Re: Auto Detection of Currency based on IP & Google SEO
-
Greetings to the fellow Moz community members!
On an e-commerce site, I am using a script to change the default currency of storefront based on IP detection ( GBP for UK visitors, CAD for Canadian visitors and so on).
My question is : can this create any problems at all in Google Crawling or Indexing? Will google be able to understand the setup?
I don't think this should trigger the "cloaking" or presenting different content to search engines vs users, but just want to double check from the collective wisdom here.
Thanks for reading, and wish you a good day ahead.
Warm Regards
Amit

Thanks for taking the time out to reply Umar, and I understand your point.
Just the currency sign and the amount will change - nothing else at all. Didn't understand the bit about playing with the "currency converter" (unless you mean experimenting with it to drive major onsite changes - in which case the answer is NO).
Cheers

Amit,
I do no think Google will consider it as a cloaking unless you're just playing with your "Currency Converter."
If the content and other layout will change based on the IP, then you need to take some serious measurements. For this, check out these useful guides:

Google + and Google Knoladge Graph
I am trying to get things to match up for the company brand websearch and the Google + page and we have had it for years now The knowledge graph on Google is showing the map, address and name (shown in attached image), but is not linked to a G+ page, as when i click the "Are you the business owner?" its is trying to make me create a new G+ business page. Anyone have any ideas on this? Also does the wiki name have to be exact for it to show? As for phone number would that be coming from the DNS record as that is nowhere in the markup rich snippet or normal markup Thanks in advance LC9cWdG

Does Google differentiate between a site with spammy link building practices from a victim of a negative SEO attack?
I've be tasked with figuring out how to recover our rankings as we are likely being hurt by an algorithmic penalty. I have no idea if this was the workings of a previously hired SEO or the result of negative SEO, **how does Google differentiate between a site with bad/spammy link building practices from a victim of a negative SEO attack? **

Base href
I'm having a discussion with a third party that's building a website for a client that I advised concerning his SEO. The site went live 2 weeks ago and it's not getting indexed very well, so my client asked me what could be the problem. I checked several things that could be the problem, like an xml sitemap that was missing etc. But there was another thing that I saw in the source code: <base href="http://www.domain.com/"> Can this be a problem for Google to follow internal links? I always thought that you should use the base href like this: <base href="http://www.domain.com"> so without the trailing / behind the TLD And even better using absolute instead of relative links, no?

Meta description showing in source code but not being detected by SEO Moz or other tools?
Hello fellow SEO enthusiasts, Re www.appetise.com Our developers have added a meta description and I can see it when I right click on pages to 'view source' as follows : Example : BUT - using the on page seo assessment tool on SEO Moz (and also using other tools which assess title, description and keyword optimisation) - they are telling us that the meta description is not present. Please could someone suggest why? If we can get the meta description picked up - we will reach A Grade for our core pages! And this will make us feel good - and hopefully shine through in our results :-). Any help greatly appreciated.
