Web Stie STUCK on page 2 for 2years
-
Our website is a dating site for adults (not porn) (http://www.swingersocial.com) It’s been STUCK in the middle of page 2 for 1 ½ years. Moving up or down 2 ranking, that’s it. The way we determine our location is by entering the most common phrases used by people who search for our type of site. We surveyed 50+ people and the phrases they most frequently entered when using Google were “swingers websites” “swingers sites” and “free swingers sites”. In addition to our competitors ranking above us, they show “movement” in their rankings up & or down. Some even dropped to page 2 but they recovered – we are not seeing the same movement or recovery.
Pages crawled on have remained virtually unchanged for months. The last 1 ½ years we have hired SEO companies, and as a result a great deal of effort has been put into the site. We are not naïve and realize some were better than others. We’ve invested a great deal of effort into content, key words, modifying tags, and throughout all of this we’ve seen no change. We had a detailed audit suggesting improvements (no surprise), the report overall was positive stating “There are a few things to do to optimize the site but looking at the keywords, SwingerSocial.com should be able to rank high.”
We also implemented a blog area with over 70 blog posts. Our competitors on the other hand have only two blog posts and are continually ranking higher than us. Additionally, our competitors do not have sites on Pinterest, G+, FB, or Twitter – we have a presence on some of these.
I do know that the number and quality of links are terrible. I’m looking for a partner to help us make strategic changes to the site that will allow us to rank higher.

Definitely a frustrating problem!
After taking a look at your site, it might actually be overly optimized for the term "swinger." Specifically, it shows up on your homepage (in the various sections) in the text 122 times. This is an older, but still good WBF from Cyrus talking about over optimization and how it can hurt you.
A quick look at your backlink profile for your homepage shows not very links that are followed and aren't on low-quality and potentially spammy directories, as you mentioned. Building quality links back to your site will definitely help. Getting more content built will definitely let you build links a lot better.
When it comes to content and social media in the adult space, PornHub is really leading the innovation. They wrote a great article about what they do for our blog. Definitely when it comes to content, part of the problem with your site is that everyone is behind a log-in and thus, behind closed doors for Googlebot. I haven't seen anyone in the swinger space really own content and social; and that could definitely set your company apart.
Hope that gives you somewhere to start!

How can I deal with tag page duplicate issues
The Moz crawler reported some dupliated issues. Many of them have to do with tags.

Each tag has a link, and as some articles are under several tags, these come up as duplicate content. I read Dr Peter's piece on Canonical stuff, but it's not clear to me if any of these are the solution. Perhaps the solution lies somewhere else? Maybe I need to block the robots from these urls (But that seems counter-SEO-productive) Thanks

How do I find out which pages are being indexed on my site and which are not?
Hi, I doing my first technical audit on my site. I am learning how to do an audit as i go and am a lost. I know some page won't be indexed but how do I: 1. Check the site for all pages, both indexed and not indexed 2. Run a report to show indexed pages only (i am presuming i can do this via screaming Frog or webmaster tool) 3. I can do a comparison between the two list and work out which pages are not being indexed. I'll then need to figure out way. I'll cross this bridge once i get to it Thanks Ben

Duplicate Page Title - although there are differences
Hello, I get duplicate page titles errors on pages in which there are little differences. For example: C++ Online Test for Seniors C# Online Test for Seniors I assume that from some reason the ++ and the # are removed when SEOMoz crawler checks for duplicate page titles. As you may know C# and C++ means two different programming languages. Should I do something about it or is it a bug in the crawler?

Pages Crawled: 1 Why?
I have some campaigns which have only 1 page crawled, while some other campaigns, having completely similar URL (subdomain) and number of keywords and pages, have all pages crawled... Why is that so? It has been also a while I waited and so far no change...

Crawl Rate for Lower Page Authority Websites
Hi,At thumbtack.com we get tons of links from low (or no) page authority websites, and I'm wondering what the crawl rate of those links looks like. I know Google pulls in the web at an astonishing rate, but I'd imagine they aren't re-crawling lower PA very frequently. Are they discovering these links a week after they're posted? A month? More? I spent a while looking around for histograms of actual crawl rates and found surprisingly little. I'd love to see average crawl rate by Domain or Page Authority if that exists anywhere.

Thanks!-MichaelP.S. Here are some random examples of the types of pages with inbound links I'm talking about. Normally we wouldn't spend too much time thinking about these, but there's just so many of them we can't ignore it!- http://www.majestic-cleaners.webs.com/- http://domchieraphotography.blogspot.com/- http://charlottepiano.musicteachershelper.com/- http://pin-upgirlphotography.vpweb.com/default.html- http://jfaithful.weebly.com/0 -
