Time to Separate Company Websites or Keep it on One Domain?
-
Hey Everyone!
I am completely stumped with what I should do for the scenario I find myself in… I’m hoping with your experience, you could guide me into the right direction.
Let’s say our current website is Brown.com (Brown Group Inc.). We have a splash page, which links to two subfolders Brown Minerals (Brown.com/Minerals) and Brown Pet Products (Brown.com/Pet). Both of these are separate companies but owned by Brown Group Inc. Each company specializes in different industries, sell different products, have different customers and have different marketing. The only common thing the two companies have is the brand name “Brown” and owned by the same person.
Brown Group Inc.
(Brown.com)Brown Minerals
(Brown.com/Minerals)Brown Pet Products
(Brown.com/Pet)I work specifically for Brown Minerals. It is my job to develop a new website, build traffic to our website, improve our SEO rankings and to build the Brown Minerals online brand. I am afraid that the work I will be putting into building our online brand may not be as effective since we share the same domain name with Brown Pet Products, which their website is outdated, they have their own traffic, links, etc. specifically for their products & industry.
My question is, should we keep both websites in subfolders on the existing domain name or should we separate the websites and put them on their own domain names (BrownMinerals.com and BrownPetProducts.com)?
Thank you

Hi Christy,
Thanks for taking the time to reply. Great feedback and recommendation to pursue building out each company website with it's own domain. Thank you!

Hi there, thanks for your question! As the companies otherwise operate independently and it doesn't make sense to to cross-market the products under an umbrella brand, I would build out each company's website on its own domain.

Grabbed up some branded domains now what
With the recent release of gtlds I was waiting to pick up a .clothing for a client. For some strange reason something came over me and I ended up buying 10 domains of brandname.clothing domains of well know brands. I'm no cybersquatter but just an aspiring SEO and sell these brand's clothing products online. As I learn more about the legal issues I'm wondering what to do .Do I cancel domains with godaddy? Will I be refunded? Do I contact rightful owner and offer them the domain at cost? Can I create a fan site of the products and sell advertising as I seen on many occasions? So confused what to do?

Usage of Frames within a Website
Hi Guys, I came across a client's website that was using frames, but the frames weren't showing data from another website, but other internal pages of the same site. 1 Page shows duplicate content, fetched from rest of the pages in the website. What would be the best solution for this?

What are some good organizations an SEO company can join that are strong trust signals?
We are working on a website redesign, and want to prominently include some trust signals that help people feel comfortable with us. We're including logos of a few places we've guest posted, and also the BBB and local chamber of commerce. Do you have any other ideas on logos we can include that are good trust signals? Any associations or organizations we could join? We are a trustworthy company, we just want a way to communicate that visually, and it seems organization seals and logos are the way to go. Thanks!
