd it and can verify that on Majestic SEO using the old http URL. I did this sitewide for an eCommerce site that I'm working and did see a lift in traffic; that was the main reason based on Google talking about sites moving to the SSL Web. I'm No Stranger to 301s Of course all the URLs on my site have been 301'd. I used a HTTPS Redirect plugin for my WordPress site and there's been no issue. I also installed a 404 Checker plugin to log broken external links to my site where I can create a redirect right away in case the HTTPS plugin missed something along the way. I'm comfortable knowing that doing when you change the domain name for a site or just a page going from one URL to another will transfer all the link equity over time. What's Causing the Confusion What's a little confusing is that when I use tools like OSE or Majestic's Explorer, the data doesn't match. For instance in OSE, the https version of my domain has a DA of 1 and PA of 1. But, the http version of my site has a DA of 25 and PA of 36. With Majestic (BTW, please feel free to stop me from asking questions about another tool on Moz, but since we're all part of the same SEO community, I thought I'd ask it here anyway) the Trust and Citation flow values are definitely closely matched but still different values nonetheless. My Question Will I ever see the DA and PA the same for the https & http versions in the future? Does OSE catch the fact that there is a 301 redirect to the https version or does it only recognize that it redirects from http://kingrosales.com to http://www.kingrosales.com when in fact it redirects to https://www.kingrosales.com? My second question is, what about the backlinks? Is it because they are different URLs that OSE doesn't have a way to recognize this and display links from the old http version to the new https version? How will I know the true PA and DA of the https version of my site even with a perfectly executed 301 redirect? lol Let me know if you need more clarification. Thanks

May I know multiple campaigns set up, with same site url is allowable in Moz campaign or not?
Hi Guys, I have a question regarding moz campaign. I am a Moz Pro member, have taken Standard Plan. (Time being, am not in a position to upgrade to a higher plan) I have utilized only one campaign slot among total 5 slots. I have added xyz.com website in one campaign, there I have added 350 keywords which is the maximum count we can add in a a single campaign. Still, I have plenty of keywords to track for same website xyz.com. I am not planning to use the remaining 4 campaign slots for time being for any other websites. May I know, if I can add same xyz.com website in remaining campaign slots for tracking the remaining keywords for my website?
