Brand name as H1 on every page
-
Hi,
Along with the title of each page, a Wordpress client has their brand name as a H1 on every single page. This is situated in the footer and just sits within the company info/address. Should these tags be removed, leaving just the page titles as H1s?
Cheers,
Lewis

what is your advice about my website:
my website is related to Bosch home appliances and the H1 tag of my pages is without brand name now. It is my question is it better to have H1 tag with brand name or no?
Bosch dishwasher Or dishwasher
It is one page of my website as an example:
-
Ideally, the H1 tag will explain what the page is about, an action the visitor should take, the value the page provides, the question the page addresses, ETC.
Mirroring the page title as the H1 on a form or conversion page isn't a very good idea either, even if the page has no bearing on your SEO.
As an example, look at the phrase: "Organization" TV Commercial: Join "Organization"
where "Organization" represents a name, like "Red Cross", Insane Clown Posse", "Young Democrats", or "PETA"I think you would agree that it's a pretty awful header on a donation form that you drive direct traffic to via TV commercials. This phrase makes more sense as the title of the page, but not as your page header.

Hi John. Most pages do have the keyword or page title as the H1 at the top of the page, but I was just worried about the brand name as a second H1 on every page.
-
I would be more seo orientated than that. Can you use a keyword or second keyword as the H1 tag - for each page? Place it above the fold, so it tells customers what the page is about? That might be the page titles but just checking...
-
Thanks all. I'll get rid of these immediately and just have the page titles as the H1.

First, an H1 should pretty much never be in the footer. H1 tags are meant to be the lead-in for the page and the content therein. It should tell visitors and Google what your page is about, using keywords if possible. That said, there isn't inherently anything wrong with having 2 or 3 H1 tags if your page is long and has several different bits of content that don't fall under one category.
Second, while it's important for a company's name and brand to be relatively prominent on a website, having it on every page as an H1 tag is extremely excessive. If I saw it as a user, I'd think it's not only spammy, but strange since it's presumably in other prominent places on the site (in the header, content, some H tags, etc).
I strongly recommend that you remove these H1 tags from your footer and, if having the brand name within pages is something your client really wants, have it placed more organically in the content.

H1's in my experience are influential in the seo armoury. Ideally it should be above the fold, a good sized font and identify what the page is about.
Here is a previous post setting out some discussion on H1's. .

You will have an easy seo win by fixing up the H1 on each page. Hope this assists.

You shouldn't be having more than one H1 tag on the page so really the H1 tag should be for the page title. Don't use it for the Company name.

Too many on page links
Yes this question again. I know it get's asked a lot and I know of a few fixes, but this one I'm having a problem with. So we have a fan gallery on our site which is not only causing duplicate page titles, which I'm thinking we can fix with a canonical, but also too many on page links. The issue is this is on drupal which I have very little experience with and it seems to just be located within the fan galleries section of the site. After looking at a few things I know that no-follow wont be an option since from what I read it wont really work anyway so I was wondering if anyone else has an asnwer. I just read through a million articles trying to find a simular situation and can't seem to find anyone with the same thing. It might have something to do with the plugins the programmers used, but my inexperience with drupal is making this difficult. Thanks guys.

What can be the cause of my inner pages ranking higher than my home page?
If you do a search for my own company name or products we sell the inner pages rank higher than the homepage and if you do a search for exact content from my home page my home page doesn't show in the results. My homepage shows when you do a site: search so not sure what is causing this.

SEOMoz is indicating I have 40 pages with duplicate content, yet it doesn't list the URL's of the pages???
When I look at the Errors and Warnings on my Campaign Overview, I have a lot of "duplicate content" errors. When I view the errors/warnings SEOMoz indicates the number of pages with duplicate content, yet when I go to view them the subsequent page says no pages were found... Any ideas are greatly welcomed! Thanks Marty K.

If you only want your home page to rank, can you use rel="canonical" on all your other pages?
If you have a lot of pages with 1 or 2 inbound links, what would be the effect of using rel="canonical" to point all those pages to the home page? Would it boost the rankings of the home page? As I understand it, your long-tail keyword traffic would start landing on the home page instead of finding what they were looking for. That would be bad, but might be worth it.

Too many on page links for WP blog page
Hello, I have set my WP blog to a page so new posts go to that page making it the blog. On a SEOmoz campaign crawl, it says there are too many links on one page, so does this mean that as I am posting my blog posts to this page, the search engines are seeing the page as one page with links instead of the blog posts? I worry that if I continue to add more posts (which obviously I want to) the links will increase more and more, meaning that they will be discounted due to too many links. What can I do to rectify this? Many thanks in advance

Recently revamped site structure - now not even ranking for brand name, but lots of content - what happened? (Yup, the site has been crawled a few times since) Any ideas? Did I make a classic mistake? Any advise appreciated :)
I've completely disappeared off Google - what happened? Even my brand name keyword does not bring up my website - I feel lost, confused and baffled on what my next steps should be. ANY advice would be welcome, since there's no going back to the way the site was set up.
