No-indexed pages are still showing up as landing pages in Google Analytics
-
Hello,
My website is a local job board. I de-indexed all of the job listing pages on my site (anything that starts with http://www.localwisejobs.com/job/).
When I search site:localwisejobs.com/job/, nothing shows up. So I think that means the pages are not being indexed.
When I look in Google Analytics at Acquisition > Search Engine Optimization > Landing Pages, none of the job listing pages show up.
But when I look at Acquisition > Channels > Organic and then click Landing Page as the primary dimension, the /job pages show up in there.
Why am I seeing this discrepency in Organic Landing pages? And why would the /job pages be showing up as landing pages even though they aren't indexed?

I generally recommend meta noindex without blocking via robots.txt for reasons like this.
First, click secondary dimension and check out source / medium. Are they coming from Google? If all you did was use the remove tool on Google Webmaster Tools, Bing/Yahoo don't get the message yet.
Search engines cannot see a noindex tag on the page if they're blocked from crawling the page. They can't access the page to read the tag. So it can sit around in the index despite not having been crawled for a while. (Though usually it's removed eventually).
Also keep in mind that you see some landing page traffic from instances where GA fails to fire the first time. It's usually a VERY tiny percentage, but I often see traffic to some (virtual pageview) popups that can't even load without entering info on our site (e.g. it's not even a possible landing page).
Might I also ask why you removed the job listing from the index? I was thinking this might be a good time to use rather than blocking crawlers outright. That assumes, of course, that you keep listing up for a fixed time. If you know when the job listing is going to expire, you can just tell the search engine. They might even send some traffic to your individual listings while live.

Not completely relevant, but might be good to be aware of this, the site is serving me a HTTP authentication form to login into your domain on port 80 when I visit the site.

We'd find the landing page in organic landing page reports as something like:
http://www.blablahsitewhatever.com/landingpage?s=bing|display|20150826
instead of
http://www.blablahsitewhatever.com/landingpageIt's clearly not an organic hit since it came through a paid channel, and yet gets classified as organic. (We got around it by building a custom report for organic landing pages that specifically filters out landing pages with those extra parameters.) So from this we know it's entirely possible for traffic to be misattributed as organic when it's clearly not. But unless you can clearly see it in the URL like that, it's really hard to suss out.

Thanks Rebecca. We removed via Manual removal using Google Webmaster Console AND added a noindex entry in robotos.txt. When you say the "organic landing page had campaign parameters attached specific to paid Bing campaigns" where were these campaign parameters attached? In the URL leading to the page from the paid source or in a link embedded somewhere in the page or in some analytics javascript that was firing somewhere or something else?

How exactly did you do the no-index? Robots.txt? Meta robots tag? Manual removal via Google Webmaster Console?
Beyond that, I have seen some paid traffic misattributed as organic before, which we caught because the organic landing page had campaign parameters attached specific to paid Bing campaigns.

Google Analytics Automated Reporting
HI all, I tend to do a big reporting powerpoint deck using screenshots from google analytics and tables I create year end and mid year. It's like an 80 page report for the 10 webisite swe have and then I go ahead and make annotations as I see from the data. That being said this can take a lot of time, up to a 40 hours of time to pull it all together or more which is challenging when you have daily meetings. Anyhow, I've looked into automating and tried a couple things: 1. Tableau- but it keeps crashing and seems tedious 2. Dashlane and supergrabber- seem a bit tedious to set up too. Anyone have ideas on how to better shar ereporting in the organization in this type of format for a website (websites)? Organic, paid, traffic, etc. Laura

Conflicting data in Google Analytics
Hi Guys I've been looking at the data for a client in Google analytics and I was wondering if anyone knows why some of the data doesn't tally up. In my case its the following: Under Aquisition
Reporting & Analytics | | Relative
No of Sessions for a Keyword shown in Organic Search tab (compared to)
No of Clicks for a Query in the Search Engine Optimisation tab For example, for a brand term, Google are showing 17 Sessions in Organic Search.
For the same term Google are showing 90 Clicks in the Queries section of Search Engine Optimisation OK, we know that Google are a little cloak and dagger regarding keyword data but surely Sessions and Clicks for the same keyword should be identical unless I'm missing something.0 -
Identifying Bots in Google Analytics
Hi there, While you can now filter out bots and spiders in Google Analytics, I'm interested in how you identify a bots and spiders in the first place. For example, it used to be thought that Googlebot wouldn't appear in GA as it 'couldn't process Javascript' but now Google has announced new developments for its crawler with regards to interpreting javascript and CSS, this argument isn't as cut and dry. I'm not suggesting Googlebot appears in Google Analytics, but I am saying that you can't make the case that it won't appear only because it can't interpret JavaScript. So, I'm interested to see what metrics you use to identify a bot? For me, the mix of Users > Browser, Users > Operating System Version is still quite handy, but is it possible to identify individual bots and spiders within Google Analytics? And would Googlebot appear?

Google Analytics complexe solution?
Hello, We have Google Analytics on our website and we have started to track the conversions.
Reporting & Analytics | | lunacloud
Basically we have a goal with 3 steps: Account Details (Personal Information) Confirmation (Mobile Confirmation Code) Email ( confirmation link) On the last step (Destination Goal) we send an email to the customer with the account confirmation link, the tracking works perfectly. Our problem is with the Goal Completions on "Traffic Sources" >> "AdWords" >> "Campaigns", Analytics doesn't add the conversions. This problem is related to the email confirmation? There is any solution to overcome this problem? Thank you! yzujFZU.png f4fay1G.png0 -

301 Tracking with Google Analytics hurts SEO?
Hey guys, I have an old-domain.com and a new-domain.com. old-domain.com has reputation and through a 301 redirect it's handling it over to new-domain.com. I want to know how many people still visit old-domain.com and track this with Google Analyitcs. I read the best solution for this would be a Google Campaign URL. My question: Does a URL like "http://www.new-domain.com /?utm_source=&utm_medium=redirect&utm_campaign=" hurt the effectiveness of the 301 redirect?

Can you filter referring keywords in Google Analytics by language?
Hi All! So yes, I know that you can see/filter the language that the computer or browser was set to (en-us, ru, fr, etc.), but if you look at the keywords used by visitors falling under "fr", some are in English. Is there any way to get, say, just the keywords in Russian - regardless of what the visitor's browser language was set to? Thanks! Aviva
