What the secret for Bing and Yahoo
-
I guess you guys will probably think me a complete airhead, but I've been so focused on obtaining traffic from Google that I completely forgot about Bing and Yahoo.
Moz Analytics shows that 99% of my organic traffic comes from Google, 1% from Bing (up by 67% from last week!?) and 0% from Yahoo and baidu.
Just wanted to check a couple of things.
- Is this poor performance due to any lack on my behalf
- Or are these search engines used?
I'm kind of thinking that if I can obtain multiple page one phrases with Google;
- why isn't this replicated by the other search engines?
- And if there are opportunities available how do I optimise my pages for them
- And if I do, will this affect my Google rankings
Cheers in advance, Lee

Lets see, I submitted, if it works then all the better
Trying something new from today, read an article by Eric Enge and Mark Traphagen about the effects of personalising posts. My blog posts are well read by people in my industry, but there's a distinct lack of engagement i.e. comments, so I've added an image of myself to half of my articles so I can track the results, hopefully get more shares and some comments - though a pic of me is likely to scare people off lol.
As always ur a star

I did, I am so excited for you. I followed you back too.
Most of the time IE is set with Bing as the homepage. So if the user doesn't change it, then I would suspect the a good percentage of users in IE come from Bing. But you can check that in GA.
I think my target demographic is just older, it can't hurt to submit to Bing. You want to get traffic from everywhere possible. I doubt that some of my customers know how to restart their computers, let alone update their browser. I get about 50 sessions per month from IE 6 even. It makes me chuckle.

Thanks guys, have submitted as you both suggested, lets see if it makes a difference.
@Monica - "I die a little inside every time I tell someone that." hahaha
Also I wonder if all Bing users user IE?
A little hesitant to submit to bing as my software isn't that great with older versions of IE, best bounce comes from IE 11 (33%) all others are between 60 and 90%. IE6 is 100%, though fortunatley IE11 accounts for 76% of all visits.
ps Did you see my other post on social? Followed your advice and saw a 750% increase in social traffic

Generally, what is good for Google is also good for Bing and Yahoo. Since Firefox has adapted Yahoo as its primary search engine and IE uses Bing it really depends on where your traffic comes from. Believe it or not, I get the same amount of traffic from Bing that I do from Google. My target demographic is older than your average shopper however. To explain that more thoroughly, I still get 28% of my traffic from IE 7.... I die a little inside every time I tell someone that.
If you want to rank well in Bing and Yahoo, then do what you need to do in Google. Follow the best practice SEO. Bing Webmaster tools isn't nearly as thorough as GWT, but it can give you some insight to what you might be missing link wise. I would check that out. I find that a more analytical, technical group comes from Bing. Since you are in Software you might find some success with traffic from Bing.

That is pretty odd that you are not getting traffic from Bing and Yahoo, as general SEO work for Google should also effect other search engines. The first thing you should do is make sure that your site has been submitted to both and they have the location of your sitemap and robots.

Is Bing also ignoring meta Keywords tags?
Hi, I originally asked about pros (or lack of them) when it comes to using meta keywords tags here https://moz.com/community/q/importance-or-lack-of-meta-keywords-tags-and-tags-in-drupal. It was most likely related to Google, I guess. Is that the same if it comes to Bing as few sources are not sure how this SERP consider using meta keywords tags and people only speculating. Anyone has any kind of "confirmed" responses or experience? Thank you in advance.

How do you think metatag author will change with google uncoupling them. Will they still affect bing?
With google removing the metag author functionality how do you think metatag author will be used if at all. will functionality change? will it have any use? and should resources being used to implement it? Secondly, will bing utilize it in some way much like they use keywords as a negative signal.

Why am I ranking on both Bing and Yahoo and yet the rankings are declining on Google
I'm seeing ranking go up on both Bing and Yahoo and yet they are going down on Google. I did see a bunch of spammy links show up about a month ago but have managed to get all those taken down although did not get any warnings from Google in Webmaster tools about them was more of a preemptive measure. The site in question. http://www.gocitrusnow.com

Google Indexed = 35, 445 pages, Bing Indexed = 243 pages... Why?
Dear MozSquad, Can anyone check our site and let me know if there's anything super apparent that would cause Bing to treat us like a bum on the street? I recently made some structural changes which really helped with Google, but Bing didn't even budge. It's a lot harder to keep up with all the SEO initiatives I have in mind with it being a small start-up where I'm responsible for planning the entire Internet Marketing campaign, giving constant input on UX and site design, etc on top of 900 other things, so I figured it'd be a good time to use The Moz to help a brother out. Ideas? Domain: homeandgardendesignideas.com (yeah, I know it's a little long =P)

Google vs. Bing
We are having some really good results with our SEO strategies for local search and long tail searches for our clients on Google; however, Bing is a completely different story in a couple of cases. What is Bing looking for that Google is not? We have even noticed that something may rank well in Bing then not show up at all in Google? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Google VS Yahoo VS Bing & Onpage Optimization in 2011
I was just wondering if someone could point out to me any known differences between these three search engines. I feel like i have been spending a lot of time optimizing for google, but don't have much of an idea of how to optimize for yahoo or bing. Do you have any up-to date article links or tips/advice?
