Anything I'm missing as my page just donst seem to rank
-
I am wandering if anyone can offer any suggestions, we have a page on our site https://www.wilsonfield.co.uk/insolvency-advice/liquidation/ this page is optimised to rank for liquidation however no matter how many links or how optimised the page is it just will not show in the SERPS. Moz gives it a page score of A we have built relevant links directly to the page using appropriate anchor text, have social likes and concentrated of getting more google+ likes. We run a detailed Moz SERP report comparing the above url to the top 10 ranked pages and we are looking competitive if not better on all ranking factors. This is now really frustrating that we arnt even in the top 100 and cant understand why.
we have the https version of the site also submitted to webmaster tools and www is set to be the prefered.
Has anyone got any ideas as to why google just dosnt like our site, we have no crawl errors we use all best practices.

I would tell you MD about over optimisation, there is nothing natural at all about creating tons of content all about one keyword "liquidation"... maybe you are trying to hard. Sometimes our SEO skills are our own worst enemy as we fill in all the cracks and make everything perfect and Google turns around and says "this is too perfect".
Turn his focus to conversions/goals and away from a keyword you will likely not hit for a while. Rather try get your users into your conversion funnel and to the products/services that are important. As Ray-pp mentioned, if your MD wants instant results he needs to put money into Google AdWords.
On a side note, if we are talking about the "wilsonfield.co.uk" website and you want to have good ranking on the word "Liquidation" then the word needs to be in the home page title towards the front of the title:
HOME PAGE
Not Optimised for Liquidation : Business Recovery, Insolvency & Personal Debt -Trust Wilson Field
Optimised for Liquidation: Liquidation | Business Recovery | Insolvency And Personal Debt -Trust Wilson Field
Then, on your Liquidation page the title should be:LIQUIDATION PAGE
Not Optimised for Liquidation : Liquidation does not have to mean the end of your business!
Optimised for Liquidation: Liquidation | Company Compulsory And Voluntary LiquidationHope that helps, will not get you first but you will jump quite a lot.

thanks Karl and Ray
Im totally with you guys and have been presenting conversion data showing that in the last three months other keywords around liquidation have generated over 120 conversions leading to 32 actual liquidation jobs all worth £5k+ each and every time he just shoots it all down saying its good but he wants more and liquidation on page one. and no matter how many times i exceed my KPIs it always comes back to this keyword ranking
like you say ray we do produce a lot of content around liquidation all linked to that page and then syndicated out. I hate using the terms used all the tricks up my sleeve but im running out of things to look at to improve our rank, we are currently 188 in the SERPs

and all my MD cares about in being page one for liquidation
Wow, talk about setting unrealistic expectations. Your MD needs to understand that you sometimes cannot just set a keyword target and expect to rank for that term. Over 50% of the time, Google thinks the user's intent when searching for 'liquidation' isn't even related to your website, it's related to ecommerce transactions. Why would Google rank your insolvency related liquidation resource when they believe the user is searching for wholesale ecommerce products?
I think you should try and adjust their mindset to understand that not everyone searching for liquidation is looking for the information you've provided.
With that said, if you want to rank for 'liquidation' it is going to take a hell of a lot more than looking at your on-page SEO efforts and pointing to that one article as a resource. You better get ready to start creating tens, if not hundreds, of liquidation related, high quality content resources and point them all to one fantastic page. You may even want to consider a niche liquidation website with a targeted domain, navigation architecture, and link portfolio dedicated just to liquidation related terms.
If he wants front page 'liquidation' exposure that badly, consider AdWords
-
Do you have any conversion events or conversion tracking in place? Any way to look in your analytics or paid advertising and show the boss that "hey, people coming in that searched for 'liquidation' have fewer page views, lower conversion, and higher bounce rate than those who come in for '[specific term] liquidation"? Because you'll get people who are searching for information for physics class, people who are searching for sales happening at a local mall, etc.

our domain age again is something that the seo tools says out performs our competitors. We use Market Samuri to gather that data
-
"Has anyone got any ideas as to why google just dosnt like our site,..."
She choosey, choosey.
How old is your website? Sometimes it's hard to outrank sites that have been on good positions for years.

thanks Ray
We do look at ranking for broader terms and rank for those. I unfortunatly can rank number 1 for hundreds and all my MD cares about in being page one for liquidation. I cannot change his mind set no matter how much traffic we get he is not happy because when he types liquidation we do not rank
-
My first reaction is for you to get more specific when you look at ranking results. 'liquidiation' is an extremely broad term, would be very competitive, and you'd be more successful trying to rank for the specific type of liquidation your site is speaking to.
Have you searched other key terms and see if you've ranked well?
Suggestions:
'company liquidation'
'how to liquidate a company'
'financial insolvency'

Page ranked then disappeared
Recently there have been a a couple of pages form my website that ranked well, in top 5 for a couple of days then they disappear suddenly, they are not at all seen in google search results no matter how narrow I search for them. I checked my search console, there seems to be no issues with the page, but when I check google analytics, I do not get any data from that page since the day it disappeared, and it does not even show up on the 'active pages' section no matter I keep the url open in multiple computers.

Any SEO-wizards out there who can tell me why Google isn't following the canonicals on some pages?
Hi, I am banging my head against the wall regarding the website of a costumer: In "duplicate title tags" in GSC I can see that Google is indexing a whole bunch parametres of many of the url's on the page. When I check the rel=canonical tag, everything seems correct. My costumer is the biggest sports retailer in Norway. Their webshop has approximately 20 000 products. Yet they have more than 400 000 pages indexed by Google. So why is Google indexing pages like this? What is missing in this canonical?https://www.gsport.no/herre/klaer/bukse-shorts?type-bukser-334=regnbukser&order=price&dir=descWhy isn't Google just cutting off the ?type-bukser-334=regnbukser&order=price&dir=desc part of the url?Can it be the canonical-tag itself, or could the problem be somewhere in the CMS? Looking forward to your answers Sigurd

Fetch and Render misses middle chunk of page
Hey folks, I was checking out a site with the Search Console's "Fetch and Render" function and found something potentially worrisome. A big chunk of the middle of the page (the homepage) shows up as empty space in the preview render window. The site isn't doing so hot in terms of rankings, and I'm wondering if this issue is causing it (since it could indicate that 80% of the copy on the homepage is invisible to Google) A few other details: The specific content isn't showing in either view. Both the "What Google sees" and "What the visitor sees" are missing this chunk of the page The content IS visible in cached versions of the page The html for the content seems to be in the The "Fetch" part returns "Complete" as opposed to "Partial" so I don't THINK it's a matter of javascript stuff getting blocked by robots.txt This website was built using the Wordpress theme "Suco" and the parts of the page that aren't rendering are all built with the Themify Builder tool Not ALL of the Themify Builder elements are showing up as blank. There's a slider element that's rendering just fine Any ideas on what could cause whole portions of a page not to show up in Fetch and Render? Thanks!

Creating in-text links with ' 'target=_blank' - helping/hurting SEO!?!
Good Morning Mozzers, I have a question regarding a new linking strategy I'm trying to implement at my organization. We publish 'digital news magazines' that oftentimes have in-text links that point to external sites. More recently, the editorial department and me (SEO) conferred on some ways to reduce our bounce rate and increase time on page. One of the suggestions I offered is to add the 'target=_blank" attribute to all the links so that site visitors don't necessarily have to leave the site in order to view the link. It has, however, come to my attention that this can have some very negative effects on my SEO program, most notably, (fake or inaccurate) time(s) on-page. Is this an advisable way to create in-text links? Are there any other negative effects that I can expect from implementing such a strategy?

Handling 301s: Multiple pages to a single page (consolidation)
Been scouring the interwebs and haven't found much information on redirecting two serparate pages to a single new page. Here is what it boils down to: Let's say a website has two pages, both with good page authority of products that are becoming fazed out. The products, Widget A and Widget B, are still popular search terms, but they are being combined into ONE product, Widget C. While Widget A and Widget B STILL have plenty to do with Widget C, Widget C is now the new page, the main focus page, and the page you want everyone to see and Google to recognize. Now, do I 301 Widget A and Widget B pages to Widget C, ALTHOUGH Widgets A and B previously had nothing to do with one another? (Remember, we want to try and keep some of that authority the two page have had.) OR do we keep Widget A and Widget B pages "alive", take them off the main navigation, and then put a "disclaimer" on the pages announcing they are now part of Widget C and link to Widget C? OR Should Widgets A and B page be canonicalized to Widget C? Again, keep in mind, widgets A and B previously were not similar, but NOW they are and result in Widget C. (If you are confused, we can provide a REAL work example of what we are talkinga about, but decided to not be specific to our industry for this.) Appreciate any and all thoughts on this.

My Domain Authority is high but don't rank in serps
So i'm a beginner/intermediate SEO and uptil about 3 weeks ago i enjoyed Top 3 rankings for all my keywords(VIrtual Assistant,Virtual Assistants, Virtual Personal Assistant,Virtual Personal Assistants and so on) for my site www.247VirtualAssistant.com. All of a sudden i dropped in rankings and can't figure out why. I ran a link analysis and nothing looks like it changed, in fact i still command much higher domain authority than my competition, but i'm stuck on the bottom of the 2nd page. I can't tell if i'm being penalized, if the other sites all of sudden just outperformed me or something else is happening here. I've also noticed a lot of "dancing" in my serps, I've been in 2nd last position on the 2nd page, then 1st of the third page, then last on the 2nd page and so on. Can someone please help me make sense of this?? Thanks! Thomas, a very confused an desperate website owner

Switching ecommerce CMS's - Best Way to write URL 301's and sub pages?
Hey guys, What a headache i've been going through the last few days trying to make sure my upcoming move is near-perfect. Right now all my urls are written like this /page-name (all lowercase, exact, no forward slash at end). In the new CMS they will be written like this: /Page-Name/ (with the forward slash at the end). When I generate an XML sitemap in the new ecomm CMS internally it lists the category pages with a forward slash at the end, just like they show up through out the CMS. This seems sloppy to me, but I have no control over it. Is this OK for SEO? I'm worried my PR 4, well built ecommerce website is going to lose value to small (but potentially large) errors like this. If this is indeed not good practice, is there a resource about not using the forward slash at the end of URLS in sitemaps i can present to the community at the platform? They are usually real quick to make fixes if something is not up to standards. Thanks in advance, -First Time Ecommerce Platform Transition Guy
