Rel="canonical" Wordpress 2015 Best Practice

There are forum posts about how to insert rel="canonical" tags in Wordpress, but I've read about lots of changes in this space recently (updates to Yoast, for example).
I'm having a problem with duplicate content on one of my sites, and it seems to be coming from multiple indexes of the same pages. I'll have a blog post show up under the posts, then the archives, then the tags.
So, my question is, in early 2015, what are the current best practices for adding rel="canonical" tags in Wordpress?

Hi Tim,
Are you using the Yoast Seo plugin? If so a lot of things including canonical tag settings can be sorted out there. I don't think much has changed in terms of wp optimisation in 2015 - best practices from the past continue to be best practices now. From your description it sounds like maybe the problem isn't the canonical tag so much as your url (permalink) structure and/or the indexing of your archive and tag pages. Yoast has a good rundown on best practices in regards permalinks and general wp seo here and Dan Shure wrote a good blog post here on Moz which includes a good explanation of why and how to noindex certain pages (like archives and tags). The blog post is from a few years back, but all of the best practices he mentions remain valid.

IMG TITLE no longer used in Wordpress?
Err, when did this happen? Although you can still enter a Title in the WP image library, when inserting into a post the Title tag is not implemented. Alt text is there OK but not Title. There was a plugin around that restored this basic seo functionality but it's no longer available. I mean - honestly!

Tracking down rel="canonical" on Wordpress site
A rel="canonical" is being added to every page and post on my Wordpress site - not tag results, not category results. Not a major problem, right? Except that I don't know where it's coming from. I've tried tracking it down - change the theme back to a default one, turn off all the plugins - it's still there. Is it coming from .htaccess perhaps? The only issue it is causing is that it has causes me to have to turn off the canonical option in Platinum SEO as that was resulting in two identical rel=canon on each page. It doesn't seem to be causing problem but I'd like to get a better understanding of what it going on.

Best way for navigation, niche E-commerce
Hi community friends. Ive have started to work on our 2.0 e-commerce store mostly when it comes to design and the ux. Its a woocommerce setup and in total we have 34 products! We have e niche site where we sell products as a system towards the building industry. Each product served its purpose within a construction detail and needs some explanation for a first time user/customer. So, first thing we did now was to ad the short description to our loop to bring some more info to the user and guide them in the right direction quick. Now the products are divided in to four categories. We actually gain a lot of traffic from those category landing pages and i am not so eager to change the way the products are categorised. The old menu where built up by a sidebar with links to the different categories and to tags pages. Where the category where for example "Adhesive" and the Tag "Seal a window from the outside". The category gives the broader direction, and the tag gives the final usage/solution/purpose with the product. In the 2.0 we would like to remove the sidebar in the product pages in favor for a full widht product page with more focus on the product and the specs. This leads us to put our navigation up in the main menu part for the desktop version. Now to the questions. 1. Do you think that we are doing it the right way, to niche and set the final usage/path to our products with tags, or should it be done in another way? 2. For the UX, do you think that removing the sidebar navigation on the product pages will lead to a worse user/shopping experience? Product Colour Variation and Canonicals
Hi there, We are currently doing an SEO audit of an ecommerce website and we ar eunsure on the best practice in terms of using canonical link tag for some product variations. An example is that the company has a product with two colour variations: Black and Tan. These are for the same product and have 99% the same content. Within the content of the page the colour is the only thing that changes (along with the meta information and imagery of course). My question is should we choose one product and canonically link back to that one i.e. Black is the main product and we link Tan back to this via a canonical link? Many thanks in advance.

Yoast Sitemap Best Practices
I'm using the Yoast SEO plugin and I've never really known the correct answer to this question or which factors you should consider when choosing, but can someone give me some advice on which post types and taxonomies to exclude when generating the sitemap using this plugin. I know this is probably unique to each site, but can someone share what criteria they weigh when choosing which ones to exclude for their own site?

I built a website on magentogo - IrisScottPrints.com. The seomoz crawl report states 301 rel canonical crawl notices. What if anything should I change?
Wondering if I should remove "IRIS SCOTT PRINTS |" from all the title tags and/or change the url structure of the pages, to not include the breadcrumbs... I don't really understand the whole rel canonical structure thing. Also lots of errors on page title too long - does that really matter? Lots of faith in everyone here. Thanks in advance. Marcia
