Snippets on every page considered duplicate content?
-
If I create a page that pulls a 10 snippets of information from various external site, would that content be considered duplicate content?
If I link to the source, would it be recommended to use a "nofollow" tag?

All from external sites,

Many of the" local" style generic and niche directories use this approach. Many travel sites lean heavily on this model as well. Sites pull in a number of related clusters of content including
-Points of interest
-Related stores in area
-Weather
-Reviews
-Comments
-Information aggregated from the Internet and published in a 'meaningful' way (subjective of course to the user)Hope this helps.

Do you have examples of sites that use the mashup approach successfully?
-
Will the entire page be just those ten snippets from external sites, or will there be any unique content on the pages at all?
-
The answer is really "it depends"
Ultimately it depends on a large number of things, a few of which are:
-The number of inbound links to the website and to pages of the website
-The authority of the website
-The value and presentation of snippets on the page.
the type of content being presented
-The source of the content snippets and number of times it is being used on other websites. There seems to be various thresholds for duplicate content. Certainly the more authority websites utilize this "mashup" approach quite successfully, while others fail and are subsequently largely filtered off in the SERPs.

Why are my pages getting duplicate content errors?
Studying the Duplicate Page Content report reveals that all (or many) of my pages are getting flagged as having duplicate content because the crawler thinks there are two versions of the same page: http://www.mapsalive.com/Features/audio.aspx http://www.mapsalive.com/Features/Audio.aspx The only difference is the capitalization. We don't have two versions of the page so I don't understand what I'm missing or how to correct this. Anyone have any thoughts for what to look for?

E-Commerce Duplicate Content
Hello all We have an e-commerce website with approximately 3,000 products. Many of the products are displayed in multiple categories which in turn generates a different URL! 😞 Accross the entire site I have noticed that the product pages are always outranked by competitors who have lower page authority, domain authority, total links etc etc. I am convinced this is down to duplicate content issues. I understand there is no direct penalty but how would this affect our rankings? Is page rank split between all the duplicates, which in turn lowers it's ranking potential? I have looked for a way to identify duplicate content using Google analytics but i've been unsuccessful. If the duplicate content is the issue and page rank is divided am i best using canonical or 301 redirects? Sorry if this is an obvious question but If i'm correct we could see a huge improvement in rankings accross the board. Wow! Cheers Todd
