I'm starting an online training school and need some advice.
-
Hey Moz'ers,
I'm looking start an online training website. I feel there is 3 options:
- Self hosted LMS (Moodle, Litmos etc),
- Sass solution (Academy of Mine, Pathwright etc)
- Or DIY with Chargify type payments/subscriptions.
To get started it is easiest to use one of the software as a service options. I get to use my own domain but everything else is via the software provider.
**What potential problems can you see if/when I decided to do my own self hosted option? Will I be able to redirect the pages to my new site and pass along my accumulated page rank with minimal disruption or am I missing something catastrophic? **
Any advice would be helpful.

Good advice Matt-POP!
Thanks for taking the time to respond. I totally get what you mean. I think I'll go for the quick start and look to build a bigger LMS system in the background once I have proven my awesome training skills and that people are prepared to buy them.
Thanks again.

Long term, Moodle has better chat integrations, more pre installed language support and generally more features than the others.
If you are familiar with the general ecommerce debate of Magento vs Woocommerce you have the same decision to make here. If you're looking 5 years down the road, Magento almost always smashes woocommerce. If you want to be live by the weekend you want Woocomm.
If you plan to make the swap when you get bigger, sure use a SaaS. But long term, you're going to want Moodle or (if it improves) Litmos.

Homepage Title Tag - Key phrases spread too thin? Advice please
Hi there. Im newish to SEO and first time poster here (so apologies if I've posted in the incorrect place), and I'm hoping for some advice on my homepage title tag. Its is: "Asbestos Surveys & Removal, Kent & Sussex - MyBusinessName Asbestos Surveyors UK" Im hoping to target keyphrases "Asbestos Surveys Kent", "Asbestos Surveys Sussex", "Asbestos Removal Kent", "Asbestos Removal Sussex", "Asbestos Surveyors UK". My question is, have I attempted to jam too much in? By breaking the location bits away from "Asbestos Surveys", will it rank poorly for "Asbestos Surveys Kent"? Should I only target "Surveys" OR "Removal". Many thanks in advance.

Advice about subpages/submenus
I am working on some pages on my site (www.crmi-online.com) and am curious as to the pros/cons of subpages/submenus. The challenge I face is that I feel like I am creating too many pages that are nearly the same which may result in way too many submenus/subpages. Is it better to make a main page heading and hyperlink to related service page vs creating a subpage for it? (OR) Have the main page heading and multiple subpages even if the copy is very close to other pages. This is the area I am having trouble with: Services > Office Automation>Workflow>Electronic Document Management>AP Processing>HR Onboarding Thanks, I hope this makes sense.

Short URL's vs Optimised URL's
Howdy Mozzers! What are your thoughts on short URL's vs Optimised URL's. For example if a website currently sells wood furniture and wants to target the keyword "Wood Furniture For Sale", which URL would be preferable: Short URL: www.domain.com/wood-furniture Optimised URL: www.domain.com/wood-furniture-for-sale The website also uses facet navigation and selected attributes are added in a fixed order sequence after the category. For example if Cane is selected as wood type: Short URL: www.domain.com/wood-furniture/Cane Optimised URL: www.domain.com/wood-furniture-for-sale/Cane Which one do you prefer (between the short URL and optimised URL) and why? Cheers! MozAddict

What's better for SEO a page per review or a page with all reviews?
Was wondering what's better for SEO. We have a platform where consumers can read and write reviews. But the question is: is it better to give one page per company with all the reviews on it? Or should we have different pages for the specific company? Example: Itunes has a company page with all reviews on the page, but not the whole review. You have to click further to view the whole review (new page), at the moment this the current situation. What if we place the whole reviews on the company page, so you don't have specific pages for the reviews? Hopefully can someone help us out. Contact me if it's not clear or you want more extended information. Kind regards

My Images Aren't Indexed By Goolge
My site is indexed by google, and there hasn't really been much of a problem with my content, but now I am noticing that none of our images are coming up in the images searches of google. I mean none. I have even typed in the alt text of the image verbatim and nothing shows up. I use wordpress if this helps anyone. Any advice would be awesome, Thanks a lot.

Does a page's url have any weight in Google rankings?
I'm sure this question must have been asked before but I can't find it. I'm assuming that the title tag is far more important than the page's url. Is that correct? Does the url have any relevance to Google?

Page title getting cut off in SERPS even though it's under 70 characters?
I re-wrote the page title of a home page for a site I'm working on and made sure it's under 70 characters (68 to be exact) to comply with best practices and make sure it doesn't get cut-off in the SERPS. It's still getting cut-off though and right when it gets to the brand/website name. Does a "-" have anything to do with it? Does that translate to an elipsis? Format: keywords - website/brand.com Can anybody tell me why this would be happening?

Do product pages need unique content or does having duplcate content hurt on those pages?
We are adding product rapidly to our website but this requires allowing duplicate to exist on our product pages of furniture-online.com. From an SEO standpoint do we need to make this content unique for each product. Since we aren't link building to specific product pages and we don't anticipate product pages being found in a search result, are we ok leaving the duplicate content in place and spending our dollars elsewhere?
