Https vs http two different domains?
-
If i visit mywebsite.com.au, www.mywebsite.com.au and http://www.mywebsite.com.au - i get one website
BUT if I visit https://www.mywebsite.com.au I get a different website - I also get a untrusted website warning
The logo in the bottom right of the https: website is the name of the webdesigner where the website is hosted.
Is this a normal practice?
-
ahh...thank you for your time
I track the website in MOZ tools - that is where the list came from - it is a screen shot.
Perhaps a MOZ staff member can shed some light on the issue?
I could not replicate it either.
Confused ?!?
-
Ofcourse!
I think your website isn't ranking on HTTPS at the moment. I couldn't find any HTTPS urls when I used the site:https://ryanyoungdesign.com.au command in Google.
Also, I don't think you have any backlinks pointing at the HTTPS domain. When I check your backlinks MOZ is automaticly showing the results of the HTTP version (see notice in Open Site Explorer on top). When I manualy ask for the links of the HTTPS domain I still get links that point to the normal HTTP domain (I checked a few manualy). So I think there isn't much of a problem there. Althrough I'm curious, were did you get the list that you included? I Couldn't replicate it through Open Site Explorer.
Your latest server provider is right about not setting up HTTPS. That's exaclty were the problem is. Every website has a 443 port and if the server provider doesn't do anything with it it will automaticly search the first configured 443 port. In this case it found the port of a other website on the server that does has HTTPS set up.
Disallowing it in the robots.txt file won't solve the issue of showing a different website. Your server provider should configure this by either showing a blank page (404) or by requesting the HTTP folder through the 443 port. I would prefer the second option since it's the most user friendly.
Hope this helps!

Hi Bob
Thank you! Can I ask another question?
I have since found that the url https://www.ryanyoungdesign.com.au has been indexed by the Moz bot and has a Moz score of 30. The url https://ryanyoungdesign.com.au has also been indexed and has a score of 28. The page http://ryanyoungdesign.com.au also has a score of 30. Please refer to attachment
We recently moved the website from one server provider to another - the latest server provider never set up a https for the website. Given the https has its own MOZ ranking does this mean the original server provider set up a https version?
FYI - this was the reply of our new current server host when I pointed out the redirect
'Yes, this is a known issues with Nginx. We are looking at a resolution. There should be no backlinks linking to the SSL version of the site - this would cause an error anyway'
they also stated that ...You don't want to be ranking the https. Not sure why it would be ranked - I would disallow it in your robots.txt if it's an issue.'

Dear Felicity,
From what I'm seeing on https://www.ryanyoungdesign.com.au the 443 port isn't configured correctly. This is the standard HTTPS port. There are either two options:
1. The 443 port is set up, but is requesting the wrong files.
2. The 443 port isn't configured at all and picks up the first files it finds.
Either way you will have to ask your webdevelopment company to fix this and make sure they set up the 443 port to process the right files.
Hope this helps!

Hi,
In my limited understanding I think you haven't taken SSL. Not only your site you can check for any other website who haven't taken SSL you will get same errors so you don't need to worry about it.
(In below paragraph I'm not trying to promote my website . It is just an example to explain. If I'm violating any guideline by doing so moz staff can edit/delete this post)
I'm giving example of my website signwaves.co.uk if you open this website it will redirected to https version.
Now coming to second part of your question though I'm not seeing any logo but I understand your concern.
"The logo in the bottom right of the https: website is the name of the webdesigner where the website is hosted.
Is this a normal practice?"
Yes web designer/development company put their logo on usually every site designed /developed by company . You can ask them to remove or if they don't It won't affect too much to you as far as SEO is concern but It does affect to webdesign company because they are getting loads of backlink on same anchor text and getting links from every page of website.
I hope it helps you.
Thanks

if you go to
you will see it is different from

No, it's not. Without an example I'd say you just don't have HTTPS set up properly.

Domain Name Character Amount
I know that best practice is to keep your domain short, but is there an actual suggested character ballpark when coming up with one? Any thoughts are appreciated.

Domain hacked and redirected to another domain
2 weeks ago my home page plus some others had a 301 redirect to another cloned domain for about 1 week (due to a hack). The original pages were then de-indexed and the new bad domain was indexed and in effect stole my rankings. Then the 301 was removed/cleaned from my domain and the bad domain was fully de-indexed via a request I made in WMT (this was 1 week ago). Then my pages came back into the index but without any ranking power (as if it's just in the supplemental index). It's been like this for a week now and the algorithms have not been able to correct it. So how do I get this damage undone or corrected? Can someone at Google reverse/cancel the 301 ranking transfer since the algorithms don't seem to be able to?I have the option to do a "Change of Address" in WMT from bad domain to my domain. But I don't think this would work properly because it says I also need to place a 301 on the bad domain back to mine. Would a change of address still work without the 301?Please advise/help what to do in order to get my rankings back to where they were.

Different domains vs subdomains for 6 e-shops
We have to choose to stay working with different domain or move all 6 domains to new domain. Right now we have 6 different brand e-shops with 6 domains that have Domain Authority 30-40. So for example:
Technical SEO | | TauriUrb
e-shop1.com
e-shop2.com
.. And we are thinkig about making brand new domain and move all these domains content and link juice into one domain with 301 redirect. So we would have one e-shop solution with 6 subdomains like: e-shop1.newdomain.com
e-shop2.newdomain.com
... Like gap.com does with their brands or http://www.andotherbrands.com. That each brand has subdomains but they use same e-shop solution. With same domains or new subdomains strategy, we will improve internal linking structure between all these e-shops. We have also considerd that with new domain we don't have good organic search results within few first months. So we try to see the bigger picture and consider SEO future. SO QUESTION IS:
Lets leave brand marketing out, then what would you suggest to do? To stay with 6 different DA 30-40 domains or build one stong domain with 6 different brand subpages? We cant use subcategories. All subpages products will be clothes. Latetly there as beed many news and articles that subdomains are part of main domain and vice versa we are looking suggestions from this board. As we right now think that as we have weak domains righ now it would be better idea to start building one strong domain.0 -
Rankings of Subdomains vs. Main Domain
Here's a puzzler... Our main domain (www.ides.com) doesn't appear in Google (but does on Bing and other engines). We think this is due to duplicate content which we're fixing. However our website's subdomains continue to appear prominently in SERPs, even on Google - here are some examples: IDES Prospector = prospector.ides.com IDES = support.ides.com Cycolac FR15 = catalog.ides.com Why would Google penalize a main domain and its subdomains?

Domain redirect
Recently we launched a site under a new domain, the site is doing well under the URL. Client calls me today and would like to have another domain he owns point to the new site. The domain he has has no history and no content. He is under the impression that people are looking for him by typing in www.domainxyz.com. I attempted to explain otherwise to him, but I lost. Question, what are the drawbacks of taking this domin and doing a perm redirect via . Httpaccess file?

Duplicate content and http and https
Within my Moz crawl report, I have a ton of duplicate content caused by identical pages due to identical pages of http and https URL's. For example: http://www.bigcompany.com/accomodations https://www.bigcompany.com/accomodations The strange thing is that 99% of these URL's are not sensitive in nature and do not require any security features. No credit card information, booking, or carts. The web developer cannot explain where these extra URL's came from or provide any further information. Advice or suggestions are welcome! How do I solve this issue? THANKS MOZZERS
