Servers matter for different domains for same keywords?
-
We have 3 domains in the same industry, but unique content on each site. The whois info is private, but the domains are all under the same owner registrant info.
In terms of rankings, does it matter if we move them all into the same RackSpace cloud account? Will Google know the relationship somehow and if they do, will they care?

Bump
-
All sell the same insurance products. All are white hat going forward, but here is a summary of their basic history.
Site A:
- 12 years old
- Penguin algorithmic penalty (disavowed in January, waiting for update)
Site B:
- 6 years old
- Penguin algorithmic penalty (disavowed in January, waiting for update)
- Manual link penalty last summer (since lifted)
Site
- 3 years old
- No penalties
The companies have common interests, but different ownership.
My fear is that Google would think we are all the same and decide to rank 1 of the 3 sites for each keyword even though the content is unique and written by different people.

Hi,
Like Ryan mostly said already it depends on what your goals are with the site. If they're black/grey hat Google will care about the domains being on the same C block (same IP range). But if they don't have this intention you wouldn't notice any difference in rankings.
-
Depending on your goals for the three sites you may not have to "hide" it at all. Now if you have a mini link farm thing going on then you would definitely want to hide the whois info, as well as get hosting that can give you a different c-block ip address for each domain, try looking at http://seohosting.com/. But if the intention is "harmless" and you don't plan just using them as a way to link to each other (even though they still might in a whitehat way) you don't have to hide the info. Take opensiteexplorer.org and moz.com for example, it's clear that moz owns that site, but they don't feel the need to hide it because each site serves its own purpose.

Spammy keywords in our sub-domain but no penalty?
Hi, We have cigarettes and viagra as keywords in our sub-domain where our clients can post their business content. We have decent number of impressions and clicks for these related keywords. I have seen that these two words, especially "viagra" is most spammed. So are these hurting us? We dropped post Penguin update. Any correlation? Do you think that these keywords penalise us? We don't have messages or suggestion from Google Thanks, Satish

SEO - Use pages on main site or set up outside keyword rich domains and websites
I have a client who is wanting to target searches for competitors products. His idea was to purchase domains related to the searches he's targeting (for example, people looking for another company's app) and to build out one page websites addressing the search query and why a customer would choose his app solution over a competitor. I know he'd have to build a handful of links to each site for any chance of success but I wanted to ask the following.. Would doing this be better than just building pages addressing the searches on his main website domain? Is there an SEO risk to doing this? Potential for a penalty? Anything we need to do to structure these in a way that won't violate Google's SEO guidelines? Any other thoughts on pros and cons of each strategy? Thank you! Ricky

Sub-domain vs Root domain
I have recently taken over a website (website A) that has a domain authority of 33/100 and is linked to from 39 root domains. I have not yet selected any keywords to target so am currently unsure of ranking positions. However, website A is for a division of a company that has its own separate website (website B) which has a domain authority of 58/100 and over 1000 legitimate linking root domains. I have the option of moving website A to a sub-domain of website B. I also have the option of having website B provide a followed link to website A. So, my question is, for SEO purposes, is my website better off remaining on its own existing domain or is it likely to rank higher as a sub-domain of website B? I am sure there are pros and cons for both options but some opinions would be much appreciated.

Sub-domain or not???
Hi, We're setting up a forum for our users (our target audience responds extremely well to forums). I was wondering if it should be set up on a sub-domain or not. I'm leaning towards sub-domain, but our devs say this will impact how they approach it so I'd like to give them an answer asap so we can proceed with planning it! Thanks, Amelia

Domain Forwarding for SEO
Hey guys, I recently created a new website for a client who was ranking #1 for the term "jupiter obgyn" but they have now dropped down to #4. This happened because their old home page was at www. instead of just jupiterobgyn.com. When you type in the www. version, it does take you to the root domain but it's not carrying the old PA! The www. version of the page had a 22 PA and the new root domain hosted page is a 1. How can I fix it so that "link juice" carries over? Is this something i need to do in 1and1 (their web host) or within Wordpress? Thanks!!!

Which domain should I use?
I own a couple domains that are specific to a product and would like to know which one folks on here recommend. Primary Google Search Term Example: "Tax Bond" Example Domain 1: www.taxbonds.net Example Domain 2: www.tax-bond.net I've done research on here before and have come to the conclusion that hyphenated domains aren't bad (no more than 2 hyphens though). So, do I go for the EXACT search term with the hyphen or do I go for the pluralized search term without the hyphen, even though most people will not add the "s" in the Google search? Thanks, Alex
