404 Errors in Google Webmaster Tools
-
Hello,
Google webmaster tools is returning our URLs as 404 errors:
http://www.celebritynetworth.com/watch/D5GrrPEN9Oc/tom-mccarthy-floating/
When we enter the URL into the browser it loads the page just fine.
Is there a way to determine why Google Webmaster Tools is returning a 404 error when the link loads perfectly fine in a browser?
Thanks,
Alex

Your looks like a script or something. It has a bunch of links. On my end I see nothing except the nav bar and some banner ad. NOTHING in the body. I would give this a 404.
-
I can confirm the page loads fine for me at this time.
I would suggest examining your server logs and determining the reason for the disruption.
-
Hmm, the URL loads ok now. Could have something to do with the feed. Thanks for checking up. We'll have to do some investigating.

It seems you have an issue with your site.
http://www.celebritynetworth.com/watch/zX6ZOL6kCVY/shane-mosley-trains-for-pacquiao/
That is the only link of yours I tried, and it offers a 404 error for me.

Thanks for following up so quickly.
It's been happening for a few days and it's the group of links:
http://www.celebritynetworth.com/watch/D5GrrPEN9Oc/tom-mccarthy-floating/
http://www.celebritynetworth.com/watch/8nMT69kjNvY/dirk-responds-mocking/
http://www.celebritynetworth.com/watch/zX6ZOL6kCVY/shane-mosley-trains-for-pacquiao/
There's a few pages of these. Everything seems fine through web. I've had the server admins check the logs and they don't see any page errors coming in for those links. Is there anything else that can cause Google to show 404s on working links?
-
If it is just an occasional link, or a few links on a given day, then it is probable there was an issue during the crawl.
The purpose of the information is to alert you to possible problems with your site. If you investigated the issue and have determined everything is ok, then I would suggest disregarding the matter.
If the same URL appears more then once as a 404 error, or if you see a large number of errors, then further investigation would be warranted. You can check your server logs for additional information.

Wordpress Website + 404 Errors
Hi everyone, I like to do a bit of auditing for our clients using SEOMoz. Once client that's using a Wordpress website had reported over a couple hundred 404 errors. However, when checking out the links, all the webpages (that I've tested) loaded just fine. Does anyone know why this would be the case? I thought, perhaps, the website might have gone down when it was crawling, but I have no evidence to back this up.

Webmaster Tools/Time spent downloading a page
Hi! Is it preferable for the "time spent downloading a page" in Google webmaster tools to be high or low? I've noticed that this metric rapidly decreased after I moved my site to WP Engine and I'm trying to figure out if it's a good or bad thing. Thanks! Jodi QK8dp QK8dp

"/blogroll" causing 404 error
I'm running a campaign, and the crawling report for my site returned a lot of 4xx errors. When I look at the URLs, they all have a "/blogroll" in the end, like: mysite.com/post-number-1/blogroll mysite.com/post-number-2/blogroll And so on, for pretty much all the pages. The thing is, I removed the blogroll widget completely, so I really wouldn't know what can possibly point to links like that. Is there anything to fix on the site? Thanks

Google's "cache:" operator is returning a 404 error.
I'm doing the "cache:" operator on one of my sites and Google is returning a 404 error. I've swapped out the domain with another and it works fine. Has anyone seen this before? I'm wondering if G is crawling the site now? Thx!
