Does a publicly available PDF embed impact Uniqueness
-
Hi,
If I embed a copy of a pdf document that is freely available and distributable on my web page, will it impact the uniqueness of my web page? This is assuming that the rest of the content is unique and of reasonably high quality. Also, the pdf is uploaded in my web host server, not directly linked to the original source.

If the PDF is available in other places, then it could be considered duplicate content. If you want to prevent that then no index the PDF. Unless the PDF is something you want to rank for.
-
It could add a bit of uniqueness, but probably not to the level of every word from the PDF being associated with the with the page that it's embedded on. Still, if the PDF is highly relevant to the page where it's embedded it's a positive factor for the page overall.

Embed WordPress blog into site or /blog?
Hi, Just a quick question - I assumed it would be a better to have a WordPress blog in a sub folder rather than a sub domain however I just wondered would it offer any more / less value if I just embedded the WordPress blog into my existing code? Thanks, Dan

How does WordPress 3.5.1 impact site rankings?
We have a user interested in having a WordPress 3.5.1 blog on their own existing, robust site. There is a blog module available in the CMS but the user feels more familiar with WordPress. It will be set up at the root as a subdirectory. Based on the URL structure, Google should see the WordPress blog and the user's website as the same website. (www.website.com/wordpress). There will not be a 301 needed. Does using the Wordpress module impact rankings? We've understood that Google doesn't care for Wordpress because 99% of spammers use it... is that only if it is hosted on WordPress.com? Also, are there any other reasons that our user should use/avoid WordPress?

Is it advisable to have unique pages for different cities/states though there wouldnt be any actual differentiation in the actual content.
Is it advisable to have unique pages for different cities/states though there wouldnt be any actual differentiation in the content. For example should we have separate pages for "hammers in california" & "hammers in new york". The product is same and content more or less the same. The search volume for individual queries is low but collectively makes a large number. The unique title tag automatically will generate traffic. So does it make sense to make 50 such pages. Else is there any way to uniquely target 50 such queries/month/city

Indexing of PDF files
Hey all, I understand the functionality of PDF files being indexed and how to remove them if required so in this post I'm not requiring any advice on 'how to' as such, but i just wanted to get a general opinion/consensus of if you deliberately allow PDF files to be crawled/indexed.

Whether or not you guys optimise the files for search.
If you do disallow them from being crawled and indexed, why?
Generally the pro's and con's you may have found about have searchable PDF files as part of your indexed content.1 -
Posting youtube videos on your site-use irframe or "old embed code"
If you choose "embed" now, youtube gives you the choice of using an iframe: <iframe width="430" height="352" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/0-nKXALtHWs?rel=0" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen=""></iframe> or, the old embed code: <object width="430" height="352"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/0-nKXALtHWs?version=3&hl=en_US&rel=0"><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/0-nKXALtHWs?version=3&hl=en_US&rel=0" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" width="430" height="352" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true"></object> Is either better when it comes to seo?

I have a page where you can download a PDF of the material - should I exclude the PDF from the search engines?
In my niche, there is a controversial research article that is very popular. I am writing a rebuttal to this article and giving another point of view. My article has the potential to be really good link bait for my site. The original article is often printed out to be shown to professionals in my niche. My hope is that people will do the same with mine. So, I plan to have a PDF version of my article available on my page. The article that is visible on my site (i.e. non PDF) will be a graphic rich article that is easy for the reader to go through. I plan to have the PDF have all of the same text, but it won't have as many graphics - it will look more like a scientific research article. So, should I exclude the pdf from search engines so that it isn't duplicate content? Or does that even matter seeing as it is a duplicate of my own content? I want people to link to the main article, not the pdf. Any tips would be greatly appreciated!
