How Am I Linked to These Sites?
-
I was going through Google Analytics, specifically looking at the Channels under Acquisition. I found a number of sites that Google is giving credit as sources of traffic.
When I went to the sites, however, and searched the page source for links to my site, I could not find any.My site is www.towermarketing.net.
The sites being listed by GA are:
blackhawkhardware.com
musicas.baixar-musicas-gratis.comIf anyone can tell me how Tower is getting traffic from these sites, and what I can do to fix it - because at this point I am considering them spam - I would appreciate it.
Thanks!

Many thanks Kristina!

Ah, I see.
In that case, it's possible that Google crawled these pages a while ago when they did have links to your page, and Google hasn't crawled them since.
As long as you aren't doing anything else spammy, you don't need to worry about 2 pages that Google barely crawls linking to you. If you have some other low quality links or have been penalized in the past, though, you may want to disavow these guys.
Hope that helps!

Hi Kristina,
To be honest, I am confused. We are not receiving any traffic from those sites, but Google Webmaster tools is saying that we are linked to them. I go through the source code and can't see anything suggesting that we are linked in any way.
I am just paranoid that Google will penalize our site when we actually have not done anything spammy.
-
Doesn't look like either of these pages are linking to you, although blackhawkhardware.com looks like it's updated a lot, so it could have been a link that has since been moved off the site.
Are you still getting traffic from these sites?
-
Any ideas as to how we might be linked to the particular domains?
-
One has a specific page:
musicas.baixar-musicas-gratis.com/baixar-musicas-gratis.php
The other is just the domain.
-
Is Google reporting just the main domain, or specific pages where the links are coming from?

New Site Worries
To cut a long story short, our old web developers who built us a bespoke site decided that they could no longer offer us support so we decided to move our back end to the latest Magento 2 software and move over to https with a new company. The new setup has been live for 3 weeks, I have checked in webmaster tools and it says we have 4 pages indexed, if I type in site:https://www.mydomain.com/ we have 6560 pages indexed, our robots.txt file looks like this:Sitemap: https://www.mydomain.com/sitemap.xml Sitemap: https://www.mydomain.com/sitemaps/sitemap_default.xml I use Website Auditor and Screaming Frog, Website Auditor returns a 302 for my domain and Screaming Frog returns a 403 which means I cannot scan any of these. If I check my domain using an https checking tool some sites return an error but some return a 200.

I have spoken to my new developer and he says everything is fine, in Webmaster tools I can see some redirects from his domain to mine when the site was in testing mode. I am concerned that something is not right as I always check my pages on a regular basis. Can anyone shed any light on this, is it right or am I right to be concerned. Thank you in advance0 -

Free Media Site / High Traffic / Low Engagement / Strategies and Questions
Hi, Imagine a site "mediapalooza dot com" where the only thing you do there is view free media. Yet Google Analytics is showing the average view of a media page is about a minute; where the average length of media is 20 - 90 minutes. And imagine that most of this media is "classic" and that it is generally not available elsewhere. Note also that the site ranks terribly in Google, despite having decent Domain Authority (in the high 30's), Page Authority in the mid 40's and a great site and otherwise quite active international user base with page views in the tens of thousands per month. Is it possible that GA is not tracking engagement (time on site) correctly? Even accounting for the imperfect method of GA that measures "next key pressed" as a way to terminate the page as a way to measure time on page, our stats are truly abysmal, in the tenths of a percentage point of time measured when compared with actual time we think the pages are being used. If so, will getting engagement tracking to more accurately measure time on specif pages and site signal Google that this site is actually more important than current ranking indicates? There's lots of discussion about "dwell time" as this relates to ranking, and I'm postulating that if we can show Google that we have extremely good engagement instead of the super low stats that we are reporting now, then we might get a boost in ranking. Am I crazy? Has anyone got any data that proves or disproves this theory? as I write this out, I detect many issues - let's have a discussion on what else might be happening here. We already know that low engagement = low ranking. Will fixing GA to show true engagement have any noticeable impact on ranking? Can't wait to see what the MOZZERS think of this!

Google Analytics VS target="_blank" internal links: How much wrong is it?
I am working on an e-commerce website, and our CEO is sure that having target="_blank" in internal search result is boosting the conversion (not sure, but it's not an issue at the moment). The problem is that Google Analytics sees all URLs visited from search results as entrances/direct visits, hence the Booking Funnel Tracking does not work as it was supposed to. Is there any way to recover the tracking? Or we shall get the rid of target="_blank" attribute?

Redirects to external sites
Hi there, I have listings that all link to external sites. In order to track how many times each link was clicked I coded a redirect script that simply redirects to the respective url. www.mysite.com/go/123/ - redirects to another site www.mysite.com/go/541/ - redirects to a different site Is there anything I should or should not do from seo stand point such as blocking the /go directory in robots or adding a no-follow tag to links? I'd appreciate your advice. Thanks

I only have 65 extrernal links after 8 months of link building?
I am currently employing an SEO consultant who has been carrying out link building for the past 8 months. having signed up to SEOmoz i noticed that i only have 65 external links when my competitors have 13,000+. My consultant gave me a list of over 300 links he has putting into place but SEOmoz only shows 65. What I am concerned about is why I have only so few and where the others have gone? And how do i catch up to my competitors and put a proper (better) strategy in place.

.com version and .org version of site
So i just discovered that a site I now managae has a .com version - as well as the .org version that is the one everyone knows about! I'm guessing this is not a good thing... So the whole site eg www.abc.org/example has a mirror page www.abc.com/example.... What should I do about this? Is it really bad to have 2 versions out there? Thanks!
