Two spelling of a domain
-
I have a customer with two spellings of their domain name.
I set up an account for spelling A and forwarded all the email boxes to spelling B becuase people tend to remember spelling A more of the time. Spelling B is the real web site.
I also want any www. traffic for spelling A to go to spelling B so I used this .htaccess file in the root of spelling A
Options +Indexes +FollowSymLinks
RewriteEngine On
RewriteRule ^(.*)$ http://www.B.com/$1 [R=301,L]I use to just forward A to B from the registrar but made this change to allow for email spelled either way.
My question is does this create a duplicate site issue for the bots? Is this in anyway an SEO negative and if so is there a better way to do this.
Thanks

I could turn it off each night and turn it on in the am...LOL ...or better yet redirect it to google.com each night and redirect to the real site in the am.
The 301 works fine no matter the page. Chances are most people would only type www.a.com and all the backlinks are to www.b.com (the real site)...
The actually site is at the incorrect spelling....but it is a common misspelling.
Thanks for the help.... I did not want to get goowacked for a simple thing. That is a good new verb ...goowacked. If you run out and regiester the term ....send me my royalties.
Cheers

As long as your redirect is working then it doesn't create a problem for the bots. They can read the 301 redirect.
.....Now if you want to confuse the bots a bit then use a 302. And then turn the site on and off at leisure. Kidding...

How to get the most value out of an additional domain?
Hi, My company domain is wire.com. We recently also acquired wire.chat domain What's the best way to get value out of that additional domain? Wire is a messaging platform so "chat" is relevant but "wire chat" is not really a high volume term We don't have a whole lot of content, certainly no resources to build out additional valuable website Is simply redirecting traffic the only sensible to thing given the above restriction? Any technical issues to be mindful of? Thanks, Siim

Spam flags for sub-domain
Hi Moz Community, I am reviewing our website via MOZ and found the following issues: http://shopwindowcleaningresource.com/ 1. No Contact (please refer to the attached image). However, we have an up to date contact info on our website. We have social buttons at the footer, our telephone number is at the top and we have a contact us page. Any idea, why we are being rated as such and how to resolve it? Any help will be greatly appreciated, thanks in advance. 327M9Fc

Handling Multiple Restaurants Under One Domain
We are working with a client that has 2 different restaurants. One has been established since 1938, the other was opened in late 2012. Currently, each site has its own domain name. From a marketing/branding perspective, we would like to make the customers [web visitors] of the established restaurant aware of the sister restaurant. To accomplish this, we are thinking about creating a landing page that links to each restaurant. To do this, we would need to purchase a brand new URL, and then place each restaurant in a separate sub folder of the new URL. The other thought is to have each site accessed from the main new URL [within sub folders] and also point each existing URL to the appropriate sub folder for each restaurant. We know there are some branding and marketing hurdles with this approach that we need to think through/work out. But, we are not sure how this would impact their SEO––and assume it will not be good. Any thoughts on this topic would be greatly appreciated.

Registering expired domains
Hi there, I've found a good domain that is available for a new project. It has been expired for about 4 months or so. It has a couple of links, with the domain name as an anchor, nothing horrible. Will buying a domain like this be safe from an seo perspective? I'm guessing it would be treated the same as buying a new domain that has never been registered before, Would I be right? Peter

Domain Aliases
Hi there, I've got two sites mysite.com and mysite.org .org is indexed by google, .com doesnt seem to be. .com is used for some material that is sent out, and accounts for about 20% of incoming visotors. (80% end up on .org) Is there any positive or negative effect from this? Would I benefit from 301'ing the .com to .org?

Conserving Link Equity When Purchasing a Domain
Suppose you were interested in buying a successful blog with lots of powerful links and they offered to sell you the domain but none of the content. Do you have any tips for conserving the link equity when buying the domain? (Note: about half of the inbound links are to the homepage and the plan is to relaunch the site with new content.)

New Sub-domains or New Directories for 10+ Year Domain?
We've got a one-page, 10+ year old domain that has a 65/100 domain authority that gets about 10k page views a day (I'm happy to share the URL but didn't know if that's permitted). The content changes daily (it's a daily bible verse) so most of this question is focused on domain authority, not the content. We're getting ready to provide translations of that daily content in 4 languages. Would it be better to create sub-domains for those translations (same content, different language) or sub-folders? Example: http://cn.example.com
Technical SEO | | ipllc
http://es.example.com
http://ru.example.com or http://example.com/cn
http://example.com/es
http://example.com/ru We're able to do either but want to pick the one that would give the translated version the most authority both now and moving forward. (We definitely don't want to penalize the root domain.) Thanks in advance for your input.0
