How should we act regarding a 404 that came from a 301?
-
Hi!
Some time ago we changed our domain from canexel.net to canexel.es. We spent some time "cleaning" the backlinks to the ".net" domain since we had been penalized by penguin.
After some time we went ahead and did a 301 from .net to .es january 15. From that date on we've noticed that webmaster tools has been detecting a really big increase oon 404 detected on our site.
All this 404 come from .net pages that have been cached by google but don't exist anymore. The problem is that the 301 has made google believe that they exist also on our .es site (where of course don't exist either), and 404 have appeared from this non existing pages pinting to other non existing pages.
We want to to eliminate the urls from WMT but we don't know if we should eliminate them both from the .net and .es domains or just from the .net one. We also would like to know if this would penalize our SEO.
Thanks

Do you have internal links that use the .net address? That would make Google try to find them...

301 redirects. If new website is a different business does it still send link authority?
Hi Guys. I'm a music producer and studio owner. I want to start a new business for online music mixing. Instead of starting from scratch I want to use a 301 redirect from my previous site that has built up a little authority over the years. However, the old site is purely for my music studio, there is no mention of online mixing services. Will Google consider this 'odd'? Pass less link juice? Or perhaps pass no authority at all if Google 'decides' the 2 business are unrelated? Cheers in advance guys. Isaac.

301 redirects, efficiency and dynamic URLs
Hi, I have 2 301 redirect questions. Question 1: I have am working with a designer on the redesign of a website that currently has over 5,000 indexed pages. The majority of these are dynamic URLs from the Stone Locator database. (see below) http://www.domain.com/storelocator.php?zipcode=91784&page=12 How can I efficiently deal with these pages from an SEO perspective when developing the new site? Is there a way to do a bulk 301 redirect to a store locator page, for instance? Question 2: If a rel=canonical tag has been established on a page (www....), is it necessary to add 301 redirects to all of the other versions on: the home page (domain.com , domain.com/index.html, domain.com/index.html, etc.) all other pages with those same extensions ? Thank you for your help! Erin

301 internal redirects
Hello, I have a lot of low quality pages on my site, many of which have very similar URLs and cover similar topics. I want to tidy up my site by using 301 redirects as Rand suggests here: http://www.seomoz.org/blog/how-to-solve-keyword-cannibalization 1. As a rough rule of thumb, how many internal 301 redirects is too many? 2. Can lots be to the homepage if they're relevant? (I could have as many as 30) Thanks, Kevin
