Max Amout Of HTML Pages In A Folder
-
What's the maximum amount of html pages that one should put in a folder, to get the best SEO GoggleBot crawl? I'm aware that there's a limit of 10,000 on most servers, but was curious to know if a lesser amount of pages would be better, for crawling and indexing purposes. Also curious on peoples opinions on whether .jpg and .gif files should follow similiar rules.

Thanks for all the input. Google does seem to crawl everything these days, so I'm also in conclusion if the files fit, they'll get crawled. Sitemaps, internal links and optimized images are all a must.

For images, you want to make sure they're optimized for the web: small file sizes for easy download, but still a resolution that shows the image clearly. Your graphic designer and a good graphic design program (Photoshop, Gimp, etc.) should help with this.

Hi,
As Ray-pp said, there isn't an optimal number of pages that are going to serve you better.
However, if you want to help Google discover more about your site and pages of importances, look to create a good internal linking strategy. This doesn't mean that you should just add footer or sidebar links though - these are context links that talk about a different subject, along with a link to the appropriate page.
If you get this right, you can gain a lot in terms of Google understanding more about what you have to offer, and the links to primary pages can also lead to an increase in the SERPs for various phrases.

AFAIK there is no efficient # of files to include in a folder directory for maximum crawl effectiveness. If you folder legitimately warrants 5k html pages in a directory, then Google will crawl all the pages. Make sure to create value-added pages with high quality content - Google will recognize them and crawl them as appropriate.
If you have the options, use your Google Webmaster Tools account to adjust crawl settings. Once your site is a specific size, Google will take-over crawl rate settings for you.

Pillar pages and blog pages
Hello, I was watching this video about pillar pages https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Db3TpDZf_to and tried to apply it to my self but find it impossible to do (but maybe I am looking at it the wrong way). Let's say I want to rank on "Normandy bike tou"r. I created a pillar page about "Normandy bike tour" what would be the topics of the subpages boosting that pillar page. I know that it should be questions people have but in the tourism industry they don't have any, they just want us to make them dream !! I though about doing more general blog pages about things such as : Places to rent a bike in Normandy or in XYZ city ? ( related to biking) Or the landing sites in Normandy ? (not related to biking) Is it the way to do it, what do you recommend ? Thank you,

Does having multiple links to the same page influence the Link juice this page is able to pass
Say you have a page and it has 4 outgoing links to the same internal page. In the original Pagerank algo if these links were links to an page outside your own domain, this would mean that the linkjuice this page is able to pass would be devided by 4. The thing is i'm not sure if this is also the case when the outgoing link, is linking to a page on your own domain. I would say that outgoing links (whatever the destination) will use some of your link juice, so it would be better to have 1 outgoing link instead of 4 to the same destination, the the destination will profit more form that link. What are you're thoughts?

How do I fix the error duplicate page content and duplicate page title?
On my site www.millsheating.co.uk I have the error message as per the question title. The conflict is coming from these two pages which are effectively the same page: www.millsheating.co.uk www.millsheating.co.uk/index I have added a htaccess file to the root folder as I thought (hoped) it would fix the problem but I doesn't appear to have done so. this is the content of the htaccess file: Options +FollowSymLinks RewriteEngine On RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} ^millsheating.co.uk RewriteRule (.*) http://www.millsheating.co.uk/$1 [R=301,L] RewriteCond %{THE_REQUEST} ^[A-Z]{3,9}\ /index\.html\ HTTP/ RewriteRule ^index\.html$ http://www.millsheating.co.uk/ [R=301,L] AddType x-mapp-php5 .php

The system shows duplicate content for the same page (main domain and index.html). Is this an error of SEOMOZ?
Should I be worried that this will affect SEO? Most sites redirect to the index.html page, right? [edited by staff to remove toolbar data]

Resources for how to code pages...
I'm looking for some nuts and bolts ideas about how to best layout the HTML code for a webpage. Can you point to some case studies? Perhaps you've done some testing yourself? This could be folded into the Tom Critchlow's question about what should be included in a updated developers SEO cheat sheet.

Good category pages - do you have examples?
Hello all. Currently doing a major update to my e-commerce website which sells tractor spare parts. I would like to optimize the category pages, which feature the parts from a particular manufacture of tractor parts. Does anyone have good examples of well optimized product page which do not have a detrimental effect on the visual quality of the site? It is important to see the products. The best I have found is: http://www.simplyelectricals.co.uk/ but I sure a better solution must exist Thanks David
