Odd crawl test issues
-
Hi all, first post, be gentle...
Just signed up for moz with the hope that it, and the learning will help me improve my web traffic. Have managed to get a bit of woe already with one of the sites we have added to the tool. I cannot get the crawl test to do any actual crawling. Ive tried to add the domain three times now but the initial of a few pages (the auto one when you add a domain to pro) will not work for me.
Instead of getting a list of problems with the site, i have a list of 18 pages where it says 'Error Code 902: Network Errors Prevented Crawler from Contacting Server'. Being a little puzzled by this, i checked the site myself...no problems. I asked several people in different locations (and countries) to have a go, and no problems for them either. I ran the same site through Raven Tool site auditor and got some results. it crawled a few thousand pages. I ran the site through screaming frog as google bot user agent, and again no issues. I just tried the fetch as Gbot in WMT and all was fine there.
I'm very puzzled then as to why moz is having issues with the site but everyone is happy with it. I know the homepage takes 7 seconds to load - caching is off at the moment while we tweak the design - but all the other pages (according to SF) take average of 0.72 seconds to load.
The site is a magento one so we have a lengthy robots.txt but that is not causing problems for any of the other services. The robots txt is below.

Too many products on the site at the moment (250k plus) which manufacturer default descriptions so we have blocked them and are working on getting the category pages and guides listed. In time we will rewrite the most popular products and unblock them as we go
Many thanks

Thanks for the hints re the robots, will tidy that up.

Network errors can be somewhere between us and your site and not necessarily directly with your server itself. The best bet would be to check with your ISP for any connectivity issues to your server. Since your issues are only the first time they are reported, the next crawl may be more successful.
One thing though you will want to keep your user-agent directives in a single block of code without spaces.

Many thanks for the reply. The server we use is a dedicated server which we set up ourselves inc OS and control panel. Just seems very odd that every other tool is working fine etc but moz won't. I cannot see how it would need anything special from, say, Raven's site crawler.
I will check out those other threads though to see if i missed anything, thanks for the links.
Just checked port 80 using http:// www.yougetsignal. com/tools/open-ports/ (not sure if links allowed) and no problems there.

Moz is only crawling 2 pages
Hi, I found a similar thread, but it did not provide a clear-cut answer. We have had this campaign running for over a year, and we are always adding content to the website, but Moz is only ever able to crawl 2 pages, Screaming Frog only picks up 12, but I know there is a lot more than that. None of our pages are set to no-index, so I do not know what is causing this. Welcoming any ideas/solutions. Thanks

Moz Top Pages and Tool Bar Not Crawling Internal Pages and Links
Hello, We’re having two issues with our Moz tools and we’re not sure what’s causing them and whether they are related. The Moz Bar isn’t highlighting some of our internal links (including navigation links). The Top Pages Report in Open Site Explorer is only picking up the homepage and a couple error pages (none of the internal pages). The full Crawl Report is picking up everything though. Could a potential cause of both these issues be the Title attribute in some our links? – We use <a <="" span="">title="Example" href="link"></a> <a <="" span="">Or is this most likely from something else blocking the crawler from accessing our links/pages? Google Search Console does seem to be picking up the links in the navigation and everything is indexed/rendered correctly so we also didn’t know if this is something that could be issue. Any insight or help would be appreciated. Please let us know if there are any details we could provide that might help. Looking forward to hearing from all of you! Thank you in advance. Best,</a>

How does a non-traditional TLD impact Moz's crawl test?
I have a client who moved from a .com to .academy domain 6 months ago, and their current crawl tests are coming back with a universal page authority of 1, along with 0 indexed backlinks. The previous version of the site had an average page authority of 35-40, the site architecture and content are nearly identical, and there are no other errors or red flags in the crawl report that would hold back their organic rankings. In fact, looking at the site's analytics account, I can see dozens of sites that provide current and properly functioning backlinks, non of which are listed on the crawl test. So the question is - is Moz currently unable to properly crawl a .academy (or any other non-traditional TLD) site, or is there some deeper issue with the site's SEO that I'm not seeing? Thanks!

How much time should I wait between Crawl Tests?
Hello! I ask because it has happened before (and again this morning) that after doing a crawl test and repairing my site per the errors found in Moz's crawl test it still finds the same error. Even though I fixed them. Typically I do a re-crawl 6 hours after or the next day and I find the same errors. I know they are fixed because a couple of days go by and finally Moz gets it right. I had understood that the crawl test was an "on-demand" crawl of sorts, granted with limit of 2 a day. But it seems that if you re-crawl your site within a day the same results yield? It's frustrating. Is this correct? Thank you!

Issues with on-page report
My on page reports are really bad (F´s all over the place). When I go to a specific page to check why, it seems that Moz is not properly tracking some of the key metrics. For example for the following page (https://www.iguanafix.com.ar/servicios/pisos/palermo?loc=AR.CF.CF.PA) and keyword "pisos palermo" it is tracking that the keyword is not in the title (which it is), the keyword is not in the URL (which clearly is), not in H1, again it is, etc. I guess this is what is affecting my ranking and thus preventing me from defining a strategy to improve my SEO. Any ideas much appreciated. Thanks

Weird back link showed in moz crawl
Some time ago somebody from this site: http://dianibeach.com created a weird link to our site which had on the end db. Later we have realized that the link was coming from every footer on each page. I believe that the back links from footer does not have realy value and even the more of them the less value. We have asked the guy to remove that links as I thought it might harm our site more then help. Now I I was very surprised to find this link in moz crawl error as second top page on our site in current index??? Can somebody explain how is this possible?? The most ridiculous thing is that when I click on that link it realy opens our site! How is that possible, what is it? This is the link: http://villasdiani.com/?db Thank you very much for any help with this

Confusing Moz Crawl?
Hi there, I am not sure if I am missing on something but the moz crawls are rather confusing. After singing in I have received 11 emails with crawls and today I have received again new, When I go to check there to the dashboard it shows 26 pages with issues. When I scroll down I see the pages with issue. Then when I click on the first page listed, to view the issues it says this: Rel Canonical
Moz Bar | | Rebeca1
Using rel=canonical suggests to search engines which URL should be seen as canonical. For this site: http://villasdiani.com/ but we have sorted out the canonical issues a long time ago. Is this a wrong information or is it really true that we do not specify the canonical for our site? Then the second page with issue is there listed http://villasdiani.com/beach-villas/ and it says: Duplicate Page Title
You should use unique titles for your different pages to ensure that they describe each page uniquely and don't compete with each other for keyword relevance. But it does not point out which page is duplicate with this one! I do not have any other page named the same way. It also says in Issues overview 26pages with issues, but it shows on the bottom only 5 under and when I click on view more it brings me to high priority issues where is 0. The most is freaking me out this report: When I click on links, there are listed on the bottom the pages with highest authority among which I found this http://villasdiani.com/db I have never created this kind of page! Funny enough when I click on it it really open that page! How this can be??? In issues overview it also shows on the bottom, right corner 11 page with duplicate content but when I click on it to review it it brings me to high priority issues windows where is not displayed anything Can somebody advice me regarding of this. I have sign up here to learn and sort out the problems with the site but so far I am only getting more confused here. Thank you very much for looking into this.0
