Unique use of nofollow tag
-
Love the community here. I just had a quick question about the using noindex, nofollow. We are a car dealership group that uses a website provider (cobalt). Since they provide the website they are the only ones with access to remove pages etc. We can add pages but only they can remove them. There are some pages we need to have removed but according to them they are unable to remove them, (I think the manufacture might mandate having some pages), anyway some of these pages literally have nothing on them, and there isn't really any useful content we could add to them. So we are using noindex on them to ensure that they stay out of search indices, but I am wondering if we should also use nofollow on them. If I understand nofollow correctly it just means search engines won't follow the links on the page, well for most of these pages the only links on them are the navigation, and since we don't plan on adding any content to these pages and we can't remove them should we use noindex and nofollow as a way to "remove" them from the site as much as we can?

Thanks Patrick. So you're saying since they're being noindexed anyway adding nofollow to them is pointless/redundant?

Hi there
I agree with your noindex move. You can also block them in your robots.txt.
I wouldn't worry too much about the "nofollow" addition. If there are links on the page, you're not going to hurt them since you already noindexed the page they live on. I would, however, remove any reference to those pages in your content, navigation, or internal linking. This could potentially create a bad user experience.
Hope this helps! Let me know if you have any questions or comments! Good luck!

Reciprocal links and nofollow tag
What happens if I link to a site using the nofollow tag and they are linking back to me with a dofollow link? Will it give me as much power and link juice as if it was a one way link (to me) or will Google discount the link because it's reciprocal?

Is it a good idea to use the rel canonical tag to refer to the original source?
Sometimes we place our blog post also on a external site. In this case this post is duplicated. Via the post we link to the original source but is it also possible to use the rel canonical tag on the external site? For example: The original blogpost is published on http://www.original.com/post The same blogpost is published on http:///www.duplicate.com/post. In this case is it wise to put a rel canonical on http://www.duplicate.com/post like this: ? What do you think? Thanks for help! Robert

Has anyone used Micrositez? Or can recommend them?
Hi all, After using SEOmoz for a while (and I have learnt alot - it's a fantastic resource) I think it's about time our website is given the nudge by a professional, who unlike me isn't learning the ropes and trying to compete with the big boys! So easy question, has anyone used/can vouch for http://www.micrositezdigital.co.uk/ I've been in contact with them alot recently and spent hours on the phone. 1 side of me is impressed, the other is scared to death of the monthly price. Any help would be appreciated with this, It would nice to know how good they are especially in regards to their bespoke campaigns. Thanks, Allan

Is a 302 useful here?
We have a site that had one super successful viral video a couple of years back and basically the site needs a ton of work to even be functional. We don't have the time or the resources to even touch it. Our video is still getting tons of views today and I'm fairly certain it's the only reason the site still gets traffic. Most of the views come from youtube which prompts them to check out the site. We plan on going back to the site at a later date, but for now wanted to redirect it to another site of ours. In this case is it best practice to 302? or is a 301 still the proper solution?
