Links on the same keyword
-
When is linking from one particular keyword to much. At what point could link building from one keyword be considered spam and potentially delist a site ?
Is it possible for a site to be delisted for having to many links from the same keyword ?
Heard linking from the website name is more important following recent changes. I try and link from a selection of 3 to 4 keywords.
Thanks for your help

I wouldn't go so far as to call the extra links spam. They are not helpful to SEO. They just add extra links to your page.
If you sincerely believe they are helpful for users, then leave them. Otherwise, I would recommend removing them.
-
so would the extra two links potentially be classed as spam ?
-
No, as Ryan initially said, Google will only count the first anchor text to a page that it reads in the code of your page. If you link to that page from your main navigation their is a good chance Google will use that, however if you don't link to that page in your nav, then it would probably count the first link within your blog post/article.
This is old, but covers the basics:
http://www.seomoz.org/blog/results-of-google-experimentation-only-the-first-anchor-text-counts -
but marc the question is could you -
link these keywords from one blog post or article to that one page ? So these three keywords linked from one article.
What would you think about that ?

Anchor text using those variations makes perfect sense.
If you had a page targeting each of those terms I would doubt the quality and need for each of those pages from a user perspective + you would need a lot of link equity to push them all. Combining them makes for a more powerful kick a$$ page which has more anchor text diversity and looks more natural.

good tip on the company name I have made some adjustments on some incoming links.
One example I want to put to you guys -
I have a blog article and I link the words -
printer ink
ink cartridges
and printer ink cartridges to the same page. Is this advised or would you not do more than one link to the same page. I welcome your opinions.
Thanks

Solid advice from Ryan from an on-site (internal linking) perspective.
In terms of off-site (link building) practices this is not a simple question and probably differs per industry and SERP. You should probably go off and do some competitor analysis. View the top 10 results for the keyword you are concerned about and run each result through OSE. Look through the 'anchor text distribution' tab for each result and see how often they use that particular anchor text, how much branded anchor text they use and other keyword variations. This should give you a good idea as to what your link landscape looks like in terms of anchor text usage.
A few things I would think about:
- You already mention using 'branded' anchor text - Do this and do it often. Even mix it with your target keyword anchor text i.e. Keyword + by Brand Name or Keyword + from Brand Name. But definitely be sure to get lots of links with just your brand name or url.
- In my opinion, if you view the anchor text distribution tab in OSE for your site and Branded Anchor Text tops the list then you are in a safe postion. If you open that tab up and all you see is a list of exact match anchor text for money keyterms then you are probably at risk. Be aware that bigger more established brands can get away with more.
Is it possible for a site to be delisted for having to many links from the same keyword ?
Yes, you can definitely receive a penalty or filter via over-opitmization of anchor text and this is something very easy for search engines to spot. So be sure to vary your anchor text and keep it looking natural. -
I would only provide one link on a given keyword per page. SEs will only evaluate the first link to a given URL on a page, and a selected keyword should always be linking to the same URL throughout your site.
So the specific answer I would offer is once per page that the keyword appears on. For example most sites have a "Home" link in their navigation bar. That link will appear on every page of their site and it works fine.
You can alter the keyword or phrase and provide links to other pages. You can send "cars" to one URL, sports cars to another and luxury cars to a third URL and so forth without any concern. You don't want your page to look like a collection of links. As long as you do it in a quality manner you should be fine.

Houzz Comment Links
A company I am working with has been posting pictures and links to their website in the comments section of Houzz articles. I notice many companies have been doing this in general. While it generates decent amounts of traffic, I am wondering if google sees 30 links coming from article comments that it will deem that as spam? My gut tells me to send these comment links to the Houzz member profile, then direct them to your own website. Thoughts? ***Anyone in home design, decor, etc. should really get involved there. Fantastic source of business for professional in that field.

Old links
I am looking to remove some old directory links that now look spammy. Some years ago the site was redesigned. The links are all to the old pages url, which is 301 redirected to the new. If we remove the 301 and let the page 404, will that suffice in Googles eyes?

Too Many Links???
SEOMOZ is telling me I have more than 100 links on quite a few of my pages, and I cant seem to find out what links they are finding. Like for instance on this page http://standupguys.biz/what-we-haul/commercial-junk-removal-services/computer-removal-recycling/ It is telling me that I have 117 hyper links (which is WAY too high). Can anyone explain to me where these are coming from, and how I can avoid this?? Please and thank you.

Link Directories
Hi there, We're very shortly launching a new website so as part of our link strategy we will be linking to directories found with the Link Acquisition Assistant for various keyword searches. I was wondering at what point is it not worthwhile submitting to these directories with regards PA and DA? For example if a directory has a domain authority of 69 but the page authority for the keyword in question is only 1, would it be a waste of time? Cheers

Link Ratio
Does Google (or other search engines) penalize websites if they have a too many inbound links from a single domain? (Say for instance, I have 500 inbound links, and 400 of them are from one root domain.)
