Backlink, how to delete or find who is linking to me?
-
Hi there guys,
Can someone tell me how I go about finding who is linking to my site or how to find backlinks to my site and if it is a spam site or a site I don't know or want linking to me, how to stop them from linking to me and also how to delete their link?
Thanks appreciate the time
Cheers

Hi Richard,
Thanks for the advice. Yes I just got the hand of using OSE I just didn't understand if this is something I need to watch. I have just launched our new platform and basically I have an SEO company on board but don't seem to be producing the goods, I find I get alot more from Moz.
I haven't been hit with a penalty, but I know our competitor of ours has, and it seems to be from spammy backlinks as noted by someone at moz. I'm just curious to know if this should happen to me, I would rather try to avoid the same situation from happening to us. Any advice around how to go about avoiding this, or how we can eliminate the potential would be much appreciated.
Cheers

Hi Chris661
Thanks for your response, definitely helped. I'm new to all this and have just launched my custom platform, I have contracted and SEO company but not so sure if they are producing the goods. I am aware of our competitors who have been penalised from spam back links to which I wanted to do more research around this to make sure we had stuff in place to avoid the same issue. When I looked at all their back links through OSE after contacting the moz support, it showed as Richard said, all the domains, links that were pointing to the site. As a newbie trying to understand what the process is around this kind of situation. It seems anyone can really point to your site so wondering how do we monitor links pointing to our site, and once we have detected the link, is it just a matter of contacting the web master and asking google to disavow?

LinkPatrol is meant for controlling outgoing links, not inbound ones. It could still be useful on a WordPress site / blog of considerable size, though.
-
As the other guys have said but also you have the option to disavow the whole domain if you have many "bad" links from the same domain,
I pulled the company i work for out on a G penalty last year and i contacted all the webmasters (even though no response) and just saved a screen shot and that was enough for Google for that link, So i would suggest keeping a screen shot of your contact just in case for future reference that you need it and then disavow it

If you consider the link as toxic, before using disavow tool from Google, I would first try to contact the webmaster, sometimes this help to me

I heard about linkpatrolwp.com as well. May be you can check if that actually works.

As Richard says you can use OSE right here! Also you can see links in GWMT. Ahrefs and Majestic are also great resources. Tools like Link Detox or Link Risk are also available and claim to help you determine if the link is bad. Although the best resource for that is you. Because you will know if this was a "manipulated" link. These automated tools may have false positives for links that might actually be helping your site. But again, you will be the best judge of that.
You can't really delete a link but can request it be removed through the webmaster or disavow it in GWMT. I think Richard gives great advice however when he points out that if you haven't had a penalty in the past, you may be better off not worrying about using the disavow tool. If you are in the group of us who have been penalized in the past, you might consider proactive disavow with Google.
Best!

I'm not sure I completely understand your question, but if your trying to identify the source of your inbound links use the Open Site Explorer tool. It will give the source of the incoming link, the page it's linking to, plus the domain and page authority of the linking site.
Removing links is a bit more complicated. You can use the disavow tool located in Google Webmaster Tools to unclaim these links. Unless you've been hit with a penalty or have engaged in some questionable back link building schemes, I would not mess with disavowing any links.
Hope that helps, best of luck

Can affiliate links affect DA?
Hey guys, over the past two months my DA has gone down from 17 to 12, and I have no dura what could have caused it. I started putting in some Amazon affiliate links in my posts - could that be the reason why? Also, I have about 30 backlinks from a blog with a spam score of 11% - could this also be affecting it in any way?

Competitor Black Hat Link Building?
Hello big-brained Moz folks, We recently used Open Site Explorer to compile a list of inbound linking domains to one of our clients, alongside domains linking to a major competitor. This competitor, APBSpeakers.com, is dominating the search results with many #1 rankings for highly competitive phrases, even though their onsite SEO is downright weak. This competitor also has exponentially more links(602k vs. 2.4k) and way more content(indexed pages) reported than any of their competitors, which seems physically impossible to me. Linking root domains are shown as 667 compared to 170 for our client, who has been in business for 10+ years. Taking matters a step further, linking domains for this competitor include such authoritative domains as: Cnn.com TheGuardian.com PBS.org HuffingtonPost.com LATimes.com Time.com CBSNews.com NBCNews.com Princeton.edu People.com Sure, I can see getting a few high profile linking domains but the above seems HIGHLY suspicious to me. Upon further review, I searched CNN, The Guardian and PBS for all variations of this competitors name and domain name and found no immediate mentions of their name. I smell a rat and I suspect APB is using some sort behind-the-scenes programming to make these "links" happen, but I have no idea how. If this isn't the case, they must have a dedicated PR person with EXTREMELY strong connections to secure this links, but even this seems like a stretch. It's conceivable that APB is posting comments on all of the above sites, along with links, however, I was under the impression that all such posts were NoFollow and carried no link juice. Also, paid advertisements on the above sites should be NoFollow as well, right? Anyway, we're trying to get to the bottom of this issue and determine what's going on. If you have any thoughts or words of wisdom to help us compete with these seemingly Black Hat SEO tactics, I'd sure love to hear from you. Thanks for your help. I appreciate it very much. Eric

[linkbuilding] link partner page on webshop, is it working?
Hello Mozzers, I am wondering about the effect of link building by swapping links between websites and adding a link partner page to the web shop containing hundreds of links. I have this new competitor coming in to the SERP of Google competing on the keywords I am targeting. The competitor has way more links than our web shop. The competitor has a page with hundreds of links to other web shops witch on there turn has a link to there web shop. (not all off them link back btw) I always thought it is no use sharing links with other websites this way in creating a huge page with hundreds of links. it is of no benefit for neighter website to do this. Still it does seems to work (?) and tis strategy is used by a lot of web shops in the Netherlands. How are you guys looking at this?

Linking C blocks strategy - Which hat is this tactic?
This related to a previous question I had about satellite sites. I questioned the white-hativity of their strategy. Basically to increase the number of linking C blocks they created 100+ websites on different C blocks that link back to our main domain. The issue I see is that- the sites are 98% exactly the same in appearance and content. Only small paragraph is different on the homepage. the sites only have outbound links to our main domain, no in-bound links Is this a legit? I am not an SEO expert, but have receive awesome advice here. So thank you in advance!

Links from automated translations can damage the source?
I've a website dataprix.net composed by automated translations in diferent languages from original contents from another website, dataprix.com. Is good for dataprix.com to be linked by the contents of dataprix.net as the source of translated content, or could be considered by Google as a lot of low quality links and result on penalties for dataprix.com?

Seo back linking proposal review
Hi guys, below is a proposal i received from someone on freelancer.com for some seo building. Is this really all it takes? Obviously done overtime but basically is this it aside from the usual basics onsite keywords, urls, artciles, content etc. This is a the proposal for $250 (some are cheaper but almost the same details as below). This is one of the top seo people on freelancers.com and they all have good reviews. Is this basically it? Shell out $100 bucks or more a month to someone who will just post stuff all over the internet. It just seems all very simple, what is $100 bucks a month to stay at #1. Is there any real questions i should ask to make sure i am not just throwing my money away? Do Friends Let Friends Sell Links?
I have a friend with a site that has a lot of content. Some of that content has affiliate links with no follows to affiliate urls. Those pages also have a disclosure on them about the affiliate relationship. Now, he's talking about taking some of the existing under-performing affiliate links and renting them out to another site that wants them for the link juice. He says he'd have an on-page disclosure, a display ad for the advertiser on the page and something in the text like "you might check out our advertiser..." and then some keyword targeted link. He was asking me how risky I thought this is for him and really I don't know.Do you think Google would find this and s**t a chicken over it? I really don't know, given that I see really blatant undisclosed rented links all the time.Of course, my easy answer to him is "don't do it," but it does make me wonder how risky that is. Also, is that a realistic site-wide penalty kind of thing or it just doesn't pass any link juice to the advertiser kind of thing? So, I'm posting here for others to weigh in on. Thanks!
