Does shared content affect rankings?
-
I've noticed that when logged into Google, content shared by people within my social graph is being identified by a "(name of person) shared this". And, content shared by people not within my social graph (but people who have a Google+ account) is being identified with their picture.
My questions are:
-
Is this "(name of person) shared this" content showing on first page of results because they're in my social graph. Or would this content have been on 1st page regardless of whether it had been shared?
-
Why is google identifying who is sharing content when they're not in my social graph?
Thank you!

The latest statement I heard from Google was the +1 data is being collect but is NOT being used to alter search results. They also made it clear that this data could be used in the future for that purpose.
Why is google identifying who is sharing content when they're not in my social graph?
There is a process from Google called Authorship where any content created by a known author can be identified with their picture. For example, do a search for Matt Cutts in Google and you will find the results which are authored by him recently from his blog show his picture. It is possible for him to author content elsewhere and it may or may not be identified with his picture depending on whether the publishing site used the proper tags.
I believe the pictures you are seeing are from Author identification, not from the Google +1 process. This is the current Google standard now.

Social media signals and their roles in Google rankings
Hello, I keep on hearing that social media signals have a role in the way Google ranks pages and sites, but for now, I haven't seen any hard evidence of that. Like any other company, we have pages on facebook, linkedin, google plus and twitter, to which we post daily. No, there are no clients coming in from social media, so I was wondering if it's worth investing time in adding every day updates, unless those count in ranking on Google. What do you think, is there a link between social media and Google rankings, and how much does this weight in ranking my sites? Thank you

What's your preference - regurgitate content on social media or just post it the once?
Hi All, Not been on the forums for a while and this isn't really an SEO question. How do you feel about Twitter feeds that constantly regurgitate the same content. It's pretty much industry standard on most pages but if the content is yours, no affiliates or other people are involved - is it really necessary to plug the same 500 word blog post over and over? Personally, I don't like it. I think it looks spammy and unprofessional and in all honesty, I unfollow pages regularly because of it.. What do you guys think? Am I squandering content by not regurgitating? Happy Monday all - Jamie

Social widgets, iFrames, Duplicate content and more...
Hi guys, I am thinking about embedding a widget on my website that pulls social content from a number of networks. The script (javascript) creates and iFrame and serves up social content which is embedded in an external page ie: Tweet --> embedded on widget-domain.com/page.html --> embedded on my-domain.com via an iFrame. Questions: 1. Will this carry any SEO benefit? Will Google see this as "fresh + frequent" content?

2. Will this carry any SEO penalties? Will Google see this as duplicate content? I hope thats enough info to get some feedback - let me know if I can provide any more.0 -

How can i make our social network site rank higher?
Our site is currently not in the first 3 pages of Google. it is a social networking site that requires users to login/ register. Much of the content is therefore user generated and is as diverse as the users themselves. The problem is that SEOmoz crawler is not even picking up the keywords i inserted into the site. Does this mean that Google is not even picking them up as well? Our site is www.yookos.com

Is duplicate content in social media ok?
We use Twitter, Facebook, a blog, and Google +. Currently we create unique content for each. These platforms have the ability to "cross-post" (Where what you put on your facebook or blog gets tweeted, for example). Is it important to keep this content unique? Or can we duplicate across these platforms?

Yet another Google Plus One question: Does it affect ranking for people that you are NOT connected to?
Title pretty much explains it all. If lots of people plus one (the new verb of 2011?) a site, is that site deemed 'popular' and therefore will appear higher up the SERPS generally? Or does it only affect those with whom you are linked via Twitter/Facebook/Google+? Or is it too early to tell yet?
