HTTPS vs HTTP
-
A few months ago we switched all product page urls in our e-commerce site to https: Recently working on the site I was appalled at how slow our pages were loading and on investigating further with our hosting partner they advised to switch back to http instead of https for all of the site content to help page speed. We obviously still need to use https in the cart and check-out. I think that that Google will be pushing all commerce web pages to https but for now I need to improve page load speed. Will the switch back from https to http impair our keywords? https://www.silverandpewtergifts.com/

Check out SPDY and see if your web server supports it.

It shouldn't affect them but I would look into switching hosts to better deliver your website

Hi Richard. You should probably look into using a CDN to accelerate the image loading along with taking on the recommendations from Google's Page Speed testing tool. See: https://developers.google.com/speed/pagespeed/insights/?url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.silverandpewtergifts.com%2F&tab=mobile Both are in the red currently which tends to affect rankings. Cheers!

Transfering Site from Http to HTTPS
Migrating all of our pages from HTTP to HTTPS. I am listing few of my concerns regarding the same: Currently, all HTTPS traffic to our Homepage and SEO page is 301 Redirected to HTTP equivalent. So, when we enable HTTPS on all our pages and 301 all HTTP traffic to HTTPS and stop current 301 Redirection to HTTP, will it still cause a loop during Google crawl due to old indexing? Will we move whole SEO facing site to HTTPS at once or will it be in phases? Which of the two approach is better keeping SEO in mind? what all SEO changes will be required on all pages.(eg. Canonical URLs on our website as well as affiliate websites), sitemaps etc.

Stuck with canonical URL - main site vs categorys?
Hello, I started to doubt myself. We have a classified advertisements website. On the main www.website.com page, almost all the advertisements are shown. Now we take those advertisements and also split them into categorys Category 1 / category 2 / category 3 / category 4 Now all those categories almost always have the same content as www.website.com except a bit less (because X amount of content is now divided also to 4-5 groups) For raking should i actually tell google that those categories are a copy of www.website.com or they should still be as they are?

JSON-LD meta data: Do you have any rules/recommendations for using BlogPosting vs Article?
Dear Moz Community. I'm looking at moving from in-line Microdata in the HTML to JSON-LD on the web pages that I manage. Seems a far simpler solution having all the meta data in one place - especially for trouble shooting! With this in mind I've started to change the page templates on my personal site before I tackle the ones for my eCommerce site. I've made a start, and I'm still working on the templates producing some default values (like if a page doesn't have an associated image) but have been wondering if any of you have any rules/recommendations for using BlogPosting vs Article? I'd call this type of page an Article:

Hyphens and underscores vs hyphens and double hyphens
Hello. I am thinking of changing the hyphens to underscores. The problem is that i have a magento extension for improved navigation and if you choose to use hyphens for special characters it will not let you choose this also for separating attributes. It will allow you only bouble hyphen. So when i go to sub-category https://www.shoponline.gr/peripoihsh/somatos/kremes-somatos/ and filter two brands (victoria's secret and frais monde) it returns the url https://www.ishoponline.gr/peripoihsh/somatos/kremes-somatos/victoria-s-secret--frais-monde instead of the iniital url with undescore which was https://www.ishoponline.gr/peripoihsh/somatos/kremes-somatos/victoria_s_secret-frais_monde. So it is "victoria-s-secret--frais-monde" vs "victoria_s_secret-frais_monde". Any suggestions? Thank you in advance.

Does HTTPS Affect Inbound Link Numbers?
Hi All, I'm dealing with an internal IT staff that is trying to change an entire site to run on HTTPS instead of HTTP. The way they want things configured, all links pointing to HTTP URLs would redirect to the HTTPS. I'm assuming this would adversely affect page rank/domain authority, etc... am I right there? Thanks, Ben

Blog archives vs individual articles
In a client's blog, you can find each individual article pages as well as aggregate of articles per month or sometimes per day (including each entire article). The problem is that the article appears twice, once in a dedicated page (article page) and once with other articles (in the archive). Is there a specific SEO approach to this type of situation? Is there duplicate content? What page name should I give each archive (if at all), as there are quite a few? Thank you

Google Webmaster tools vs SeoMOZ Crawl Diagnostics
Hi Guys I was just looking over my weekly report and crawl diagnostics. What I've noticed is that the data gathered on SeoMoz is different from Google Webmaster diagnostics. The number of errors, in particular duplicate page titles, content and pages not found is much higher that what google webmaster tools is represents. I'm a bit confused and don't know which data is more accurate. Please Help

Google cached https rather than http
Google is using a secure version of a page (https) that is meant to be displayed using only http. I don't know of any links to the page using https, but want to verify that. I only have 1 secure page on the site and it does not link to the page in question. What is the easiest way to nail down why Google is using the https version?
