Confused: Url Restructure

Hello,
We're giving our website a bit of a spring clean in terms of SEO. The site is doing ok, but after the time invested in SEO, content and last year's migration of multiple sites into one, we're not seeing the increase in traffic we had hoped.
Our current urls look something like this:
/a-cake-company/cup-cakes/strawberry
We have the company name as the first level as we with the migration we migrated many companies into one site. What we're considering is testing some pages with a structure like this:
/cup-cakes/cup-cake-company-strawberry
So we'll lose a level and we'll focus more on the category of the product rather than the brand.
What's your thoughts on this? We weren't going to do a mass change yet, just a test, but is this something we should be focusing on? In terms of organisation our current url structure is perfect, but what about from an SEO point of view? In terms of keywords customers are looking for both options.

Technical Site Audit Checklist: 2015 Edition (Moz)There are probably opportunities beyond your URL structure that you are missing - your URL structure and depth (you're not going that deep at all) alone won't hurt your PA and DA the way you think it will.
Do a quick honest assessment of the layout and content of your website and see where you can enhance areas.

They are all separate companies and our customer deals with all the different brands, so we have to keep them all separate.
We currently are using:** /cake-company/cupcakes/type-of-cupcake **as suggested, but we're worried it's too far down by the time you get to the product?
We've seen the PA be significantly reduced by being this deep and wonder if it has any other effect SEO wise?

If you are showcasing different companies on your site then it should be...
/cake-company/cupcakes/type-of-cupcake
Apologies on that. Out of curiosity - are all of these companies separate and active companies? Or did they all merge into one larger company? Or is this like a listing website of different companies an their products?

The problem we have is that because we represent 8 brands, these aren't in our domain, so in order to include the domain we currently have those as level one, e.g.:
/cake-company-1
/cake-company-2
/cake-company-3etc...
Our current url structure allows us to have the site neatly organised under each manufacturer of our products, but this then makes the urls quite long and deep.
Would you suggest combining the brand with the product it's self so that they are both in the url and this therefore reduces the url by one level?
E.g. - /cake-company-1-cup-cakes/strawberry
That way we can have:
/cake-company-2-cup-cakes/strawberry
/cake-company-3-cup-cakes/strawberry
/cake-company-4-cup-cakes/strawberryEtc?

Hi there
If it were upto me, I would suggest the URLs going something like this:
www.brandname.com/cupcakes/strawberry
This tells me the brand, the type of product, and then a specific product. The beauty here is you can do it with all of your products (if you have more):
www.brandname.com/cupcakes/carrot-cake
www.brandname.com/cupcakes/strawberry-lemonade
www.brandname.com/cakes/bundtIf you have variations below cupcake but above flavor, you can add that between cupcakes and flavors, so:
www.brandname.com/cupcakes/variation/flavors
or...
www.brandname.com/cupcakes/best-sellers/flavors
www.brandname.com/cupcakes/favorites/flavorsEither way, I wouldn't put your company name as a folder path because it should already be in the domain of your website.

Submitting URLs After New Search Console
Hi Everyone I wanted to see how people submit their urls to Google and ensure they are all being indexed. I currently have an ecommerce site with 18,000 products. I have sitemaps setup, but noticed that the various product pages haven't started ranking yet. If I submit the individual url through the new Google Search Console I see the page ranking in a matter of minutes. Before the new Google Search Console you could just ask Google to Fetch/Render an XML sitemap and ask it to crawl all the links. I don't see the same functionality working today on Google Search Console and was wondering if there are any new techniques people could share. Thanks,

URL Structure for geo location for specific page
On hackerearth.com/challenges page, there is an option to select languages. This option is in the footer. Once you select the language the url changes. Ex - if we select French, the URL changes to hackereath.com/fr/challenges. In case we decide to change the URL of this page with Geo, what should be the URL structure which accommodates languages as well. My research says that it would good to keep the url like domainname.com/page/language.

Removing dates from wordpress blog URL
Hi all, Ours is website's blog is built with wordpress. We used to have the below URL pattern like may other websites: www.website.com/blog/2016/04/10/topic-on-how-to-optimise-blog. Recently we removed the date and made the URL pattern to just like: www.website.com/blog/topic-on-how-to-optimise-blog All the links have been generated with new URLs across the blog. Still all the old URLs have been reported as crawl errors in search console. I am wondering will there be any auto redirect formula to redirect all the old URLs to new URLs. Thanks

URL Parameter & crawl stats
Hey Guys,I recently used the URL parameter tool in WBT to mark different urls that offers the same content.I have the parameter "?source=site1" , "?source=site2", etc...It looks like this: www.example.com/article/12?source=site1The "source parameter" are feeds that we provide to partner sites and this way we can track the referral site with our internal analytics platform.Although, pages like:www.example.com/article/12?source=site1 have canonical to the original page www.example.com/article/12, Google indexed both of the URLs

How long does google index old urls?
Hey guys, We are currently in the process of redesigning a site but in two phases as the timeline issues. So there will be up to a 4 week gap between the 1st and 2nd set of redirects. These urls will be idle 4 weeks before the phase content is ready. What effect if any will this have on the domain and page authority? Thanks Rob

Non-www URL showing in Blog
Thanks to Sanket Patel in an earlier query I've now got non-www pages showing as www. pages on my www.nile-cruises-4u.co.uk website. But the Blog which is part of the site posts and pages still show as non-www pages. For example: http://nile-cruises-4u.co.uk/blog/makadi-palace-hotel-makadi-bay/ I wonder if anyone has come upon the same problem and what the solution might be? Thanks, Colin
