Why is our website not generating organic traffic?
-
Our website is struggling to generate organic traffic over the past few months and we're lost as to why.
It's a relatively new site. It's mobile friendly, all products have meta descriptions and product images have alt tags. Content is added regularly.
Site speed could be better and alt tags need to be added to images on the blog but other than that we're stumped.
Does anyone have any suggestions?
-
We;ve found that the large dip in traffic coincides with the change from http to https, but as far as we can see we've done everything correctly when making the change.
-
Thanks for your response!
We haven't been hit by any manual penalties, although I am noticing a large and sudden drop in our Index Status...
-
How close does the dip in traffic correlate to the new site design going live? Was it just a re-skin or did URL paths and/or content on the site actually change? In addition to checking your Google Analytics (or equivalent) Id check Webmaster Tools for the Search Analytics report to see if any loss in traffic from specific keywords can be tallied back to the site launch. This could be more of a technical issue than a content one if so.
It could still be external factors of course, have you been tracking any of your competitors, have they been more active of late?
Losing traffic is very different to struggling to get traffic in the first place, so thanks for clarifying!

To clarify, I meant to say that it's a relatively new site design. We've been on the web for years and only recently suffered a dip in organic traffic that we can't reverse.

Hi, I appreciate this must be very frustrating for you!
There are any number of reasons why you could be struggling to generate organic traffic. My first port of call would be to check your Google Webmaster Tools to check if you've been hit by a manual penalty before you do anything else.
When you say "Content is added regularly", what are you doing to promote that content? It's unlikely it's going to help you rank on it's own if people are unaware of it. Also, does your content have that "wow" factor which people would be inclined to share? Find yourself a unique standpoint then promote your content through channels where your customers are online. Try not to churn out content for the sake of having content, you're (arguably) more likely to have success by really concentrating on content (so, it doesn't have to just be text in a blog) which can't be found anywhere else and provides value which your competitors can't easily replicate.

How to manage user profiles in your website?
We have a real estate website in which agents and builders can create their profiles. My question is shall we use h1 or h2 tags in business profile pages or make them according to web 2.0 standards? In case header tags are used, if two agents have the same name and we have used h2 tag for them, then search result page will end up having two same h2's. Can someone please tell me the right way to manage business profiles in a website? Thanks

Website Not Performing after switch to HTTPS
We recently switched our client's website to HTTPS but after the move, we've experienced a huge decrease in rankings (off the map), and traffic. Our metas for the homepage are not being picked up by Google, although it was appearing correctly before the switch. We've implemented all redirects, resubmitted URL to Google, and updated GSC. GSC is also reporting errors in our XML stating there are no URLs to crawl. Has anyone had any issues similar? What do you all recommend? Help greatly appreciated

Should my website be accessible by IP?
I have been doing some digging in to this today essentially triggered off by looking at the secure certificate on my site and comparing it to others as i have been seeing some security warnings on a random basis. I noticed that on all instances none of the other sites IP addresses re-direct to the website, whereas on my site it does. is re-directing the IP address to the website a big no-no?

Is adwords data in organic ranking relevant?
we have noticed that without our adwords, our bounce rate is about half (outstanding rate) as compared to when we enable adwords (relatively bad). This of course amplifies across the board for other engagement metrics. So basically it looks like our website is not deemed too relevant and engaging when we bring in PC as compared to organic views. Does anyone have information if the search engines use this data without correcting out the PC visitors brought through adwords? this would mean to us that without having adwords we have a much better chance of ranking organically. very curious about what your experiences are as experts! Thank you in advance! Cheers, Nima

Big Drop in Traffic, No change in Position
Penguin 2.0 was a great update for one of my biggest client. A website that was using terrible black hat techniques and ranked first on the most important keyword in my clients niche got kickt from the SERP's and my client jumped from 4th to 1st. The jump in traffic was enormous and on top of that 5% of the traffic converted instead of the usual 2,5%- 3% on other traffic. Untill July 2nd. Traffic from the keyword dropped by 80% while we were still in position 1, after a lot of digging I thaught I found what caused it, Google booted the keyword from their autofill. My question is if anyone has seen a removal from tthe autocomplete making that big of a difference in search volume.

Ajax website and SEO
Hi all, A client of mine has a website similar to Pintrest. All in Ajax/. So imagine an ajax-grid based animal lover site called domain.com. The domain has three different Categories Cats, Dogs, Mice. When you click on a category, the site doesn't handle the URL and doesn't change the domain So instead of the domain going from domain.com to domain.com/cats, it uses the Ajax script and just shows all the cat pins. and when you click on each pin/post it opens a page such as domain.com/Pin/123/PostTitle It doesn't reference the category. However a page domain.com/cats does exist and you can go there directly. Is this an SEO issue for not grouping all pins under a category? How does Google handle Ajax these days, it use to be real bad but if Pintrest is going so well i'm assuming times have changed? Any other things to be wary of for a grid based/ajax site? I am happy to pay for an hour or two for a more in depth audit/tips if you can feed back on the above. Fairly urgent. Thanks

Need advice for indexing a multilingual website
We are in the process of creating a Spanish subdomain of our website. I want to know what needs to be done in regard to meta tags, sitemap.xml and robots.txt so that Google and Bing will index both website properly and not causing the web page on the English site to lost rank. Our English site is www.mydomain.com with the Spanish site being es.mydomain.com We are planning to put a button or link on both sites so that visitors can switch between both sites. The two sites are similar but not all pages are mirror images.
