Mobile Meta Descriptions
-
Hi we have a e-commerce site on Magento.
A lot of the current current meta descriptions are over 120 characters, which is approximately what Google cuts off for mobile search.
We want to create mobile meta descriptions but where would we add them to the CMS and how do we tell Google to use the mobile meta description when the site is responsive.
Any suggestions would be very much appreciated!
Thanks,
Chris

Thomas is correct. To be clear are you only concerned about Mobile traffic? If yes, then it maybe beneficial to reduce your MD's to 120 characters. That said we test MD impacts on CTR each day and we do not see great differences if at all in CTR unless you put your CTA toward the end of the MD. The truncation in MD's has nominal effect generally.
The first 4 words of the MD have the highest impact on CTR. Recommend you try and ensure the keywords are therein, as they get boldened.
Also the mobile Title also displays differently (than desktop) which we have found can make a big difference in CTR if used properly. So also consider extracting increased value from your Title. Suggest use the entire 512 pixels. This is as the final two words of the title often drop down to centre of the page which has significant impact. On a desktop their value is nominal on CTR.
Hope that assists.

because your site is responsive it will supply the same description and title tag rather or not you are using mobile Or desktop.
The best tools for fixing this issue are in my opinion
deepcrawl.com ( $80 a month)
&
http://www.screamingfrog.co.uk/seo-spider/ (free for up to 500 URLs or I recommend the Pro version at £99.00 (Excl. VAT for one year)
each will help you find and fix
-
Page Titles – Missing, duplicate, over 65 characters, short, pixel width truncation, same as h1, or multiple.
-
Meta Description – Missing, duplicate, over 156 characters, short, pixel width truncation or multiple.
-
Page Title & Meta Description Width – This option provides the ability to control the character and pixel width limits in the SEO Spider filters in the page title and meta description tabs. For example, changing the minimum pixel width default number of ‘200’, would change the ‘Below 200 Pixels’ filter in the ‘Page Titles’ tab. This allows you to set your own character and pixel width based upon your own preferences.
Other – These options provide the ability to control the character length of URLs, h1, h2 and image alt text filters in their respective tabs. You can also control the max image size.
See
One way to check is using https://varvy.com/mobile/
https://varvy.com/titleandalttags.html
with screaming frog you can change the title tag and description knowing it will fit inside mobile then export it and imported into magento.
I hope this is of help please let me know if I can help anymore.
Sincerely,
Thomas

Still Need to Write Title & Description Tag?
My SEO has advised me that Google has stopped using title and description tags for search results and as such, it is no longer necessary to write specific title and description tags. I see that Yoast seems to pull text to create these tags and sometimes it looks like it reflects the best elements of the content, sometimes it does not. Should I be asking our SEO team to write dedicated title and description tags or is it best practices to leave it to the Yoast plugin? My SEO is of the opinion that writing these tags is not a productive use of time as Google will serve results based on the user inquiry rather than the content on his tags. It sounds logical but it would be reassuring to receive further confirmation of this. Thoughts?"

Now Desktop breadcrumb structure is getting visible on Google SRP, but when i check Mobile breadcrumb structure in Android Phone Google SRP, it is not visible. I have verified both code in schema structure tool. Is there any different schema code for mobile breadcrumb. Need any additional information regarding this, please send me your queries.0 -
Meta Robot Tag:Index, Follow, Noodp, Noydir
When should "Noodp" and "Noydir" meta robot tag be used? I have hundreds or URLs for real estate listings on my site that simply use "Index", Follow" without using Noodp and Noydir. Should the listing pages use these Noodp and Noydr also? All major landing pages use Index, Follow, Noodp, Noydir. Is this the best setting in terms of ranking and SEO. Thanks, Alan

GoogleBot Mobile & Depagination
I am building a new site for a client and we're discussing their inventory section. What I would like to accomplish is have all their products load on scroll (or swipe on mobile). I have seen suggestions to load all content in the background at once, and show it as they swipe, lazy loading the product images. This will work fine for the user, but what about how GoogleBot mobile crawls the page? Will it simulate swiping? Will it load every product at once, killing page load times b/c of all of the images it must load at once? What are considered SEO best practices when loading inventory using this technique. I worry about this b/c it's possible for 2,000+ results to be returned, and I don't want GoogleBot to try and load all those results at once (with their product thumbnail images). And I know you will say to break those products up into categories, etc. But I want the "swipe for more" experience. 99.9% of our users will click a category or filter the results, but if someone wants to swipe through all 2,000 items on the main inventory landing page, they can. I would rather have this option than "Page 1 of 350". I like option #4 in this question, but not sure how Google will handle it. http://ux.stackexchange.com/questions/7268/iphone-mobile-web-pagination-vs-load-more-vs-scrolling?rq=1 I asked Matt Cutts to answer this, if you want to upvote this question. 🙂

Ecommerce Duplicate Product Descriptions across 3 websites
Hi, We are an e commerce company that has our own domain but also sell the same products on eBay and Amazon. What is the feeling on the same exact descriptions being used on different platforms? Do they count as duplicate content? Will our domain be punished/penalised as our domain does not have as much authority as EBay or Amazon? We have over 5,000 products with our own hand written product descriptions. We want our website to be the main place/ have priority over the above market places. What's the best suggestion/solution? thanks,

Google changing the meta title for the homepage causing branding issues
A client of mine." Ross X Bute" current meta title is "Luxury designer clothing | Womens designer clothing" for the homepage. If i search for luxury designer clothing it will show the full meta title for the homepage. however if i search for the brand name.... "Ross & Bute" will show instead of the meta title. Whats the problem? Well my client a few month ago has decided to re brand the business to have a "X" to show instead of the "And". The rest of the site is branded with an "X" rather than "And" The URL www.rossandbute.com, so you can understand where google is getting this assumption from. Is there anyway to change this so it reads the the meta title in the SERPs? Thanks
