Difficulties in positiong a specific keyword
-
Hi,
I am responsible for the blinds and curtains brand Kaaten and the its online store that operates in the Spanish market, during the last 6 months we have increasing substantially the traffic and improving the positioning of our main keywords (in most of the cases we postion right under Ikea and Leroy Merlin). However, there is a keyword that I cannot get to position, not even in the top 50 positions - that is the word "cortinas".
I do not understand why is that happening as in a word like "estores" with similar monthly searches and competition we rank 3rd. Looking at the Home site and analysing both keywords the density is similar, so I do not see many differences there. I also cleaned up a bit the content to remove some "cortinas" keywords and thus avoid the keyword stuffing, but no results so far.
Does any of you have any suggestion that what I can do to position better in that particular keyword?
Look forward for your response and thanks for your help.

Glad to hear those rankings are improving! I'd be really keen to hear how you get on, as I really can't see anything obvious as to why those wouldn't be ranking, aside from looking into the site structure more and use of 'cortinas' anchors.
Looking forward to seeing the site ranking well in the future!

Hi Hemblem 5,
Thanks for your answer, indeed I will be looking at consolidating the content as it might be that we have too many content pages and not a clear view of towards which one we should focus to position the word "cortinas".
For other concepts we are ranking quite well, "estores" we rank in top 5 and also "estores opacos" (black-out blinds) or "estores enrollables" (roller blinds) we rank quite good also. Even in concepts that contain the word "cortinas", like "cortinas opacas" that we rank in the top 3.
Actually for the last weeks we noticed an improvement on the positioning for the concept "cortinas" but we still not on teh first page that it is what we aim.
Anyhow, I will do what you mention and try to consolidate the pages not to scatter around the possibilities to rank for this concept.
Best regards and thanks for your help!

Hey,
I don't think I can answer this one for you completely, but having a look around the site, I can hopefully get some ideas flowing for you?
There's quite a few different pages targeting cortinas; using site:kaaten.com, I can see that there's this page which includes a KW-rich link to the homepage using the phrase 'cortinas'. Then there's also this page, which seems to serve a similar purpose?
I must admit, I don't know the cortinas/curtains market too well, but I have a suspicion that the way the site is structured might be worth looking at. There's a lot of great content, but perhaps some of it could be consolidated.
How are your rankings for other product related terms? E.g. specific types of cortinas

Drop in keyword rankings with a multi-region website
Hi everyone, I know that variations if this question have been asked on this forum and have been answered by Google also. Google's response seems to be clear that "Websites that provide content for different regions and in different languages sometimes create content that is the same or similar but available on different URLs. This is generally not a problem as long as the content is for different users in different countries." This was our approach when launching a new .co.nz website recently to coincide with us opening a new office in Auckland. Our original site is still our .com.au site. We went with a new domain name over a sub directory or sub domain for the reasons in the same Google article. After launching the NZ site in February and steadily growing some rankings, we've noticed in the last week or so a drastic drop in our keyword rankings (and traffic) for no apparent reason. There are no apparent issues in Search Console or with the Moz Site Crawl, so I'm wondering what's going on? I know rankings can fluctuate widely, especially when you're not on page 1 (which we're not) but the sudden and drastic drop did concern me. Currently, our AUS site's content is basically being replicated on the NZ site (e.g. blog posts, about us, company history, etc.). I just wanted to bounce it off you all to see whether you think it could be the "duplicate content" on the NZ site, or could it be something else? I'd really appreciate your input! Cheers, Nathan

Trying to get on Google page one for keyword "criminal defense attorney san diego". What can I do?
I'm trying to help a friend who is an attorney get on page one for the keyword "criminal defense attorney san diego." So far I've changed his title and description tags since they weren't optimized before. (SERP shows old title tag, however I submitted a XML sitemap through Webmaster tools to get the new title tags updated.) He also had a few duplicate pages, but I took care of that with some 301 redirects. I also added a h1 tag, alt image tag, and more content. I also spent a few hours building links for him. He currently has a page authority of 52 and domain authority of 44 with a decent amount of links pointing to his site. I'm wondering why he's stuck on page 4, when his competitors that have less impressive numbers seem to show up on page 1. I did look at his link profile using OSE and I'm worried that his old SEO guy got him spam links. His website is www.nasserilegal.com, however the page I was focusing on was www.nasserilegal.com/criminal.html Any advice would be great.

Beating a keyword Domain
Has anyone here managed to beat a keyword/exact match domain to top spot? I am currently second and wondering if it is worth the time and effort to knock it off the top spot. How hard is it to get these very annoyingly favoured domains off 1st? Any help and advice much appreciated.

Meta keywords
I heard that Google doesn't use 'meta keywords' for ranking. Is that true and does it harm to use the meta tag? And how do the other big SEs use the tag?

Keyword Difficulty Tool
Hi Mozzers! Randfishkin just posted yesterday a very nice important and helpfull post, about keyword difficulty. I will be happy, if you can write here the metrics from reports of keyword difficulty, to know more about position of our website on SERP, and to know more what to engage if someone is ranking higher than me, with same metrics of the report of keyword difficulty. It would be very nice, if we talk on this topic here about keyword difficulty how to's. Thanks
