E-Commerce Panda Question
-
I'm torn. Many of our 'niche' ecommerce products rank well, however I'm concerned that duplicate content is negatively effecting our overall rankings via Panda Algo. Here is an example that can be found through quite a few products on the site.
This sub-category page (http://www.ledsupply.com/buckblock-constant-current-led-drivers) in our 'led drivers' --> 'luxdrive drivers' section has three products that are virtually identical with much of the same content on each page, except for their 'output current' - sort of like a shirt selling in different size attributes: S, M, L and XL.
I could realistically condense 44 product pages (similar to example above) down to 13 within this sub-category section alone (http://www.ledsupply.com/luxdrive-constant-current-led-drivers). Again, we sell many of these products and rank ok for them, but given the outline for how Panda works I believe this structure could be compromising our overall Panda 'quality score', consequently keeping our traffic from increasing.
Has anyone had similar issues and found that its worth the risk to condense product pages by adding attributes?
If so, do I make the new pages and just 301 all the old URLs or is there a better way?

Thanks!

Brooke,
Are you going to be keeping the url for your main product? If that is the case, you shouldn't have to worry about losing any juice, only waiting to gain it. Your product pages will actually gain page authority for having less products under a category. If you do redo the url's there will be a slight fall for a while, but use Webmaster Tools to manually re-index your main pages and it will be quick.
Thanks,

nice site btw. i looked through it and good rankings. 1st page for your tag line!

thanks for responding.
any particulate advise on making the switch?
I'm not too excited about losing all the URLs we have had for years and adding 301s. I guess the upside out weighs the short-term down side.

Brooke,
Having a website with many similar products, I know what you're experiencing. The best move would be to have as many attributes on one page as possible. Colors, Sizes, Slightly different styles. Less products with a higher quality will also improve the shoppers experience and keep them on one page.
Thanks,

thanks for responding. The thing about 'ranking ok' is that these aren't the only products on our site and while we do rank wll for lots of the examples I mentioned, these products have also been something we have carried for many many years and were the first to sell them. We have become an authority on them, however, again I'm concerned that panda is seeing lots of duplicate content and giving us a 'bad grade or score', which may not seriously hurt those particular pages, but in-turn negatively effect the site as a whole.
My thought is that if I condense all the variations onto their own pages using 'attributes' then Panda would improve our score and consequently improve traffic to the site as a whole???
Anyone done this with success?
What do you think?

If you are ranking well for these you probably don't have a problem - at the moment.
But, if you have lots of these kinds of pages beyond what you mentioned them it might be to your advantage to consolidate multiple similar products onto one single page.
Many of the items that we sell are on pages with several similar items. I believe that this gives you a more compact site, with more substantive pages that ranks better.

Few question about SEO
HI guys, I have few questions and I always find good answer here. I tried many SEO companies some very expensive and well known some with medium prices and some from India. I’m not an SEO expert but I always get the same things from SEO companies. They're saying you have to stay with us for few months before you’ll see any results. I completely understand however I don’t see the result on the end.1. What exactly Do I need SEO company for, after I do on page optimisation if they don’t work on proper backlinks. Just letting you know I’m getting content from other people.2. Is there something else which is really important after your page is optimised than backlinks? Or we should fully focus on get backlinks from customers, guest post, sharing on social media etc. to increase our DA and PA?3. Any advice about some individual or company who is good in backlink services?

Google+ Page Question
Just started some work for a new client, I created a Google+ page and a connected YouTube page, then proceeded to claim a listing for them on google places for business which automatically created another Google+ page for the business listing. What do I do in this situation? Do I delete the YouTube page and Google+ page that I originally made and then recreate them using the Google+ page that was automatically created or do I just keep both pages going? If the latter is the case, do I use the same information to populate both pages and post the same content to both pages? That doesn't seem like it would be efficient or the right way to go about handling this but I could be wrong.

Technical Site Questions
When i do a google cache of our site, i see 2 menus, our developers say that's because the 2nd is for the mobile menu - is that correct, as when i look up other sites that have mobile rendering they only have one menu visible. Plus GWT's has the number of internal links per page at least x2 what they should have - are they connected? Secondly when i do a spider test through http://tools.seobook.com/general/spider-test/ it shows all "behind the scenes text" eg font names, portals, sliders, margins - "font size px" is shown as 17 times and a density of 2.15% - surely this isnt correct as google will be thinking that these are my keywords !? My site is www.over50choices.co.uk Thanks Ash

E-Commerce Selling Air Filter. Only 3 Qualities Options in 50 Sizes, Total 150 items. HELP!!!
My online store is selling air furnace filters. We only have 3 different filters to sell. (standard, mid-range quality and high quality) Each filters is available in 50 different sizes. This is a TOTAL of 150 products or 3 products with 50 options!!! My store is setup with the ''150 products'' option. MY PROBLEMS: All the page Title are the same, only the filter is change in the page title. ex: 10x20x1 furnace filters - shop at furnace filters canada 12x20x1 furnace filters - shop at furnace filters canada 14x20x1 furnace filters - shop at furnace filters canada ect... It is the same with the Meta Description, all the same only the size change. It is the same with the product description, all the same, only the size is changing. Trying to come out with 150 different page title, meta and product description is almost impossible. And you know like me, most shoppers will use there filters sizes in there keywords search term or phrase. YES, I have duplicate content all over my store. Is there a solution to this? This is my online store http://www.furnacefilterscanada.com/ Thank you, BigBlaze

Panda/Penguin & more than one services site in niche
Hello, My friend has a personal development training site. I have been advised not to make separate personal coaching sites for the owners of the training sites. Do you have experience that Panda/Penguin could penalize for separate sites in a similar niche? Do you need any more info to give a good response? Thank you.

Site changes lead to big questions
I'm making some changes to my business that will cause me to move my blog to a new domain. The existing site will serve as a sales campaign for our full service programs and I want to keep visitors focused on that campaign. The old site will serve much like a mini site with a sales letter and video sales letter. In moving the blog content to another page - I found a post from Rand from a few years ago http://www.seomoz.org/blog/expectations-and-best-practices-for-moving-to-or-launching-a-new-domain. The way I wanted to approach this was to remove the content from the old site, and then resubmit the site map to Google for indexing. Of course they'll notice that the blog pages are gone. (probably a load of 404's) After perhaps a week, I'd repost the content (about 50 posts) on the new domain, which will be little more than a blog. I'd like some input on the way to approach this. Should I... a) Follow Rand's formula? b) Go with my idea (sort of the brute force model)? c) Consider an alternative method? It's probably worth mentioning that none of these posts have high search engine rankings. I appreciate your input Mozzers!

$1,500 question
I have $1,500 to spend to promote 8 years old website. Almost no SEO work was done for the site in the past 3-4 years. The site has a couple hundreds (around 300) external backlinks pointing to the homepage, and around 30 backlinks pointing to internal pages. It gets around 60% traffic from referring sites, 30% direct, and 10% from SE. The homepage has PR 4. It ranks around 70th place in Google rankings for one of the main keywords. No keyword research has been done for the site. Looking for long term benefits. What would be the best way, in your opinion, to spend this money?
