This is the same question as http://moz.com/community/q/having-2-domains-with-same-name-impact-on-seo, correct?

Hey Aman
When it comes to duplicate content, a little bit (using the same article once or twice) will not generate any serious penalties. That will only happen if you basically feature the same site twice. Most duplicate-content related "penalties" are actually more like neutralizations of the benefits of unique content. Only the site with the original content is going to gain ranking benefits:
http://moz.com/learn/seo/duplicate-content
In other words, it won't kill either site but you will take out on-page SEO as a factor when it comes to ranking, which will hurt you in the long run.
Here's another useful page featuring some videos you might find useful should you find yourself battling duplicate content issues:
http://moz.com/blog/how-to-defeat-duplicate-content-next-level
Also, avoid using any linking practices between the two sites - if you have this setup there are good odds you are hosting using the same services and linking to your own site will generate negative responses in the eyes of search engines.
Hope all goes well and feel free to follow up with me,
Rob

Fully agree with Matt-POP.

If you put duplicate content on the two sites it will be a problem, otherwise it will not.

SEO companies that own linking properties
Hi everyone, I do some SEO work for a personal injury attorney, and due to his profession, he gets cold-called by every digital marketing company under the sun. He recently got called by a company that offers packages that include posting in multiple directories (all on domains they own), creating subdomains for search listings, and PR services like writing and distributing press releases for distribution to multiple media outlets. The content they write will obviously not be local. All this and more for less than $500 a month! I'm curious if any of you have any experience with companies like this and whether you consider them black hat. I realize I'm asking you to speculate on a very broad description of what they offer, but their linking strategies sound risky to me. What experiences have you had with companies like this? Do you know anyone who has ever gotten a penalty using these tactics? Thanks, in advance, for sharing your thoughts.

Would having a + plus sign between keywords in meta title have an effect on SEO?
I have seen one of my clients' competitors do this in their meta title and it got me a little intrigued... I understand that google uses the + sign as an operator in adwords, and to a certain extent, as a search tool, but would it help or make any difference to the SEO in the meta title/data (eg. 'SEO+Marketing+Services')? Thanks

Mobile SEO best practices : Should my mobile website be located at m.domain.com or domain.com/mobile?
I'd like to know if there's any difference between using m.domain.com/pages or domain.com/mobile/pages for a mobile website? Which one is better? Why? Does Google treat the two differently? As you can see, I'm new to this! This is my first time working on a mobile website, so any links/resources would be highly appreciated. Thanks!

Contacted by an SEO company..
We have been contacted by a free SEO company, who seem to use your domain and create articles for you on your site, linking to other relevant sites, while other relevant sites link to yours. All they ask is a small link on your homepage. An excerpt of the instructions are: Download the attached files in a folder to be uploaded to your server (public_html) folder Set 777 permission to the folder. This allows our script to work on your site Add the "site wide" link on your homepage, as well as on the inner pages, the same way we do in the article section. Implement the "site wide" link following the instructions on the README.txt file Copy the script on the file or you can provide us with a temporary FTP access to your server and we will do it for you. Please note that if you can upload our folder to your site within 48 hours, you will be eligible to receive 20 bonus links for your SEO campaign. Should we tread carefully?

Ditching of spammy links - will it be of benefit?
Hi there. We have recently taken over the SEO for a five-star hotel who rank very well already for a lot of their main terms, largely down to the fact they have decent off-site strength (as yet very little on-page optimisation has been done, so they aren't appearing for some quite key terms). This off-page strength includes around 2000 links, giving the home page an authority of 63 in the OSE tool. However, upon looking at the links to check they were pointing to the most relevant page etc, I notice they have A LOT of spammy links, pointing to their site with anchor text like 'cheap cialis' or 'buy valium'. Clearly these aren't the kinds of links that should be pointing to a five-star hotel, but should I expect to see much of a drop by attempting to remove these links? We obviously want to clean their link portfolio up, but I'm not sure they would be too happy if all their top rankings disappeared - even if only temporarily, and even if done with the best intentions. I ask as none of the other sites we handle SEO for have had such a proliferation of these links, so I've not seen the ramifications in full. Any help would be much appreciated, along with advice on the best way to remove these links.

Yelp.com - How do they do this?
Yelp.com seems to dominate a lot of search results for a lot of reasons. Specifically, I've noticed that their internal search results URL appears in Google for tons of results like "hem jeans new york". They dominate TONS of terms like this and it's always an internal search result page for yelp that appears in #1 Google. From what I can tell, yelp.com is taking various keyword permutations from their internal search, combined with local city/zip info and creating such landing pages. Here is a URL result for "hem jeans new york" http://www.yelp.com/search?find_desc=Hem+Jeans&find_loc=New+York%2C+NY My question is this...What are the specific causes of their success on this type of local / long-tail / specific keyword strategy? Is it... 1. Using dynamic sitemaps to feed Google thousands of URLs with various keyword permutations attached.? 2. Their domain reputation, inbound links, etc. etc. 3. Both? Something else? Thanks for your feedback.
