A new website issue
-
Hello everybody,
I have started a new website 22 days ago at the beginning of this month and i have long articles. I think this should make the site appear in search results for long tail keywords even if they are not very relevant but as you can see in the attached image from my webmaster tools the impression count has suddenly increased to 100 then significantly decreased again. Even when i cancel "filter" option. Is this normal for a 3 weeks old website? or there is something i have to check? thanks. -
Hello Ali & welcome to the Moz community!
There could be many factors influencing your SERPs position, especially for a new website. Since your site is new, Google is just learning about its content and performance. It could be that your article came up high in the SERPs and then Google noticed some significant pogo-sticking and lowered its rankings.
Have you checked the behavior metrics of the traffic that came through that day? I also suggest adding the term that sent you traffic to Moz's keyword tracking tool so you can monitor its SERPs progress and see how Google is adjusting the rankings.

Thanks for the question! The simple answer is that your website is too young to make any definitive conclusions. Three weeks is nowhere near enough time to know for sure what Google "thinks" about your website.
Whenever a company does something "new" -- create a website, publish a new piece of content, get a batch of new backlinks, and so on -- it will usually get a quick boost in rankings (and search-result impressions, as you mention) simply because it is new and fresh in Google's eyes. However, that exposure will lessen over time as the "newness" wears off. So, one answer is that it's crucial to keep the site "fresh" as much as possible.
But remember: SEO is a marathon, not a race. Rankings, impressions, and traffic will rise and fall on a daily or weekly basis. But the key is to keep them increasing over the long term in general -- think monthly, quarterly, and yearly, like the stock market. If you see the results going up over the long term, then you know you're doing the right thing. Anything good takes time to be successful. Nothing good comes quickly.

Delay to rank for authority website versus new website
Hello, I have a website that has been existing for years. How long does it take if I have a good content on a page for it to rank ? I read here and that that it can take 4 to 6 months but it never says if it is for a brand new website or a old website that has an authority and some links. I also read that some people publish content and rank within a week on competitive keywords. So who is right, what is there to read in between the lines ?

Will Schema help my website?
I'm doing SEO on a website, zing.co.nz, which is a soon to launch company. At the moment there is a splash sight up, which will be replaced by the real sight in a few weeks upon launch. Is it worth me putting in Schemas (for the first time) so that it is recognized as an organization? Will this effect us in the serps? Thanks for your help 🙂

How to structure articles on a website.
Hi All, Key to a successful website is quality content - so the Gods of Google tell me. Embrace your audience with quality feature rich articles on your products or services, hints and tips, how to, etc. So you build your article page with all the correct criteria; Long Tail Keyword or phrases hitting the URL, heading, 1st sentance, etc. My question is this
Intermediate & Advanced SEO | | Mark_Ch
Let's say you have 30 articles, where would you place the 30 articles for SEO purposes and user experiences. My thought are:
1] on the home page create a column with a clear heading "Useful articles" and populate the column with links to all 30 articles.
or
2] throughout your website create link references to the articles as part of natural information flow.
or
3] Create a banner or impact logo on the all pages to entice your audience to click and land on dedicated "articles page" Thanks Mark0 -

Dupicated Site Issues?
We are launching a new site for the Australian market and the URL will just be siteAU.com. Currently the tech team (before we came on board) has it setup with almost exactly the same content (including the site css/nav/structure etc). Some product page content is slightly different, and category pages have different product orders, plus there are location pages that are specific to AU, but otherwise it's the same. The original site: site.ca has been around for 6+ years, with several thousand pages and solid organic ranking (though the last few months have dropped ) Will the new AU site create issues for the original domain? We also have siteUSA.com which follows the same logic and has been live for a while.
