Sub-category considered duplicate content?
-
Hello,
My craw diagnostics from the PRO account is telling me that the following two links have duplicate content and duplicate title tag:
-
http://www.newandupcoming.com/new-blu-ray-releases (New Blu-ray Releases)
-
http://www.newandupcoming.com/new-blu-ray-releases/action-adventure (New Action & Adventure Releases | Blu-ray)
I am really new to the SEO world so I am stuck trying to figure out the best solution for this issue. My question is how should I fix this issue.
I guess I can put canonical tag on all sub-categories but I was worried that search engines would not craw the sub-categories and index potentially valuable pages.
Thanks for all the help.

Thank you very much for your thorough thoughts, explanation, and your answer to my problem.
Just want to put my thoughts into words here so maybe this conversation can help others that are in the same shoes. The answer to the one question that you've raised, “do users benefit from your site?”, is an idea that I'm trying to prove. You are correct, the site does not provide real unique content except trying to improve user experience to help explore recent product releases on Amazon.com.
This is a niche product because most people are interested in the popular releases and not interested in browsing hundreds of releases (popular or not) by their release date but I believe there are enthusiasts that may benefit from this site. I want to benefit the people that are not just looking for the popular releases. But again, this is yet to be proven.
Thanks for sharing some great ideas to help improve my site. I will keep the review and user generated content concept in mind.

The challenge you face is your site does not provide any content. It seems you are an affiliate site for Amazon.com.
The question is, do users benefit from your site? When a user enters a search term in Google, are they ever better off for having found your site? Or would users be better off going directly to amazon?
I am not criticizing your site personally, but sharing google's view. If you offered a good, independent review of each movie, that is great. If you encourage users to generate content by asking their opinions, that is another positive way to go. But to simply link to thousands of movies on another site is not offering value to users or the internet.
The first step is answering the question...what does my site offer users? Why would users feel fortunate to have found my site? Once you have that answer, build upon it.
For your category page problem, you have two options. You can add the "noindex, follow" meta tag to the page. This tag tells search engines that you are not providing unique content and the pages should not be indexed.
Another option is to add unique content to the category pages. For your Action and Adventure page you can describe what movies are part of that genre. "Action and Adventure category includes movies ranging from Die Hard to Indiana Jones. Any fast-paced, heart pumping action movie fits well into this category....." Your content should be at least a few hundred words, something you wrote yourself, and something users might find helpful.

PPC ads: landing page vs website page ... other metrics to consider?
I run 3 PPC ads in Chinese language on Baidu, of which one landing page consistently ranks around 5th amongst 80+ other English website pages. So, when our site was recently developed for Chinese language, I redirected the ads to the relevant Chinese website pages for a month to see which would attract more visitors (Chinese landing pages vs Chinese website). I haven't fully analysed the results yet, but what other metrics should I consider than just the volume of visitors? Landing page

Someone mentioned us on facebook and brought 10k clicks to homepage.. how do I find the content?
So this morning our website started to go crazy with hits all coming from Facebook, and I am trying to figure out how I can see who was talking about us? All the traffic landed on one page specifically. When I look in analytics it just shows social, and then I can drill down to see they are coming from facebook, but that's it.

Google Analytics - Adding a sub-domain
Hi I have a google analytics query.
Reporting & Analytics | | Niki_1
I have a main site with a google analytics tag and I have 2 forms that sit on a subdomain with a different GA code. As I would like to measure end to end tracking, I would like the same GA code on the subdomain. What is the best way for me to implement this? Would I need to make some changes to the GA code that sits on the main site or can I add the the GA code from the main site onto the subdomain? Thanks0 -
Google Analytics Content Experiments - Experiment Conversions and Goal Figures Don't Match
Hi, I set up a new content experiment 6 days ago, the experiment says there have been 2 conversions but the goal associated with it says 5. The experiment is set to target 100% of traffic, distributed evenly among the variations, the goal is a destination URL goal. I've doubled checked the goal set up and everything seems fine. How can the content experiment report a different figure to the goal associated with it? Has anyone else noticed the same problem? Is this a bug? Is there a workaround available? Or is there a setting I need to be aware of when creating content experiments to prevent this from happening? I need to know I can trust the results the content experiments provide.

What is the best way to eliminate this specific image low lying content?
The site in question is www.homeanddesign.com where we are working on recovering from some big traffic loss. I finally have gotten the sites articles properly meta titled and descriptioned now I'm working on removing low lying content. The way there CMS is built, images have their own page (every one that's clickable). So this leads to a lot of thin content that I think needs to be removed from the index. Here is an example: http://www.homeanddesign.com/photodisplay.asp?id=3633 I'm considering the best way to remove it from the index but not disturb how users enjoy the site. What are my options? Here is what I'm thinking: add Disallow: /photodisplay to the robots.txt file See if there is a way to make a lightbox instead of a whole new page for images. But this still leaves me with 100s of pages with just an image on there with backlinks, etc. Add noindex tag to the photodisplay pages

How can you tell if your new content has been indexed?
Other than simply doing a search in each case, is there any way I can tell (in Webmaster Tools, for example) if the 500-1000 new pages of content I have added have been indexed and are now appearing in search results? My traffic hasn't risen much, but I know at least a few of them are in there... How can I tell when they're all in?
