Thousands of Missing Links in OSE Report
-
Hi there,
Moz reports 70k+ external links pointing to my site but when I use the Open Site Explorer to export all links, I only see 9,000+
I have tried combining different combinations of fields ('this root domain', 'this subdomain', 'all links' etc) but can never see more than 9,000 links.
My website does redirect to www. and have a couple of subdomains, the report for non www. only shows around 120 external links.
We also use Ahrefs and the crawl reports here display 40k+ links (on the dashboard and when exported) which makes me believe the problem is not with my website but rather OSE.
Any help is much appreciated,
Thanks,
Jason

Thanks Patrick,
I talked to Moz Support and this is what they said:
Hi there! Great question. Unfortunately, a limitation of our API is that we can only export the top 25 links from each linking root domain. This means that if the majority of your links are coming from a small number of domains, we would only be able to export a small percentage of your links. This includes internal links as well as external links. This process ensures that you have a wider range of data from all domains linking to you in the CSV rather than a focus on data from a couple of domains. If you want a full export of link metrics, you may want to take a look at our API to set up your own calls.
I'm embarrassed to say I didn't even think of using the Google Search Console! Will be doing so now haha.
Thanks,
Jason

Hi there
Rand, in another Q+A thread, recently discussed Moz's index becoming smaller than prior ones. You can read that more here.
I highly recommend pulling from multiple sources, you seem to be doing so already with Ahref. I also recommend:
Majestic
Google Search ConsoleIt will give you a more detailed look at your backlink profile since one vendor's data set is different than others.
Hope this helps! Good luck!

Why is Link Explorer showing the same domain strength for domain and sub-domain? Shouldn't it be different?
I believe in the past the sub-domain score was different than the domain score in Link Explorer. Now I am seeing that it is reporting the same score. I have to use exact page to get a sense of how strong the sub-domain is.

Drop in DA and PA and lost a load of links
Hi Mozzers, I just check a site in OSE and while the inbound domains are up the total links have dropped and therefore DA and PA. How can I find which links have gone. I'm assuming a domain passing 1000's of links has either gone down or broken the link - can I use the ISE tool to fine which links have been recently broken? I know there is just discovered for new links. If not can you recommend a tool please. Thanks

Help needed interpreting inbound link analysis please
Hi I am trying to determine how effective our store blog is and am trying to analyse the inbound links it provides to our store domain but am confused with the results, can anyone help please? For information the blog is on a subdomain of the store site, has plenty of relevant original content, and has been regularly updated over several years in line with basic Yoast SEO best practice. When I look at analysis of inbound links and linking domains for the store site in Moz Pro, the blog subdomain does not show as providing any inbound links. Google Search Console shows similar results, with no inbound links to the store domain showing from the blog subdomain in either 'search traffic > links to your site', or 'search traffic > inbound links'. Open Site Explorer for the store domain also shows no inbound links from the blog subdomain to the store with 'link source > only external' selected. But if I change to 'link source > only internal' then all of the inbound links from the blog subdomain to the main store that I would expect to see appear. Should I be concerned by the fact I can only find these inbound links under this one specific search and not in any of the others? Does this suggest a problem in the passing of any current and future SEO benefit from subdomain blog to main domain? Or should I not worry about it too much? I am looking to begin a full overhaul of all SEO for the store and blog from the ground up and want to be sure the connections between the blog subdomain and store are functioning properly before I start. Any help in unpicking this would be really appreciated Thanks very much

Moz showing +3M new inbound links. But nowhere to find them?
Hi there Moz is showing a +3M backlink rise in the dashboard for one of our domains. The site has always had around 350K backlinks and in Ahrefs and Majestic it still shows this number. But Moz shows a growth of +3M in the last two weeks. Is there a way to see where these backlinks come from in OSE? I can't seem to understand how it is possible to see this somehow. Can it be a mistake of Moz maybe?

Not existing domains linking to my website (spam)
Hello, When i run my platform www.taobao.nl through https://moz.com/researchtools/ose/ i see a lot of nasty adult domains that link to my platform. These give a very negative (spam)score to my platform. I already disavowed quite a few via Webmastertools, but they keep coming. When i check the names in the Whois, they don't even seem to exist! (anymore) What could cause this and how can i end it?? Thanks for your help! Sander

How long will it take for the changes we've made to reflect in Moz OSE spam score data?
I signed up for Moz to see the spam flags our site had triggered. As soon as I found out, we worked on it and have been trying to correct our mistakes but it's been more than a month and we've managed to neutralise zero flags. I would appreciate if someone can clarify how long the OSE data takes to refresh. Also, how do you combat the following three specific flags: Ratio of Followed to Nofollowed Subdomains Ratio of Followed to Nofollowed Domains Low Number of Pages Found Crawl only gets a valid response to a small number of pages. Thanks.

Discrepancy between OSE internal links and Webmaster Tools
Hi, We have been attempting to increase our rankings for our key term for a number of months now, and we are seeing an unusual discrepancy between OSE and Webmaster Tools that we believe may be causing us harm. OSE shows our homepage, www.unionroom.com, as having only 27 internal links (only three of these aren't 301's too), whereas Webmaster Tools is showing just over 1,500 internal links to the homepage. The three pages that OSE are displaying as linking back to the homepage are the homepage, our blog and our accessibility page. These pages are all ran off the same template and have the same header and footer (with three home links spread across header and footer). You can see our confusion! Is this a case of OSE's stats being incorrect (the website has been live for ~6 months) or is there an issue with our in-linking structure that we are missing? Thanks!

OSE and HTTPS
It's been quite a few months since the last updates regarding HTTPS crawling of OpenSiteExplorer. https://seomoz.zendesk.com/entries/20770156-open-site-explorer-to-crawl-https http://moz.com/community/q/in-opensiteexplorer-why-is-https-not-an-option But, as the last update dates October 2013, is there any news in regards to the progress on this subjects? More and more sites are switching to full HTTPS and support for this has been asked and responded upon for over two years. Thanks for any updates.
