Multiple Keywords for a site
-
I have a client that is OBSESSED with KWP ranking (don't go there...I know)
This client offers multiple services, dog boarding, dog grooming, dog training, dog daycare and dog walking. Essentially these are our focus. She ranks on page one for all of these words (locally of course) BUT she wants to rank in positions 1 and 2 for all of these words.
Here's my rub, with her limited budget, we focus on 1 word (and associated long tails like "dog boarding in the south loop) and it takes a couple of months to zoom up to positions 1 or 2 (not counting map pack....she wants ORGANIC) While we're focusing on this 1 word, the others maintain their ranking or slip a few spots (like from 6 to
Conversions average about about 1 a day, organic traffic is roughly 1000 hits a month.
In your opinion is it better to split this focus between the 5 target words every month, more slowly building ranking, but maintaining it for longer periods of time. Or do it the way we have been chase dog boarding, then chase training, and so on. It just seems like we are CONSTANTLY chasing something while something else falls.
Thanks

The tough thing here is that you're basically asking which is the less bad of two bad options.
That's rough; I feel for you. Personally, I'd advocate taking an approach like the topic-focused one in Cyrus Shepard's "Keywords to Concepts":
https://moz.com/blog/keywords-to-concepts
I know it's hard, but you'll be doing a great service to your client by educating her on why her tail-chasing approach is a waste of time. Otherwise, the two approaches you've described are pretty much equally ineffective, so flip a coin, my friend.

"Make her part of the solution, rather than being a problem." I like that a lot.
She needs to understand that focusing solely on one (or a few) keywords is chasing your tail. Google makes hundreds of changes a year - she's going to get knocked down, it's part of the game. I always prefer to win more keywords by doing broader work. Focus on the traffic from all your terms, than the rankings of one.
I've been there tons of times. Try a sit-down with her, talk about the change of focus and expectations. Show her analytics reports to back up a new direction. Create new KPIs. Try to get her excited about a new definition of success. That's what I would do
Make her part of the solution, rather than being a problem.

I am not going to answer your question directly, leave that to others. On the pages that slip, that suggests to me the domain authority is not strong enough yet for the website. Do you have a strong backlink program? If not, I would explain to her the importance of backlinks and anchor text, educate her and tell her to go earn some backlinks.
Make her part of the solution, rather than being a problem. Make her work! ps on question would do the latter... if time and dollar poor

Hyphens in Keyword
Hi everyone, I was wondering if anyone had any experience of whether Google treats keywords with hyphens differently. One of my websites main keywords is 'buy to let', however all across our website it is referred to as 'buy-to-let'. People always search without the hyphens. I recently heard that Google may only treat us as a highly relevant match and not an exact match for this keyword. I was wondering if anyone had any experience of this, and what is the best course of action to take. Thanks

How To Optimize A Page For Multiple Keywords
Hi Guys, In this video by Brian Dean he talks about how to go about optimising for multiple keywords. He basically said the main factors for optimising a page for multiple keywords are the following: Identify other keywords with same search intent as your primary keyword. Add them to title tag strategically, don't stuff them in there. Add as many of those keywords as h2 tags into the content, again when it makes sense. Are there any other more advanced ways you can use to optimize a page for multiple keywords with same search intent that could be good? Any suggestions would be very much appreciated! Cheers.

Is my site penalized by Google?
Let's say my website is aaaaa.com and company name is aaaaa Systems. When I search Google aaaaa my site do not come up at all. When I search for "aaaaa Systems" it comes up. But in WMT I see quite a few clicks from aaaaa as keyword. Most of the traffic is brand keywords only. I never received any manual penalty in WMT ever. Is the site penalized or regular algorithm issues?

Plural versions of keywords
I am a Magician and optimising my site for local seo mainly. I would imagine this will affect any local business but I woule like some input from the community on how to handle variations of the same keyword. e.g I am a Magician and I am based in Hampshire So I have created a page for Hampshire and from previous keyword research optimised it of Magician Hampshire. However there are many more variations of the keyword. e.g Magicians Hampshire, Magicians in Hampshire, Hampshire Magician, Magician in Hampshire, Close up Magicians in Hampshire, Hampshire Magicians, Magicians near Hampshire, Local Hampshire Magicians. The list goes on but I can not find an answer on wether I should have a separate page/blog post for each of these keywords or include them in the same page. If I include them in the same page how to not make it spammy I am sure this is the same for electricians, dentists, hairdressers etc so am hoping there is a common answer to a problem that has been puzzling me for a long time Many Thanks Roger

Why does this site rank above us?
We own www.discountbannerprinting.co.uk and over the last 8 months have built some decent guest post, charity and customer links but still we seem to be beaten on good words such as banners, banner, vinyl banner, pvc banner etc by this website www-signfirm.com we just cannot figure out how this is happening and would be very grateful if someone with great wisdom could give us an in-site into why this is happening and we would be very grateful..

Meta Keywords: Should we use them or not?
I am working through our site and see that meta keywords are being used heavily and unnecessarily. Each of our info pages will have 2 or 3 keyword phrases built into them. Should we just duplicate the keyword phrases into the meta keyword field, should put in additional keywords beyond or not use it at all? Thoughts and opinions appreciated
