When link building yourself where would you advise are the best places to add links?
-
Hi
I am not having much success with SEO companies so am looking at link building and doing SEO myself. Where would you advise are the best places to add links? Also is it better to add links to specific pages or just to the home page?
Thanks in advance

Thank you for the advice:)

Be careful. What used to work a few years ago in terms of link building can get you penalized now.
For the vast majority of cases, any link that you can make yourself is an unnatural link. So, if you're thinking of syndicating articles or doing a pile of directory submissions that's a bad idea. Still, there are a few places where it can be ok to make your own link such as valid industry directories.
SEOs who are being successful in this new age of SEO are ones who can creatively think of ways to attract links. A few naturally earned links will often outperform a bunch of self made ones.

In the Moz Research Tools drop-down menu, you will find "keyword analysis". Choose that and you will see a box where you can enter your keywords of interest--they will then appear in the "keyword difficulty and analysis" table below. Choose one and click on "view". This will create a report for you, which will include the top ten ranked pages for your keyword. (You can run an advanced report from there to get even more information.)
As far as replicating links, for Moz tools there are the competitive link finder and the link acquisition assistant, which you can find in the left column on the research tools page, under more tools & resources. You might also be interested in the "Beginners Guide to Link Building", which you can find here.

Thank you so much for responding,
Sorry if this sounds like a silly question but I am completely and totally new to this.
How would I localize the top domains from the keywords I want to rank?
Also how would I do step 3?
Thanks again

One tip that is really working 4 me
1. Localize the top domains from the keywords you want to rank.
2. Check their link profile with a software like "Open Site Explorer".
3. Localize the repicable links, and replicate them
Do not generate all links on the same day/week/month. Link building needs to be progressively done. It´s an ant work

Should I build internal links to my homepage?
Ive done a lot of internal linking before but its always been for other inner pages but now I need to do it for a websites homepage but this got me thinking if its even worth doing and should I be doing it at all? For the first question I was thinking that surely the homepage has more authority than any of my inner pages so how would internal links from inner pages help and for the second question Ive read a few posts like this Kissmetrics one here where it says you shouldnt do it. There are two types of links you should avoid using in your content: Homepage. Most sites have too many links to the homepage as it is. You would rather strengthen internal pages to boost the overall SEO of your site, rather than simply point more links at the homepage. https://blog.kissmetrics.com/commandments-of-internal-linking/ thoughts?

Best way to build backlinks
Hey guys, I was wondering what is the best way to build back links ? I have all the read moz's articles regarding this and I know the crucial parts are creating content, engaging users via social media etc. What I am interested in knowing is whether guest posting is still a solution to create that domain authority you need to rank ? I've spoken with some people that told me guest posting is out of date and will not pay off using it. By using guest posting of course I relate to creating unique content and valuable to the user. Thanks, Andrei

Link Building - Post Penguin
Hi, We have an eCommerce site that has recently been hit for some unnatural linking, resulting in a warning in our Google Webmaster Tools account. We weren't doing anything particularly underhand (and indeed before Penguin there wasn't a cause for concern) but nevertheless Google has picked up and penalised us. We've instantly removed the worst offending links and requested a resubmission. If this doesn't result in positive action from Google we're planning on employing the services of an Oracle member on SEOmoz who was kind enough to give us some fantastic free advice in order to go through and remove any further links that may be seen as questionable. Moving forward however I'm a little bit overwhelmed as to exactly what we should be doing in order to create a positive, natural link portfolio. I understand the emphasis is on ‘natural’ linking but we’ve been online for 8 years and I think it’s fairly safe to say that the number of links we have now is probably representative of about our ‘lot’ when it comes to 100% natural links. It would be nice to give our portfolio a nice gentle push in the right direction. I’ve checked through SEOmoz and the most up to date link building article they have appears to be http://www.seomoz.org/beginners-guide-to-seo/growing-popularity-and-links - This guide however does seem to suggest some things that are potentially frowned upon now (for example, highly optimised anchor text I understand is now a no-no). Obviously, in days gone by I could look at Open Site Explorer to try to emulate my competitors but, to be honest, most of them have what I would describe as a fairly poor link profile and if I'm going to invest real time in to this I want to make sure I'm heading off in the right direction. Does anybody on here know of a really high quality post penguin link building guide, either on SEOmoz or elsewhere that I can use as some bedtime reading? Our website is eCommerce in nature so an article tailored towards online selling would be ideal. Thanks for reading! Chris

Link Building PR versus topic
Regarding link building, what counts the most in terms of PR and relevance(topic). Is it whether, the link comes from a domain/page with high domain/page rank or that the link come from a domain with similar/relevant content? I know, we should always aim to get links from domains with both relevance and good page rank. But which is most important? For example: If we have a web site about swiss made watches. Should i focus on getting links from other domains with information about swiss made watches. Or can i achieve just as good link juice, by getting links from un-related web sites with high PR? We will of course get more qualified traffic from related domains. But from a pure search ranking, what plays the biggest factor?
