Issue with Site Map - how critical would you rank this in terms of needing a fix?
-
A problem has been introduced onto our sitemap whereby previously excluded URLs are no longer being correctly excluded. These are returning a HTTP 400 Bad Request server response, although do correctly redirect to users.
We have around 2300 pages of content, and around 600-800 of these previously excluded URLs,
An example would be http://www.naturalworldsafaris.com/destinations/africa-and-the-indian-ocean/botswana/suggested-holidays/botswana-classic-camping-safari/Dates and prices.aspx (the page does correctly redirect to users).
The site is currently being rebuilt and only has a life span of a few months. The cost our current developers have given us for resolving this is quite high with this in mind. I was just wondering:
-
How much of a critical issue would you view this?
-
Would it be sufficient (bearing in mind this is an interim measure) to change these pages so that they had a canonical or a redirect - they would however remain on the sitemap.
Thanks

Agree with Martijn. Technically, Google does not want any pages in the sitemap that 4xx or 3xx or have any other result than a 200.
I would say this, if your site is being rebuilt, having a sitemap that is accurate and that updates when you update the site is a basic requirement. The fact that there is a high cost for fixing this issue is baloney. It sounds like the devs did not build the site correctly the first time if they do not have a way to update the sitemap automatically.
You could generate the sitemap yourself
You can use tools like
http://tools.seochat.com/tools/online-crawl-google-sitemap-generator/
Or read tutorials on how to use Screaming Frog to create a sitemap
http://www.hmtweb.com/marketing-blog/dirty-sitemaps-how-to-download-crawl/
Frankly, the annual cost of Screaming Frog (about $150 a year) gets you so much more than just sitemaps. Buy Screaming Frog, have it generate your sitemap and ask the devs to upload it. If you have a site with several thousand pages, just running Screaming Frog monthly would help you find issues on your site that is well worth the cost. Search "Screaming Frog" here in the forums and you can see that this is one of the "swiss army knives" of technical SEO.

- It's not a perfect solution and if you can make the costs than I would always do it, but honestly I can't say this is very critical right now to fix. Google and other search engines want you to have a very high quality sitemap so that all pages in there will exist and work for them as well as for users but if a certain percentage of them won't work then it won't get you massively in trouble I'd say.
- I'm not really sure about this option as it doesn't sound like an actual fix at all so for now I would say don't do it.

Breadcrumbs markup need to be fixed
Hi there, Google is up to mass spamming, the latest one refers o an Enhancements > Breadcrukbs report, the message is: "...Google systems show that your site is affected by 24 instances of Breadcrumbs markup issues. This means that your Breadcrumbs pages might not appear as rich results in Google Search. Search Console has created a new report just for this rich result type..." I've used their Structured Data Testing Tool, no errors were highlighted. Can anyone fathom out what they're referring to, please?

Tidied up site by getting rid of bad pages and now rankings tanked. - Please help
Hello Mozzers. We historically had Location specific landing pages on our eCommerce site. examples - site.co.ukj/cleaning-enquipment-london site.co.ukj/cleaning-enquipment-Manchester These all had unique content(600 words approx) and ranked in top 10 for many cities. I understand these would have been classed as doorway pages so we got rid of them (301'd back to the category pages) and now our rankings for these terms have tanked. We also have specific branch pages but we have kept these like many other companies with multiple branches do. It feels like by doing a good thing and tidying up everything , we are actually making our site worse. Everything else seems to be in place. Loads of new regular content , clean profile , mobile friendly, lots of citations etc etc. Any idea what could be going on here. Here's a link in our site - http://goo.gl/0yjSd8 thanks Pete

New site. How important is traffic for a new site? And what about domain age?
Hi guys. I've been building a new site because i've seen a real SEO opportunity out there. I'm a mixing professional by trade and so I wanted to take advantage of SEO to help gain more work. Here's the site: www.signalchainstudios.co.uk I'm curious about domain age. This site fairly well optimised for my keywords, and my site got pretty good content on it (i think so anyway). But it's no where to be seen on the SERP's (link at all). Is this just a domain age issue? I'd have though it might be in the top 50 because my site's services are not hard to rank for at all! Also what about traffic? Does Google want to see an 'active' site before it considers 'promoting' it up the ranks? Or are back links and good content the main factor in the equation? Thanks in advance. I love this community to bits 🙂 Isaac.

The main domain is: http://www.eumom.ie/ And these would be some of the core pages: http://www.eumom.ie/pregnancy/ http://www.eumom.ie/getting-pregnant/ Any help from the Moz community is much appreciated!

Rankings dropped - Why?
At the end of November a client site dropped significantly in the rankings. The drop effected almost all the keyphrases we monitor. Historically the homepage has always ranked higher than the sub-pages - however now it seems Google is no longer ranking the home page, and instead ranking the sub-pages, just far far lower down. Any ideas what could cause this?

Site dropped rankings when changing host from US to Spain
My site was ranked very well in the UK & US for multiple keywords but we changed hosting from the US to Spain and since then the rankings in the US & UK have dropped between 5 to 35 positions on all keywords and are showing no signs of returning 3 weeks later. What can be causing this? The site was down for about 3 to 5 hours a few days before we transferred hosting (this is why we changed hosting due to the previous hosting being down too often). It does seem as though the new location of the hosting server seems to be affecting rankings but I need confirmation on this or any other ideas why the rankings may have dropped. Thanks in advance

Some viagra spammer somehow fooled Google into thinking the title and description metatags of a site pointing to me are about viagra. How did they do that? How do I fix this?
In performing a link: to my site, I found this: Video Of People Using Viagra - Online Drug Store, Guaranteed Shipping <cite>www.planetherbs.com/affiliate-program.html</cite> - Cached -Block all www.planetherbs.com results1 day ago – Video Of People Using Viagra. Online Drug Store, Guaranteed Shipping. Check Order Status. Natural and healthy products! If you go to that url, you will see it's just an affiliate program page. Some viagra spammer somehow changed the title and description metatags that google sees (not actually) and links from what appears to be spammy pages are pointing to me. I don't want to get dinged for this. How do I fix these for myself and planetherbs.com? And how did the spammer do this???
