Is CDN Good For International Website?
-
Hello - Which solution is better For International Website: 1) using a CDN, or 2) using some VPS's in each location?
-
It would sure help to get more specifics on the geographical area you intend to serve and the amount of traffic you expect. Where is your app/db server(s) and what kind of hardware will you be running? What kind of data will you be serving?
Generally speaking, CDNs are built to scale to high traffic loads with low latency and high availability. A VPS would need to be configured for the type of data being served and would need to be constantly and consistently monitored for performance, whereas a CDN could be considered more of a set-it-and-forget-it service, granted you've built your application to utilize it properly.
My best answer for you is to go with a CDN. The only case I could see you wanting to use a VPS is if it's cheaper and you server load is known and constant.

I've seen both, usually VPS targets a specific country / area and the company using it tries to get one as close as possible to that area. For less specific international targeting CDN tends to be a good balance. Still a lot of sites use both to speed up javascript, imagery, etc. as much as possible while also having a server close to a big user base.

SEO and Internal Pages
Howdy Moz Fans (quoting Rand), I have a weird issue. I have a site dedicated to criminal defense. When you Google some crimes, the homepage comes up INSTEAD of the internal page directly related to that type of crime. However, on other crimes, the more relevant internal page appears. Obviously, I want the internal page to appear when a particular crime is Googled and NOT the homepage. Does anyone have an explanation why this happens? FYI: I recently moved to WP and used a site map plugin that values the internal pages at 60% (instead of Weebly, which has an auto site map that didn't do that). Could that be it? I have repeatedly submitted the internal pages via GWT, but nothing happens. Thanks.

301 Redirect from now defunct website?
Hi guys Quick question about 301 redirection between domains. I currently manage a website, lets call it website A. Website A sells a particular product range, however the decision has been made by the powers that be to pull the plug on the business and sell the products previously sold via Website A via another website within the parent companies control.....lets call it Website B. I need to make it clear to customers of Website A that the company no longer operates but want to pass the SEO equity that has been built up over time to the relevant pages on Website B. My plan was to 1. 301 Redirect all key landing pages on Website A to the most relevant pages on Website B 2. Initially keep the website A homepage live but change the message to say "Website A no longer operates, but Website B can help etc. etc." Remove all sub links from navigation. 3. Monitor referral and direct traffic levels and consider 301 redirecting website A homepage to Website B homepage in the long term. My questions: Does this sound like the best approach? If not, what alternatives are there? Will Website A look like a link farm for Website B? I dont want this obviously!

International SEO and Server Hosting
I am quite new to international SEO. I have a customer who wants to use the same website content on various domains targeting different countries. Such as; xxxx.hk - same content targeting Hong Kong xxxx.co.uk - same content targeting UK xxxx.de - same content targeting Germany I found that it could be possible with the Google suggested hreflang without any duplicate content problem. Is that true? Could someone explain this for me. Another question; if above is true do we need to make other adjustments as well. Such as; Any adjustments in Google Webmaster Tools (for each domain) Server location, does that really make a difference? Can we host each of the domains on the same server or should we seperate them and host each one on the country it is targeting ? Thanks in advance!

Guest Posting Good or Too Spammed in 2013
Hi, Some of the Gurus and Associates have indicated that guest posting is the "Directories of today." There are some posts from last year about this in the Q&A, but what is the most recent thought if guest posting on quality sites should be avoided? Thanks.

Optimising a Dynamic website ?
A client has bought the Nostalgia wp theme. I've installed Yoast but because the website is ajax based and the content for the pages are dynamically loaded the plugin won't work. Or at least not to my knowledge? The developer doesn't currently have a solution, which from previous expereience it will never be supported. So I need some possible solutions here. Create a mobile site? Cons more time, more money etc Create non dynamic pages linked in footer area. Cons page duplication etc. It's a small niche so having the basic elements is imperative to getting it ranking.

What type of links should be followed and nofollowed internally?
We have submitted our sitemap.xml to search engines so now that they have that should we use a nofollow attribute on the sitemap.html? Do we even need a sitemap.html? For other links on the site such as: Contact us About Us Locations and other phrases that we are not trying to rank for should we set these to nofollow?

Google Adsense Good for SEO?
Is there any merit to the statement that Google will give some SEO value to sites that display Adsense? Or is there absolutely no SEO value for or against a site that displays Adsense Ads? Clearly, it would benefit Google's finance to give at least a small boost to sites that display Adsense, but do they do it? My guess is no, but I'm wondering ...

Effects on SEO with CDN
Should we be concerned about any adverse consequences to our site's SEO value when moving the site's assets (javascript files and css files) to a CDN (Akamai)?
