Google not displaying meta description
-
Hi,
one of my clients is receiving the following error in SERP - "A description of the page is not available because of this site's robots.txt".
The site is built on WordPress and I realized that by default, the settings were checked to blocks bots from crawling the site. So, I turned it off, fixed robots.txt and submitted the sitemap again. Since, then it's been almost 10 days, the problem still exists.
Can anyone tell me what should be done to fix it or if there's a way to get Google to recrawl the pages again.

Hi Mayank,
Use the fetch tool listed above to see what URL's are being blocked. If any, it maybe it is just taking Google some time to get things indexed for you.

I have fixed robots.txt, have submitted fresh sitemap to the webmaster. the problem still exists.
Also, when i look for webmaster >> Google Index >> Index Status >> Total indexed are 896 and Blocked by Robots are 626. The numbers have got better, but very slow. I don't think pages are blocked by Robots any more. Not sure what can be done about it.

Don is correct. In GWT you'll be able to fetch as Google and see the results of your changes. Another thing that can help crawl the page would be making sure the site has at least a few inbound links, but Don's answer should have you covered in the near term.

Mobile Meta Descriptions?
Hi Guys, We have two different versions of each page for both desktop and mobile example: http://tinyurl.com/zkxlxax http://tinyurl.com/zelqcbv We want to create meta descriptions for both versions. However in the CMS (http://www.mantistech.com.au/ecommerce_website_package.aspx) it only allows one meta description. Example: http://s21.postimg.org/ar8bzrh3r/screenshot_1804.jpg Does anyone know anyway around this? To add two different meta descriptions and tell Google which one to use based on device type. Thanks.

Does Google read code as is or as rendered?
Question - Does Google read code as is or as rendered? So for example, with a Facebook Like box, it has all the profile pictures of people...will Google see these as all separate links or ignore them?

Improve change my Meta Description shows in SERP
I feel my meta descriptions are descriptive and fairly represent the info on each page of my site. However, Google frequently includes this "20+ items" in front of the snippet. I run a job site and each page list 20 jobs. What if I include a bit of coding in the Meta Description to include "Latest Jobs Posted TODAY's DATE" - since the jobs listed on the page will include a date. On each page there is also option to "Create Email Alert" and "save Jobs" maybe I should include writing about that as well? I have read all Google's documents on the importance of making Meta Des relevant for the page etc, so any good insight how increase my chances of getting the meta des displayed in the SERP would be appreciated. thank you, Kristian

Is Google mad at me for redirecting...?
Hi, I have an e-commerce website that sells unique items (one of a kind). We have hundreds of items and the items are rapidly sold. Up till now I kept the sold items under our "sold items" section but it started to get back at me as we have more "sold" than non sold and we are having duplication problems (the items are quite similar besides to sizes etc.). What should we do? Should we redirect 100 pages each week? Will Google be upset with that? (for driving it crazy) Thanks

Google Places - How do we rank
So, google places showing up on search results is great feature . . . But how can we get our results to the top? I mean I can see some terrible websites appearing at the top of the google places with their places page having no activity whatsoever. Is there a trick to this at all? What can we do to increase our ranking on Google Places because our old GOOD rankings are now appearing BELOW the map results Cheers
