Navigational Change

Morning Mozzers,
Currently our website has 2 navigation bars.
The top Navigation is the typical **Home - Products - Services - Contact - About **type thing
The side navigation contains a link to top level categories, if a category is selected it shows the child categories
Eg.Socks
Shoes
BootsCateogry level (Socks)
Blue Socks
Red Socks
Green SocksThe top navigation has drop-down menus built in whilst the side nav does not.
Would it be worthwhile to edit the nav bars so that the top nav bar contains the categories with the child categories displaying in dropdown list when clicked.

Home - Socks - Shoes - Boots when hovering over socks you would seeSocks
Blue Socks
Red Socks
Green SocksMy reasons for the change I could remove the thin content "Products page"
It would add a link to the categories and sub categories from every page on the website as it would be in the top navigation bar i think this would help with ranking for some of the sub-category pages that struggle.
It would allow me to remove the left nav bar on the homepage, moving more content above the fold and give the website a more modern feel.
What do you think? Is would this be a positive or negative change?

Assuming the links you add to the top navigation are followable href links I think this sounds like a good idea for the reasons you state, as well as sounding more mobile and tablet friendly. It would be good to see the site though.

Website redesign- change of server . What to do with old site? Keep for a while or delete right away?
Hey Mozzers, Two days ago, we redesigned our website and changed the server at the same time to get faster loading times. Here is what we have done. The old site was hosted on ipage, new site with a new design hosted on UPCLOUD. We changed the A record to the new server, uploaded a new site, submitted a new sitemap to Google Search console, 301 redirected all old URLs to new ones, most have changed a bit. Old URLs were ending with " .html "the new ones do not have that at the end. Submitted AMP pages to Google as well. Now here is my question. Should we delete the old site completely from ipage or should we keep it for a while? Google has indexed the new URLs that were created with the redesign, these URLs did not exist on the old site. But it still shows most of the old URLs on SERPs (these are URLs that have been 301 redirected to a new equivalent page) I understand 2 days is not very long for Google to get everything right, but I am not sure what we should do with the old site? Keep it or get rid of it to help Google index the new one only. FYI every single old URL that appears on Google search when clicked on will take you to the right place, we made sure there are no 404s at all. As this is very important to our business and we get most of it from Google I want to make sure we do it right for SEO purposes. The agency that designed the site did not really know the answer to that question, as they do not have SEO specialists. Please help, any input you might have will be greatly appreciated.

Changing Platforms & HTTPS Same Time
Hi Everyone, We know this is a bad idea. Our owner purchased another website/company and we plan on moving it to Shopify. The site is a very old (not been updated in 4 years) Able Commerce site. My developer whom has been doing this for years with me couldn't get the current host to work with us in order to move the site to https. Looks like we would actually have to spend a lot of money to update the site in order to. So my question is this. If we move the site over to Shopify, they make it https right away. I am out of luck trying to redirect http pages to specific https pages? Jeff

Have you changed 100's of links on your site? Tell me the why's, the how's and what's!
Hello there. If you've changed 100's of links, then I'd like for you to contribute to this thread. I've created a new URL structure for a website with 500+ posts in an effort to make it more user friendly, and more accessible to crawlers. I was just about to pull the trigger, when I started reading up on the subject and found that I might have a few surprises waiting for me around the corner. The status of my site. 500 posts 10 different categories 50+ tags No Backlinks No recent hits (according to Google Analytics) No rankings. I'm going to keep roughly 75% of the posts, and put them in different (new) categories to strengthen SEO for the topic which I'd like to rank multiple categories for, and also sorted a list with content which I'd like to 410. Created new structure created new categories Compiled list of old URLs, and new URLs New H1, Meta Title & Descriptions New tags It looks simple on paper, but I've got problems executing it. **Question 1. **What do I need to keep in mind when deleting posts, categories, and tags - besides 410, Google URL removal? Question 2. What do I do with all the old posts that I am going to re-direct? Each post has between 10-15 internal links. I've started manually removing each link in old posts before 301'ing them. The reason I'm doing this is control the UX, as well as internal link juice to strengthen main categories. Am I on the right path? On a side note, I've prepared for the 301'ing by changing the H1's, meta data and adding alt text to images. But I can't help but to think that just deleting the old posts, and copying over the content to the new url (with the original dates set) would be a better alternative. Any contribution to this thread would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance.

Homepage Not Displaying Changes
I changed our homepage banner image, and the change shows up if I'm logged into site (it's a WP site). However, when I log out of WP and go to the site, the change doesn't display. I've cleared the cache's, tried different browsers and on different devices, but it only shows the updated version when I'm logged in. Why would that be? And, how can I "force" it to update? New Google SERPS design - What's Changed?
Has anyone noticed any fall out from the recent redesign of SERP pages by Google? I noticed that there appears to be one less organic result "above the fold" now, so if you were possibly in third or fourth position maybe slight dip in traffic? Any noticeable shift in click through rate with the new bigger font? Also, has anyone noticed if the new design has caused any shift in best practices for on-page meta data like Title tag and description tag counts? I know the Title tag was previously driven by the pixel width of the title in Google SERPS, just curious if that has changed with this redesign.

What Are The Hazards to Changing Over to Responsive Web Design?
We have recently re-programmed our website to Responsive Web Design. All the URLs have remained the same, all the content is unchanged. We have this new version sitting on a development server and are finding ourselves hesitant to make the changeover. Our rankings are great currently, and our question is whether or not there are any risks that we will incur by making this change. We would appreciate any advice on how to implement this change safely. Or if that's it's even possible to insure that there won't be ranking losses.

Please help. can't change widgets in wordpress
hey everyone, i am having a weird problem. for some reason. all of a sudden (without me changing ANYTHING) my widget page in the admin dashboard will not let me edit anything what i mean is, i login, go to the widgets page, and then the dropdown menus that you drag widgets into will not let me expand to drop widgets in them. was there a wordpress update i missed? who should i contact? what if i delete the theme and re-install. will i have to change ALL the settings back again?
